You cannot rest, there are enemies nearby

Post » Thu Jun 16, 2011 1:45 pm

One thing I would like them to get rid of in Skyrim were the messages telling you that you cannot rest or wait in an area due to enemies being nearby. I want to rest or wait and if there are enemies get woken up by them like what happened in Morrowind on occasion. I loved that. If I want to try to rest or wait in an area with monsters then let me :P

a dynamic if you will, resting should be made you can see everything in realtime while you sit down in some type of meditating position. If an enemy approaches it should stop speed-realtiming and go into slowmotion for 3 seconds while dragonborn stands up and draws his/her sword.

If we're bringing realism into effect here... then a stealthy monster or bandit could easily slit your throat while you sleep and take your stuff, saving you the trouble of having to wake up and battle them entirely!! :celebration:

This annoyed me to no end. If I rest at the wrong time, then punish me for it. LET me be stupid. There are times that the enemy literally cannot attack me because they're stuck behind a locked door for example.

Between Oblivion and Morrowind, I don't think Bethesda have quite got resting right. In both games it has been too easy. You could rest/wait anywhere to regain full health/magicka. Morrowind made this a little tougher by allowing enemies to wake you up. But it was never really all that dangerous.

If I recall correctly, we've heard that the player will be able to carry around a bedroll to sleep in the wilderness. I hope what this also means is that only sleeping will regain health; just waiting won't do anything.

(This wasn't really a good option in Oblivion, because places to sleep in the wilderness were relatively scarce. Some people no doubt would have liked that extra challenge; but I think also a lot of people would have found it a little too tedious.)

If Todd really meant that they like ? they will do this. It follows the business strategies of ?

Funny thing is.. I just downloaded Daggerfall for free off of the elder scrolls website, followed the instructions via the PDF to the letter and I am playing Daggerfall for the first time. Resting is even more important in that game than any other elder scrolls game I have ever played because if you lose health.. your dead, if you lose fatigue.. also dead. You don't regain them at least early on unless you REST. They stick you in a dungeon to begin with and if you even hear monsters or enemies you cannot rest meaning you either have to back track or just try to pound the snot out of the monsters in the next room before they pound you and then rest afterwards. So hope there are no skeletons lol. But I do remember this sort of thing carrying out into other games and I just want to be able to rest where I want.. Let me take the risk ya know? Glad you guys agree. I am not sure that instant coup de grace is a good idea while sleeping but at the very least waking up to them either attacking you or poking you with a stick should suffice. I can see a Goblin poking you with a stick first to see if you are dead.. they aren't the most intelligent creatures LOL. I think that getting a few hits in before you are able to scramble to your feet is good enough as an advantage for catching you asleep.

Yep. Another of the things (like killing people and taking their houses, which I just commented on on another thread) where the game shouldn't step in and tell you what you can and cannot do. You should be perfectly free to do it if you choose. And you should suffer whatever consequences doing it might bring about.

That sounds great! The computer could do a calculation based on your stealth skill, their stealth skill, your player health and their damage, see if they would die or not, and then interrupt your sleep to show you an NPC doing a finishing move on YOU! XD

If that was the case I wouldn't mind a survival skill actually.. I don't think that your stealth should dictate sleeping in a dungeon or around enemies since stealth to me seems more like an active ability. Survival knowledge like covering yourself with leaves to hide better and/or to avoid rain for example makes more sense. Of course they won't make it so you have to cover yourself with sticks, leaves and bushes but you get my drift. I would welcome a survival skill especially since they are upping the hunting in Skyrim

I think it would be great to be able to rest wherever, but have the possibility of being woken up by a pick pocket, or an assassin. If you can make camp, you should jolt awake in the middle of the night and realise your fire is out. You go to rekindle it, when you realise that everything is too quiet. You barely have time to grab a dagger before a group of raiders that have surrounded your camp spring their trap. *shivers

You know what would be really great? removing the 3 seconds of vulnerability you have when getting up from sitting down or from sleeping. Maybe make it so if you're in battle, the character jumps out, weapon drawn

Isn't covering yourself with leaves camouflaging for yourself?

Isn't camouflaging yourself stealthy?

It pretty much perfectly fits into the sneak/stealth skill, imo.

LOL I suppose that if it is staring at you and not eating your flesh when you wake up it's probably tameable. That being said.. Would you guys welcome taming monsters as pets? I wouldn't mind a little mudcrab pet. If not I hope someone mods it LOL. So long as it's not like they help you in battle... I don't want it to be like pokemon.
