If you could bring back one feature from a previous game

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:30 am

now that youve gotten that rant off your chest how about adding a positive comment? or did you never learn if you dont have something positive to say then shut the hell up. :obliviongate:

I never heard it said that way but I'm positive I don't live in the 'Good Old Days' like some of the previous posters do.

That being said I feel that Zeni/gamesas can do a better job on TESv. All they need do is learn from their mistakes, build from their successes, and put forward their best effort that can possibly do and than push for more.

Also I would like to point out the fact that none of ya'll here are even remotely responcible for the development for the tes series at any lvl. There could be valid reasons why they cut out certain aspects of previous games, like differences in the physics engines. Where as other changes are simply the result of having a different vissionary team in charge.

And again no positive imput back to oblivion :obliviongate: this is a thread of stuff we would like to see back, i for one dont think bethesda will ever even look at these but idc its a fun way to build up hype for the next game and remember past greatness. and you saying they need to build from their successes, thats what this thread is about, what people think were past successes they should keep or add again :P

Arena: An epic adventure that spans across all of Tamriel with an journey through out every providence.

Daggerfall: I'm not going to waste my time and talk about the gameplay mechanics I want back, since most of which have been said before. Instead, I'll just say talk about the retro ambience of Daggerfall that could be implemented into newer Elderscrolls games and make us feel nostalgic.
<>The music!
<>The medieval spirit (After Daggerfall, the elderscrolls games felt a lot less like a medieval fantasy and more like a cookie cutter medieval flavored fantasy.)
<>Seasons and festivals
<>Thriving political affairs and magical
<>A complex weave of arcane plots, with evil wizards that terrorize local villages and outskirts of cities with powerful sorceries, witch covens, ect... (All I mean by this is that I think wizards shouldn't be so mundane as they were portrayed in Morrowind and Oblivion.)
<>Cities that close their gates on you at night. As annoying as it was, it did offer an immersive experience if you couldn't clime or had no levitation. Just sort of sit there and shiver all night while being harassed by monsters and animals every time you try to sleep, which really makes you not take the comfort of the city for granted.

Morrowind: The sense of adventure was great in morrowind. And you were actually rewarded by walking off the beaten path. The monsters were imaginative and the concepts were pretty high.

Oblivion: I personally loved the combat, stealth, and magic in this game. It was the first game that I actually had fun playing a full mage character. And of course I love stealth/combat characters. Oblivion just made the experience all the more satisfying.

I might have missed the point of the OP, but the point I'm trying to make is that the devs' job is a lot more difficult than deciding 'I want to take a little of this from here, a bot of that from there, slap it together' and oh hey presto new game....
But, something possitive... hmmm. Oh I know! Zeni/Betsoft's dedication in building something from scratch that's more ground breaking and compelling. That's something from the development of the previous games I'd like to be brought to TESv.

1.) missing due to arbritrary dice rolls, rather actual skill.
2.) static lvl enemies that I can just power lvl past so they are not actually a challenge to me.
3.) Getting lost in the wilderness because I don't have a map.
4.) Getting lost in the wilderness because I don't have a compass.
5.) Pointlessly big/repeitive/generic dungeons.
6.) Pointlessly vindictive npcs that none the less does business with me.
7.) Pointlessly vindictive npcs that treat me like scum and still expect me to do things for them.
8.) Living in a world that's in shades of grey and brown.
9.) Having a clunkig sneak/magic/combat system...
ohhh, wait a moment... the question was 'What do you want to return from past games'... nvm

If you didn't like the past Elderscrolls games, why on Earth would you purchase a game called "The Elder Scrolls 4?"

And, if you think shades of grey and vindictive bosses who treat you like scum are a dead fad from "the good 'ol days," maybe you should step outside your front door and look around.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Ortis... I haven't eaten in so long.

Yeah, but on a more serious note I'd like to see the ability to join vampire factions.

Hircine = Republican
x_dearh = Democrat

I agree with Hircine. Because I'm a libertarian!

If you want to kill Martin and ruin the main quest then fine, it will be your own fualt.
Ah how I love Social Darwinism.

x_death- go play fable, you seem to like restriction

What the heck. I have an opinion, so what? I haven't attacked Hircine on his opinion.
And you're generalizing about politics, but don't get me started there.

Edit: BTW I'm from Canada and we don't have Republicans or Democrats :P
Edit: I've had a change of heart and agree with Hircine on these things now, there are also a few things in Fable that would make a good addition to Elder Scrolls. Auto Targeting for example.

I don't want to get too deep into politics.

But generally, in America, there are the democrats, there are the republicans, and there are the people with minds of their own who laugh at the republicans and democrats. :flamethrower:

It can be best compared to old Byzantine, where hordes of mindless peasants would just vote for whichever party they root for in the hippodrome. Politics in America have become a sort of battle between home teams, in which people just root for the party they grew up with, without understanding or caring about any of the issues of the election.

So people who grew up in republican towns really hate democrats, and vice versa. Just like Red Sox fans really hate Yankees fans. Even though, when you break it down, they're all different flavors of the same type of idiot.

I don't believe we are supposed to discuss politics on these forums, just saying...

Anyway, I really like climbing, levitation, mounted combat, cut-throat politics, clothing that can be worn over other clothes and armour, medium armour, short blade, axe, spear, unarmoured (or dodge), more than ONE type of ranged weapon.

That's all I can think of for now, there's definitely going to be some major things that I missed.

The diversity the original lore presented us with regarding the previous ES installments. There...I think I just about covered all my bases. Champagne anyone? :celebration:

I liked climbing in daggerfall.

basically this. There's nothing like escaping a monster, by jumping off a fatal drop, and surviving by catching the wall on the other side.

Basically, republicans are conservatives, and democrats are liberals. You can read more about their specific views on their websites or on wikipedia.

Everything ingame having monetary value. it would've made looting with havoc physics in oblivion soo much more fun. There were so many items ingame that the developers spent quite a lot of time creating that I never even gave a second glance to once I learned they were worth nothing. There was literally no reason ever to pick up a pewter cup or a clay pot in the game.
