if you could change only one thing about Brink

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 5:54 am

I'd make it into a Third person shooter like APB.

I would not like that. My third person shooter for 2011 will be Dead Space 2. Brink has to fill my FPS hole. lulz

Bullets only have a noticible traavel time on longer shots, considering that most rounds these days are supersonic, which means that the bullet is going to reach the target before the sound of the gunshot even does. So in a game focusing on close combat, there would be little reason to include such a fractional difference in time.

Although as it seems most players are going to be playing lights with light rifles (probably silenced) looks like sub-sonic rounds are the order of the day.

And I am immensely disappointed at the above fact...I might just have to go heavy and kill them enough times to discourage everyone from being light operatives.

I think that the fad will die down pretty quickly, even if there remains a large number of operatives. When I first got TF2 I was really interested in trying spy, but I quickly found that I have no talent for it. I'll switch to it occasionally to go in, sap a turret, and backstab an engi, but that's about it for me. Had I not figured out that spy is not for me, I would still be looking to play Operative in Brink.

While for me, it's quite different. I started out TF2 wanting to be good at Soldier and Pyro primarily and, though I can play them decently, my best class is spy(which I play for my group's highlander team). I like flanking enemies, and I love the idea of using a light body class and light weapons to kill off enemies, so that's why I'm doing it.

I'm an alrounder can normally turn my hand to anything, although I prefer the 'supporting' classes.

I wouldn't know. That's a bit of a hard question for some people, because it really seems like it would be more appropreate to ask after it comes out.

I would however, delete the Anger from the game.
[/quote/]HELL NO the anger is awesome i cant wait to have some badass guy runing around looking like a vandel i would delete the wasted it looks [censored]

I find it funny that you think the Anger is cool.

Just try to run around as the Anger, because I'll keep my eye open if you come through my scope ;].

I love the TF2 spy for his cloaking-ability. I would always use the stealth-device to get behind enemy lines, then switch to a disguise and run back to the front with everyone else, but just slightly behind, so I could backstab one or two of them, before stealthing again. Good times.

Hopefully I can do similar stuff in BRINK soon. I'll just have to climb over to the other side, instead of turning invisible.

I think the self destruct ability the operative has will end up being hilarious. I'll have to record the soundclip from Predator where the alien blows himself up in a nuclear explosion. For the shiggles.

I now plan on replacing the official soundfile for the self destruct with that sound clip.

Hey, just a random question that's been concerning me, how is falling damage going to work in this game? I wouldn't be surprised if it's not been answered yet, but it seems a pretty major issue in a game like this one.

Umm...I really don't know there jak. I'd guess there is fall damage, but that's all it is. You've got me stumped.

a couple things that i would change would be more projectile based weapons, a shotgun for the lights, and i don't like how much the gun has been taking up the screen in some of the video's i've seen... for example, around 2:40 on the minds of brink video...

Well, people who practice parkour are able to fall from two stories or more with barely a scratch, so I would assume fall damage is related to body size, if there is any. A light player could just roll at the end of most jumps to dissipate the force, while a heavy would have a lot more momentum from sheer weight and less ability to roll.

I think I remember reading or seeing somewhere that a player could slide at the end of a fall in Brink to mitigate damage, so I'd say yes to the fall damage at this point. I think it was the SMART introductory video? Maybe not though...

You're correct. The only thing I'd change would be the flashing that occurs when your weapon has been Buffed, and instead have some kind of indication that you weapon is begin buffed, have a box in the upper right hand corner, almost like WoW. However it only appears when the rest of your HUD does, which if the devs said is true, will only appear when necessary. And if it happens to run out (I'm not sure if they have a duration timer) it will notify you by displaying the last 3 seconds of the buff. Really I just want away for the game to let you know your weapon is buffed without the flashiness.

Maybe a Light Shotgun? Un-required but would be appreciated.

Slightly longer Campaign? Un-required but would be appreciated.

Wait. The Operatives can self destruct?!?! If I understand this correctly, then noobs that can't actually play the game will be jumping from the rooftops and blowing themselves up on top of an enemy just to get a couple kills in?

I believe you only have the option of blowing yourself up when you are downed. So if someone lights you up and then comes in to finish you off with a melee, you can return the favor.

Okay, thanks. For a moment there... Then that's actually a nice little addition to the game. Kinda.

I think/hope there's some sort of timer for that too, so enemies have the opportunity to run away if need be.

I totally want dress as the psycho, run into the middle of a group of enemies shouting "More meat for me!", then self destruct! I love tanking and self destruct would go perfect with heavy and a minigun.

Just throwing in the Dystopia-Mod here: Cortex Bomb - makes you blow up when your HP fall under 25. This actually allows you to use Quacko2's tactic. ;)

You just need the Leg Boosters, the Cortex Bomb and an enemy willing to shoot you while in close proximity. :D
(However, if you get killed before you blow up, nothing happens. Which, again, is similar to BRINK. If you shoot a downed Operative, you don't have to get close so he couldn't kill you.)

Perhaps it's a fairly minuscule detail, but I would prefer the characters not have the elongated, awkward facial structure they currently sport. It reminds me too much of Time Splitters, and adds to the perception of Brink being a less serious, more comical FPS. Am I alone in this?
