If you could change something about Brink

Post » Sun May 08, 2011 3:09 am

Other than the release date, which I am glad they decided not to rush, the only thing that I don't really like is the small teams. i generally don't like games with fewer than 20 players on each team. But I also have to keep in mind how team-oriented this game is, and that adding so many players would very likely detract from the teamwork that the developers are striving for. I haven't played it yet, so this might not even be a factor.Whatever the case, I'm sure Brink is going to be amazing.

The only thing I am nervous about is that multiplayer on console will not be on dedicated servers.

My only gripe is the M4 in this game seems too big, they should make the barrel longer and the hand guards skinnier.

Plus with all the people in one game it would get pretty laggy and buggy do to the amount of stuff going on.
So 8v8 is a good choice.

Definitely have a point there... but isn't that a larger problem with consoles than pc/mac?

WAAAAAAAY TOO LONG TO READ!!!! I'll stick to answering the thread topic cuz I don't care about your personal life...

I would love to have an offline 4 player splitscreen mode where up to 4 players can go through a mission together.

I rarely ever lag in BC2 which has 24 players online, I use to never lag in MAG (until they started shutting down servers) which handles 256 players, even now the lag isn't really noticeable. I have lagged like crazy in games that are only 16 players.
With dedicated servers (not peer to peer) lag issues could be minimal or non-existent.

And games can hold large amounts of players and still be intensely focused on teamwork, the key is to not lump them all in together, separate them into intimate squads.

It is a larger problem on consoles. PC/MAC I'm not sure, seems like the player would be laggy in the game because he has a comp that can't keep up with the frame rate that the game is going at with everything going on.

Well then you probably have a good internet connection so you can handle the rate that everything is going at, so it does depend on the internet connection also.

8v8 is enough for this kind of gameplay. I've played W:ET on all kinds of servers (up to 32v32 on extra big maps).

8v8 was imho the most fun in public play. Not too crowded, not too easy to get to objectives. It resulted in the most balanced games as well.
Lower was mostly used for competitive, which works great as well with an organised team.
Higher was still fun, but really spammy and the more players there were, the higher the chances that one team got utterly destroyed. Completing objectives just by being lucky to sneak by was always a pain as well.

Doesn't that apply to any online multiplayer game?

Yes? Did I say something to make it seem like it wasn't?

No, but it seems kind of pointless to mention it if it applies to every online multiplayer game, no offense.

Well people have a good and bad connections, so that effects their gameplay.

Good connection = little to no lag
Bad connection = You will most likely get lag

yeah I generally do not lag very much, especially on a computer. But the developers (for once) are not focusing on individuals alone, but on the masses and the greatest good and most fun for the most players. I guess 8v8 is a more responsible decision...

Well, in my ideal scenario this would be the case as well. But, I'm pretty happy with the game how it is at this moment, so you won't hear me "complain" ^^

I'd move the release date closer.

Much more closer.

Realistically, nothing. Every single facet of the game looks pretty much perfect to me, and I'm not just being a really devoted fan here. I even like the rim lighting idea. Stealth be damned, I want my action fast and furious. :disguise:

I would add female characters as long as it didn't lessen the customization.

You don't think the extreme radioactive rim lightning will harm some enjoyment in the game? There is already a health bar for your enemies when you aim at them, if they glow too then they can't hide nor flank you, the same goes to you for them

The rim lighting fades as people get closer to you, with ranges varying from map to map. But by the time you are close enough where you are "flanking", chances are that you wont be glowing anymore. Besides of which, if i see or hear someone, i check to see what team they are on anyway; either by looking at them closely or checking the minimap. It might take away from the game, it might add to it. Until i play the game, i cant say for sure.

But until I play it I will assume that SD is doing their best to keep the game enjoyable. The beta testers have a better idea of the drawbacks than people watching a handful of gameplay videos and guessing from there. Giving the player more information is seldom game breaking.

I wish the light body type could hold bigger guns then smgs. I would think that they could carry a compact AR or a shotgun. Oh well, won't stop me from choosing a small body type.

by "compact AR" might you mean a carbine? like the CARB-9? and there's always the marksman's rifles.

The problem with carrying a shotgun would be that then SD would be promoting a TF2 Scout playstyle: just run-and-gun, and you'd still be pretty hard to stop, even though you cannot double-jump or run as fast as the Scout.
