If you could make one major change to Skyrim's development..

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:09 am

Design the game around top of the line pc tech, and scale it down for lowered pc/console users.

In this way we have a game that looks great now for those with the hardware, looks the same now for those without/consoles, and in 5 years when this tech is yesterdays news people will still be saying, "damn that's nice"

Edited out my rant.

I would like the developers to include several spare music areas so that it would be easy for us to use the builder to add custom music to existing cells or new cells created.

Add more open possibilities for modders, less hardcoded engine features and gameplay and sufficient fundamental basis of parameters and variables even if not all of them will be used by devs fully during development, so even if aspects of game will have flaws with such basis modding and improving will much more productive and take less time.

I would add the Strength Attribute in along side Health, Magicka, and Stamina at level up. The Strength Attribute would increase Encumberence rate and possibly do 1 more point of weapon damage per level.

Or I would add in Vampires and have them be not as ugly as they were in Oblivion. I would make them more demonic looking rather then scary/old.

Add in realistic weapon physics and the option to use an IMU (wiimote, kinect etc) to detect sword movement. We could then run around stabbing fools, deflecting arrows, spells etc.

This is why we are not seeing a massive leap in quality we have seen previously.

Actually that is more the fault of games being designed for hardware so old you can't even buy comparable PC parts to it today. But whatever.....

why do all pc gamers except Frozenaffairs tick me off oh right because of elitist posts like this^ not everyone has the money for a 900 dollar pc so they can play a game

Not all PC gamers have that sort of money either

Besides spears and crossbows I'd like quests with myriad paths and endings (because multiple paths and endings just isn't enough!)

/shrug Agreed, you should use that money to buy a sense of humor first.

The point still stands though, console gamers don't loose out either way. If they build a console game and (poorly) port it up to PC you still get the same game. If they build a good PC game and port it down to consoles, you still get the same game, but PC gamers get a better PC game. Is it the fact you just don't want PC gamers to get a good game?

In the end, doesn't matter one lick either way for Skyrim, already a done deal.

First off, we know for a fact that they develop for all systems side by side (as long as the dev kits are available). So they aren't porting anything in the traditional sense. A truly awful port is Assassin's Creed 2 for PC. They didn't even bother to change the aspect ratio, instead resorting to black bars at the top and bottom of 16:9 computer monitors. That was a port as it was clearly developed after the console version was finished.

Secondly, we still haven't seen any footage of the PC version, all we have to go on is Todd mentioning he's not really ready to talkabout the PC yet.

All I ask that that we wait to know the dog is sick before we shoot it in the head.

For the record, I play OB/MW on both PC and 360.

I won't be holding my breath, but I will keep the gun loaded. :teehee:

The fact that we don't have anything to go on for the PC version aside from vague assurances isn't exactly comforting. I give Beth games a lot more benefit of the doubt than I do any other developer but I'm not going to try and fool myself either. My expectations of the PC version will remain well below what I would consider "decent" till I am given ample proof otherwise. I just hope they live up to those particular low expectations.

I have the utmost confidence the rest will be terrific.

Haha, I'll be there with the shells.

From what I've seen recently, they're hesitant to release information on anything they're not 150 per cent certain about. My guess is that they're working on a PC UI and trying out several variations and will settle on the one they think works best. Whether that's the console version or not we'll have to wait and see.

I suspect my trust in Bethesda is much higher than the average forum user. Ultimately, as most people on these forums, we'll play it to death regardless of any pitfalls,

One major change? Develop Skyrim mainly with the PC in mind, and scale it down for the console.

I'll play it to death heavily mod'ed to correct the pitfalls as much as they can be.

Things specific to the PC like UI and controls layout are (or at least seem) a lot harder to fix through mods without native support than other things.

Darn does great work but there is only so much you can do shifting around the xml. You don't really see any OB mods that add extra functionality to the UI or the controls that would make a greater PC experience. Most of what you see is resizing fonts and the like. The few mods that do attempt to add functionality like additional hotkeys, etc, tend to be clunky still not very intuitive to the PC.

I'll say a small prayer each night that Qarl will be doing his magic with Skyrim since I have no illusion that the textures will be sufficient on the PC. Even that though falls short of graphic improvements the devs could make natively. Nothing short of a miracle is going to add additional DX10/11 features.

I trust the game play, leveling, story, experience in the game world, etc. will all be great, but I do tire of playing what amounts to console ports on my PC all the time. -_-

I'm secretly hoping TW2 is a huge hit and surpasses all expectations and other games this year, including Skyrim, to get devs out of this console focused rut they have been in for years now. The whole industry is stagnating.

I don't think i've seen enough to ask for any improvements. I'll wait until E3 rolls along, and post back here. :P
