You dare question me?!

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:50 am

I find it hilarious when Miraak questions my power, I have delved into the deepest Dwemer Ruins, the most dangerous Nordic burial sites, traversed the Soul Cairn, been to Sovngarde and back, found the last ever Snow Elves, had 6 Daedric Princes name me their champion, defeated Alduin the World-eater, explored every nook and cranny of Skyrim and Solsthiem, assassinated an Emperor, I have found the lost Aetherium forge, I am the Archmage of Winterhold, I am DOVAKHIIN!

But he's Hermaeus Mora's pet.

Oh and not every playerborn is all those things.

Well being locked up like he has... even surrounded by knowledge has left him.... well rather stupid.

And I find him and the MQ for Dragonborn to be the worst quest in Skyrim history... Its all the bonus content with Dragonborn that keeps me happy I bought it.

Even with all his power my Dragonborn who knew only Unrelenting Force and the shouts required to get to Miraak had little problem killing him. She had not retrieved the horn yet for the Grey Beards and had not even killed Alduin.

Miraak is strong but he talks to much, he has a massive ego.

I've never played Dragonborn. This Miraak guy sounds like an ass.

He's not too bad really (except from the fact he appears out of nowhere and steals the souls of Dragons YOU kill) but in a world without power me and him might have been friends

I see that Blackbeard reference up there :icecream:

Miraak voices that he believes he could have defeated Alduin. I also take from his attitude that he believes himself to be outwitting Hermaeus Mora, a Daedric Prince. With each case you've cited there, he's probably resolved in his whacked-out, arrogant mind that those achievements are either not that significant (What is a Cyrodiilic warlord to him? Or some petty college of non-Thu'um spells?) or he could do better. What seemed promising as an intelligent and powerful character kind of disappointed me with the nonstop arrogance rather than wit.

Loved his original quote.

But I agree, they had the potential for an amazing character but ruined it, I still think he was good but could have been so much more

I believe it was because they did not have enough time to make a build up, like Ulysses in New Vegas.

Well he could have defeated him ,he knows far more about the Thu'um than the LD does and his ingame strenght is not necresary his Lore strenght ;)

Honestly do you think that a non dragonblood emperor would insterest him? He doesn't even need to be arogant he simply doesn't care ,you basically murdered an old man.

The college :He is a powerful mage himself .

And the most important : How should he know ... ? You aren't telling him and I doubt that HM is giving him a Newspaper.

Yes he knew that you killed Alduin but that's probaly something that he can feel as a Dragonborn.

Wasn't saying that all sarcastically. However, Miraak was defeated by the dragons and their priests and Alduin wasn't even needed. He likely would have succeeded, but in his arrogance refused to help those who succeeded without him and therefore stood alone. Just because his own stupidity led to his downfall (and only Hermaeus Mora's intervention stopped his death). And whatever "lore strength" he has (I have yet to see his existence noted outside of Dragonborn dialogue and events), he was canonically defeated by the LD and canonically defeated by Alduin's subordinates, both dragons and non-dragonborn mortals. Miraak is right on all other counts of the Dragonborn's achievements listed in the OP - his own exploration and historical combat prowess grant him the right to scoff. His arrogance is not warranted and accurate, though. The first instance of it had him at a Dragon Priest's mercy and the second led to his death.

WHAT >_>

Don't you dis Ulysses! That guy was perfect through and through with his major build up. All the DLCs revolved around that guy and spoke of the man perfectly. His incite on his hatred was beyond intimidating. He even put up quite a fight in the end if you couldn't talk him down. That man there scared me more than what Miraak could have possible proposed. Hah! You missunderstood me! I meant that they should have done what they did with Ulysses to Miraak, you know that built up.

Yes he dares questions you. He's got 5,000 years of a resume on you. And he really is, second only to you. So yes, you do not impress him, as he could pull off your stunts just as flawlessly.

Ha! You're right! My mistake. Gotta pay more attention. Just got a little excited when I heard that name. He's pretty awesome :)

That wouldn't be a bad idea for Miraak either. Would have gave us a better sense as to who he was and showing how important he was. I always have this sense where no one seems important, not even you or Alduin. However, I didn't feel that way when I was fighting the evil Snow Elf in Dawnguard. That fight actually felt like a boss fight and the way you enter that place set the theme perfectly

I wasn't really affected by his arrogance. I was more concerned with the fact that he tried to kill me, and that his servants were subduing the islands inhabitants.

I would like to point out, to those saying "he was defeated by the LDB":

Spoiler
the LDB only won by a technicality If I recall (been awhile since i played through the quest)

the LDB did not kill Miraak, did Mora not come out and impale Miraak turning him to ash?

as such it is possible (lore-wise) without that intervention, the LDB would have fallen during the encounter..

Necessary or not, I feel that bosses like Alduin and Miraak should only be faced when you are at your peak, because those are the moments when you prove your power as the Dragonborn.

Harkon is different, he's just a cocky vampire.

That happens when Miraak's HP is low.

In other words, it's no different from when a MMA fighter is beating another to a bloody pulp and the referee ends the match.

No one ever thinks the guy that was getting his ass beaten could have won if the fight had continued.

Harkon is the most powerful Vampire we have encountered, and likely the single-most powerful vampire we will ever hear about.

Point is, he isn't related to the whole Dragonborn business and so I don't feel any obligation to face him at my peak as I do with Alduin and Miraak.
