You dont need to sleep to level up?

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 3:18 am

I think you're not forced to spend your perk point, but I think that the level up will count towards the level scaling of the world.

I specifically remember a journalist saying you don't have to level right away. They could have been wrong though. There have been so many recent previous I have no idea which it was from though. I'm positive at least one of them said it though.

...You can still wait somehow before you level up for the record.

paying for a bed at an inn was useless in morrowind and Oblivion ,only use it for related quests.

Honestly, you don't know much about the game if you're complaining about this stuff...
all he does is to complain.

OP, yes the game now is unplayable due to the fact you dont have to find a bed. This feature was removed becouse there is no spell making and you can't make a spell that allows you to summon a bed while adventuring. About your rp as a herb gatherer, just dont lvl up then, dont kill a monsters just leg it instead, just like a herb gatherer would do.

Am I alone in having done this now and then for the fun RP of it? I specifically remember one tavern that wouldn't let me stay the night because the owner saved the rooms for her "special" :hubbahubba: guests.

Hey, This gives them a reason to add more features to beds then just leveling up in MORROWIND you didn't need a bed you just needed to rest outside or indoors couldn't in illegal areas like inside a city. Really its not that big of a deal its like saying they took out loot-able pelvis bones..

They did WHAT!!!??

"You realize that all your life you have been coasting along as if you were in a dream. Suddenly, facing the trials of the last few days, you have come alive."

...how now are we going to to rest and meditate on what we have learned??

Exactly. What bothers me is how easily people just go with the flow and automatically agree that whatever Bethesda does is the best thing ever..... "ZOMG ITS JUST a BED NOOB".... seriously?

Resting to level up seemed like a staple for TES games to me, it was tradition, it made them unique..... I'm certainly not going to "boycott" the game now, but it does disapoint me.

No, it's not a staple of tradition because you didn't have to sleep to level in Arean, Daggerfall, Redguard, and Battlespire. Personally I think it is a good idea to level instantly (if we choose to do so) because it was a pain to find a bed roll or sleep especially being a bad character and can't level while being persued.

I also like the fact that sleeping and eating actually has a benefit that actually matters.

A staple? A tradition?

It was only in 2 out of the 4 games.

I did kind of like the having to find a bed to level bit, but people who are complaining about this really are blowing it out of proportion. It IS just a bed. Yes. Seriously.

You purposely left out unique I noticed.

But yes, they were those things to me. I have played Arena and Daggerfall, but my first TES experience was Morrowind.

Naw, I did it all the time. I loved to visit all the inns in Cyrodiil and Vvardenfell, as they usually have the highest concentration of "Atmosphere" in the game(s). Hopefully Skyrim continues that tradition.

Seeing as how they have added non-lethal bar brawls, I wouldn't be too worried.

This is actually a positive change. Oblivion's whole leveling up system was deeply flawed anyway.

Well, apparently there is only a tiny bit of level scaling outside of dungeons, so you shouldn't see a difference if you're wondering through the forest doing whatever it is you like to do.

Also, have we seen anyone level up yet? How does it work? Anyone know?

You rise to a new level of understanding, and enlightenment by defecating yourself several times in a row. You then spontaneously combust into hundreds and thousands. !!!LEVEL UP!!!

Considering you do not have to worry about making sure you have reached +5 in 3 stats at lvl ups any more... I think its a great change =) and i think you are forgetting that~ If anything resting has been improved and is now usefull instead of annoying... Because you gain experience faster, and dont have to worry about leaving a dungeon half way to rest to lvl up just so you dont waste any more skill'ups ^_^

There is a type of player for whom the entire point of a game like this is to get to the highest level possible as quickly as possible. They show up regularly, still, on the Oblivion and Morrowind forums, asking for advice on how to level as fast as possible.

Skyrim's leveling seems to have been tailored to those players.

I never learned anything sleeping. The idea of gaining usable experience from sleeping is illogical. My character sleeps for role playing purposes and needs with proper sleep mods anyway. I take a bedroll with me (mod I made) so I can level up instantly anyway... so this is fine. Fallout was like this, and fabulous.

Including Redguard and Battlespire in that list is silly, they are spin-off titles. Sleeping in beds to level is as much a tradition as starting as a prisoner. Is it a significantly negative change? No, but it was unique and a bit clever. It was a little quirk that set TES apart, and I'm not happy to that go.

HAHAHA... no it wasn't.

There were a lot of RPG where you could only level up in certain areas, be it a town, a training camp or during meditation. TES was hardly the one bringing this up the first time.
