You dont need to sleep to level up?

Post » Fri Aug 26, 2011 3:22 am

..to ruin the game? ... Seriously this news is TERRIBLE!

In oblivion... I often chose to stay at low levels.. simply because the role I was playing as a humble herb gathering woodsman didnt need to be tackling high level beasts in my adventures.

Also why ever bother sleeping in a bed? why waste money paying for a bed at an inn? with regenerating health and instant levelling... why not just wait for an hour in a town?

I am really unhappy with the news :( It removes the value of coming across a bed after a long, heavy jaunt in the wild... equipment broke, low supplies.. but atleast can sleep and level up now.

This game has become way too arcady for my liking.

@DCDeacon Pete Hines
@coo_snake @SkyrimFan2011 You get a bonus for being Rested, a la FO3

Many RPGs before had instant level up. Nothing new and nothing arcady.

Honestly, you don't know much about the game if you're complaining about this stuff...

Sorry dude, I don't like having to sleep to level up. I definitely like it to be instant. Also, have we seen anyone level up yet? How does it work? Anyone know?

If you can't tell what's going on in my post... people from space/the future have come to laugh at you as you are mocked by a very clever person playing the world's smallest violen at the most opportune time in history/space.

Hey, This gives them a reason to add more features to beds then just leveling up in MORROWIND you didn't need a bed you just needed to rest outside or indoors couldn't in illegal areas like inside a city. Really its not that big of a deal its like saying they took out loot-able pelvis bones..

Again, resting in a bed gives bonuses, read my previous post.

you still have to raise your skills to level, so just don't raise any skills. Gathering herbs isn't a skill...so you've got it covered. You also get a "rested" bonus for sleeping in beds. And you could just roleplay that you need sleep. Problem solved.

I voted no. It's not a major thing, but something I'm used to and quite like. The whole "sleep to reflect and grow" makes sense as that's how people actually work. Just getting it in Fallout felt a bit awkward (although it fit more in that world).

Meditation would be better in my opinion. Find a safe place in the wild, place your mat and become a spiritual guru! :celebration:

Admittedly I'd prefer to be able to control my levelling but it's no big deal. It's not like I'm going to die from having to be careful about how much I use my skills.

Isn't it true that you don't have to choose a perk when you level? So you can avoid becoming good/overpowered or whatever else you're worried about. Beds give you a bonus, so they're not useless. Other RPGs have instant levelling, so it's not dumbing down or removing it from the genre or anything silly like that. Actual role players will still use beds for obvious purposes, plus NPCs still use them, so they're not rendered redundant.

I certainly am not.

they already said we level up twice as fast as oblivion and every skill contributes to levelling up!

I have a fear that only 2 hours into the game I'll be level 15 fighting grand ice trolls and ancient lich's just on my way to the local blacksmith!

I don't think level scaled enemies are as obvious in this game. Didn't someone say that it's more to do with the regions you visit, rather than your level?

Good luck getting to level 70. I wonder how much grinding you have to do. Actually, now that I think of it, I'll roleplay a Nord guru!

I'm happy because I don't have to worry about turning into a vampire when I want to level up, because I haven't noticed I have the disease (whatever it's called). But apart from that it's all together more convenient. Plus level scaling isn't as bad as Oblivion so it shouldn't be too much of a problem in that perspective.

I'm kinda neutral about it. Although it makes beds a bit useless but I can still rp.

I am very happy with this change. I always thought the sleep to level up mechanic was very strange and contrived.

In fact I use the nGCD leveling mod in Oblivion, which among other things does not require sleep to level up. That concept of needing to sleep in a bed to level up just seems strange to me.

This is another step forward in improving immersion. Great job Bethesda :thanks: :thumbsup:
