You drop your weapons

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:08 am

When I read about this feature I think it's was pretty cool but if your inventory is stacked and you toss some weapons away do you guys see the issue of having someone always randomly run up to you every time you willingly trash your sword as annoying..I see that as a foreseeable issue a minor irritating one at least.

They react based on their disposition to you. Most NPCs will be neutral, and will either ignore the item or keep it for themselves.

Perhaps.

I might stand around in the middle of town, tossing weapons, and see what happens.

You move away and drop the stuff , or store it in your house

True, I thought there would be wandering NPC around and for some reason they would pick up the weapon and just return it to you in the middle of battle or something, lol.

won't be annoying if you are on a main road or in populated areas eg: if you dropped a rare helmet in a cave or forest when you pass through a city some one will give it back to you or if you over hear a convo about the item you could try to claim it back.

May i ask how and why would you drop a rare helmet? :spotted owl:

In no way trying to be mean , i just don't even understand Todd when he says you drop your sword on the middle of a town , why should i do that ?

Pretty sure this will only happen if they see you drop it and immediately think it's an accident AND have a high disposition toward you. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense, it's not like it has your name etched into it.

It's an example of the new AI, it's not saying it always happens.

They will only offer it to you. Todd didn't say that you had to take it. The NPC offering it will think it was a mistake, and just offer it. Just choose not to take it if it bugs you that much.

When I read about this in the article a while back, I also had that same idea. Just going to toss everything in my inventory in the middle of town and watch everyone lose their minds over all the free calipers and spools of yarn and paintbrushes at their disposal

If I have dropped something to get rid of it I don't want every Adoring Fan coming up to me ecstatically proclaiming "By Azura! By Azura! By Azura! It's the Dovahkiin. I saw you drop that mighty sword over there so I thought I'd return it to you."

Rather, I'd like the option to say something along the lines of "Thank you very much [take the item]", or "Thanks, but you can keep it [leave the item]".

I'll just see that as an opportunity to having an extra meat shield by simply ignoring the thoughtful fellow as I walk in to the nearest dungeon.

To make everyone fight over it obviously. But like it has been said, this won't always happen and probably won't happen in places like caves or the wilderness.

Walk into the town square with a rucksack. The local population turns to watch you. You set it down and open it. They look warily. As you reach inside a guard puts his hand on his sword, ready to attack if need be. You pull out loads of gems, cups, fruit, and books and throw it in the air. "YARD SALE MOTHER****ERS!"

I like it.

I can see it now: You drop some knitting supplies, and two grown warriors start slaying eachother over it.

I will drop a weapon on the ground and see someone who doesn't like me take it then kill them later and tell the guards because he stole my weapon :chaos:

I'm interested in seeing how they worked out the potential problems this could cause.

Since conversations will be done in real-time you can just keep walking and ignore them. They'll probably get the point eventually and go away.

Hmmm, i am curious now.. Maybe if you drop something and the NPC offers it back but you let them keep it, it will raise their disposition higher?? That would be cool.

True, but I still hope it doesn't happen all of the time.

"Wandering through town, you could enter your inventory and decide to drop a heavy two-handed weapon rather than sell it at a nearby shop. In some instances, the weapon might lie there forgotten in the mud. At another time, a young boy might grab it up and rush after you, asking if you had dropped it and might like it back. In a third instance, two burly men reach the weapon at the same time, and begin to fight over who will take it home." -Game Informer, issue 214, cover story, page 53.
