Do you ever actually read readmes?

Yes.
You probably should have added in a poll for this.

I always read the Read Me, but never the Cheats or Hints that are added in a mod. The mods that come with small synopsis or little stories, those get read as well.

So, I was working on my version history today, when it suddenly hit me: I wasn't even working on my documentation for the mod that I should be working on instead. I was working on the documentation for my documentation.

It's like Xibit showed up at my door and was like, "yo, dawg, I heard u like documentation..."

I'm finally done with the main readme for my mod... and it's clocking in at over 92 kb of text.

Mind you, that's not even the version history OR the changelog. That's just the part that explains what the mod is, what it does, why it does what it does, and what I was smoking when I made it.

I always like to know exactly what a mod is doing, and why, so that's music to my... eyes?

Well, here it is, if anyone's interested:

http://btb2.free.fr/temp/Readme.txt

I'm almost ready to release this thing, barring any problems with the last plugin I have yet to finish updating.

As a modder myself, you bet I do - if any mod I download contains resources I might be tempted to use (and most do) I want to know whether or not I'm allowed to!

I always make my readme's and copy them into the mod description, so people who read my mods descriptions shouldnt need to read the readme's

But its always good to have.

Sometimes you dl a mod, start it and think "err where the hell was i meant to go again to start it!?" so readme's save me the effort of clicking 2 extra times :celebration:

haha

Excellent documentation. It makes a mod of this sort infinitely more useful and appealing.

Someone pointed out to me that my readme wasn't just mod documentation, but also one of the biggest exploit guides to Vanilla Morrowind around >.>

I have become a dutifull reader of readme's wrye & MGE really require carefull reading of all their manuals,. So I'm real carefull to read every word that comes with a mod & or 20 pages of forum help before asking for any help with installation issues
