Do you ever become a vampire on a character you didn't inten

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 7:14 am

Sometimes I'll start a character knowing I want to be a vampire. Other times I'll play along and get the vampire disease and actually stop to think if I want to cure it or not. Vanilla vampirism isn't that much fun, but with the right mods it be a fun experience. Do you guys play as vampires, and how did they come to be?

This reminds me of why I hate the 3 day system so much. It's just a normal disease that's pathetically easy to cure, unless you CHOOSE to withhold curing it for three days.

You can't be cursed with Vampirism, because you either want it or not.

One of my characters contracted the disease once in Morrowind. She was horrified and quickly got cured of it. That's as close as any of my characters have come to being a vampire.

Lothran has never been a vampire, nor will he. He would miss Buffy to greatly

Heh. I once created a character who was intended to become a vampire, and promptly contracted the disease at Fort Carmala. On the way back to Chorrol, we passed by the nearby Wayshrine of Dibella, and completely out of habit, stopped to pray at it...

I am probably one of the few, that actually enjoy playing as a vampire. I was blown away by the discovery, during my first playthrough. At that time, I was a virgin to TES. I had no internet and no knowledge of forums. It was a great experience. I bought the game on a whim, while browsing the store for something to break the boredom. After a month of playing, I found out that a coworker had been playing off and on for months. I told him I was a vampire. His reply was..."I didn't know you could BE a vampire."

My character was given the choice, by an NPC. Thus, it was purely my decision and not stricken upon my character by contracting a disease. Needless to say...I gladly accepted the offer.

Now...Go with Sithis.

Ah yes, the happy days ^_^

Seriously the forum has helped me a lot (thanks guys!), but I′m glad I didn′t have this or the wiki upon being unleashed into Cyrodiil. That would have ruined it completely

I completely agree. There is no greater gaming experience, than going through COMPLETELY blind. Ignorant to any aspect of it. But as you stated, the forums contain a lot of great people, like yourself, that are very knowledgeable on the game. It's brought my replay value up. Thus, I find myself able to enjoy the game ALMOST as much as my first time.

Thanks guys.

In my opinion, that's actually one of the benefits of buying a game when it comes out: no Wikis or walkthroughs or threads inadvertently spoiling parts of the game. At least not for the first few weeks, anyway. Heck, I was nearly finished with Oblivion's main quest before people started talking about
Spoiler
getting a statue in Bruma.
None of us knew these things when we started the game.

To be honest, I would hate to be someone picking up Oblivion in 2008 or 2009 (or later). I think I'd feel I was coming late to the party. Everything in the game has been discovered already by someone else years ago, everything's been figured out, everyone knows how to manipulate glitches and work around obstacles already. Personally I love that feeling I get of embarking upon uncharted waters when I play a game that's just been released. The community figures it out together. That's kind of nice.

Well my current character EradiKate was presented with the choice of becoming a vamp from that guy in the Dark Brotherhood, but she turned him down. It was only later on when she got bit affected by some random NPC vamp that she pondered the choice more seriously. And most of you all know what happened there (she took the plunge, is living the vampire lifestyle, yada yada yada)....

Heh. I had no issues when I discovered Oblivion 3 years ago. But you see, I didn't know of these forums, or UESP or any of that. In a sense, I was therefore playing "blind" for several months. What I would HATE is if I was just discovering TES now, just as SKyrim is coming out. I think I'd be way overwhelmed.

I did in Daggerfall. The message that you caught something is easy enough to miss when it spams other messages frequently. In Oblivion & Morrowind it's always been completely intentional.

My last Vampire character I really played was afflicted with a disease far worse than Vampirism, the Vampire Face Glitch!

You know how to avoid this, right? For female vamps?? Load up an earlier save of the char. before she was a vampire. And then from there load up again the actual vampire save. Use the startup menu save, basically, for the 1st load, and then load up in-game from there.

...wait are you talking about the actual glitch? Or just the fact that all vamps get old & ugly?

I meant the glitch, I did not have reliable internet access from 2004 to 2008. I may start a new Vampire after a first playthrough of Skyrim, but I lack the time right now

It may be my love for highelves...

but in fact : IN NEVER EVER GOT SICK.

played over 600 hours now.. killed many nop, monsters and such.. only have the normal 75% resistance of the highelve.. and not once I got sick..
almost dulling...

starting to wonder how long DOES it take to get sick? how big is the change? whats the trick?
for I seem to been unable to get ANY disease..

in morrowind same thing.. played altmer there too.. though on occasion I remember there getting some illness.. more often than in oblivion though..

Reading your post, I was inspired to pick up Nurmara, my evil mage. Take the plundge, and become a vamp. I have never had a female vamp. It seemed fitting for her. I tried the save/load thing. It helped...some. She is still pretty rough. The main problem I have, is that her head clips through any head gear, I put on her. Being a High Elf, her head is rather tall in the first place. I actually made her look almost human, in the creator. After the transformation, she assumes a normal High Elf head. Just wondering if others had the same issue.

Needless to say, she will be subject to a one shot fire. Being an Alt / App / Vamp, fire will smoke her butt.

Once you get "bitten" (ahem), it takes 3 days for the vampirism to kick in. Normal high elf resistance should prevent being affected most of the time, but my high elf (Igodah Go^Pe) got affected at one or two points in her game by Polyphoric Hemophelia. perhaps you're just lucky  Igodah did lots and lots of dungeon diving though.

All you have to do is go into a vampire's dungeon and let them attack your character. Eventually your char should get affected I would imagine.

There are probably ways to lower disease resistance in the vanilla game if you're that desperate to have a high elf vamp, but I don't know...I've never tried to find out personally.

Cool, well I'm glad me and Kate have inspired you. I agree, Kate still looks pretty rough, even if I load her game up twice like I said. but at least she doesnt look like a man! :yuck:

Oh, and she's Breton. But her cute http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/view.jpg unfortunately is gone. :( I'm looking for a pic of her as a vamp, but am not sure if ive ever taken one yet. I was sure I had. :(

Yes, ya'll did...and yes, Kate is very cute. I wished I could sport some picks of my own. I spent a LOT of time, in the creator. ( as usual ) I must say Nurmara WAS pretty hot. Now at 100% Vamp, she's rode pretty hard.

Funny you say "Looks like a man". I tried diff loads, and when I load the Vamp save, from the main menu, she becomes a he. It's not until I do the "Renee trick", that she assumes ANY female recognizable traits. The plus side of the Start-Load, is that the head doesn't clip through the head wear. BUT I cringe!...when I pull up her inventory and I'm looking at a female body, with a Charlton Heston head...It's freakin' me out!

I wish there was some sort of a mask. A full helm takes away from Magic.

The character that I free roam on is an Argonian with 100% disease resistance, so no, but on other characters it can get annoying.
