@charon711 - I must say you and I are very similar; I also do that wherever I go!

Yep, pretty much. I forgot to mention I live in Brooklyn, NY, and near the Barclay Center. So people are buying houses and tearing them down then rebuilding them all the time here.
Where I live at (in Wichita, Ks) I feel rather safe, not much happens here except the mail room of this apartment complex was broken into (twice) a few years ago, unfortunately the police never got anywhere with the investigation. I can go for a walk after sundown and don't worry about anything other than drivers. However I worry even more about drivers when I'm behind the wheel, which is most of the time when I'm at work.
I do however carry a collapsible baton with me in my car, even though I'll probably never need it, and if I did I'm more likely to forget that it's even there.
Understandable. I just see those stories and thank my lucky stars my parents were Americans
Ya got me!
I often wonder about growing up in a different culture and/or country, if my parents had been other than American. I could possibly by so much different
I also constantly scan the ground and what's above me.... Find money that way too
Sorry, but that James Woods "Piece of Candy" bit from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmvLexamrmk popped into my head!
