You feelin' lucky punk?

7 luck and the part at the Repcon HQ where
Spoiler
You can tell the robot "[LUCK 7] Ice Cream" and it identified you was hilarious

Ha ha. I just did that last night. I was like "whha?"

I put in 9 points in luck myself. I AM LOVING IT. Hell, i prob should of just put 10.

I have over 10000 caps, the majority of which i won at black jack

My character is a critical beast.

Combined, Built to destroy trait (+3% crit), a certain hat that is given to you (+5 crit) , the finesse perk,(+5 crit) the better criticals perk (+50% crit damage), and high luck (9 in my case) you have a critical rate of around 22%.

Using a multi pellet/beam weapon (I.E. the terrible shotgun / metal blaster from fallout 3) , I believe the critical is calculated per each pellet/beam. This boosts the critical rate even further and gives a CRAZY amount of damage.

My character energy weapon base so I also threw in the Meltdown which seems to activate on criticals, though I'm not sure, as a cherry on top.

At lvl 22 you can take Laser commander which giver you +10% crit and a damage boost. I'm not there yet but I can't wait, I think I'll get a critical rate of 32% after that perk. :)

The crit is great. Especially if you have a weapon that modifies crit 2x-3x

also , luck helps you win more in Casino games like black jack. (i read this in a few places)

I JUST MADE A NEW CHARACTER TODAY.

and put in 10 luck, then other stuff of course, but since we're on the topic of luck, it's now my favourite S.P.E.C.I.A.L. ... Why? because #1 i've made so much in blackjack alone at lvl 4 that i don't really need to worry about caps for a while and #2 all the critical hits im getting, it's great.. especially in the earlier levels.

Is luck really that good? I've been getting my ass kicked and I'm playing on normal and I'm also poor as [censored]. I might want to start a new character with 10 luck =/

I'm playing hardcoe-hard right now. I still die, low endurance, low charisma, low agility was my sacrifice for high luck, it is just a trade off. I die in two good sting from a cazadore, but then again I can basically kill them in one or two shots, using a mulit-beam weapon.

it is fun but I don't know if they play style is for everyone. Just give it try and see if you like it. Great for (GUN) snipers as those rifles usually have a high crit multiplier. Energy weapons usually have lower crit rate but higher crit damage, usually.

In Vegas, Lady Luck rules.
Luck is the perk that keeps you alive in a scrap.
Luck is the perk that finds you all those nice little goodies.
Luck is the perk that gets you thrown out of a casino.

I put 6 in Luck, I really wish I'd pumped it up to 10 now... maybe 8 or 9 and the rest in Intelligence.

Actually put 9 luck that way you can get the luck implant and still have one more point to use elsewhere. Like endurance for example which will give you another implant later on.

Luck is really not necessary for making money, guys. I haven't even hit the Strip and I still have 30000 caps, even after spending 24000 on implants.

How? Caravan.

Here is my character:

Strength - 5 - I would have gone dow nto 4, but I want the strong back perk. Also, I can use a larger variety of guns.
Perception - 5 - You don't need a perception higher than 6. With most hats, you gain +1 perception. I also play with my HUD off to improve immersion.
Endurance - 4 - I don't want to be too fail, but I can afford to borrow from this trait.
Charisma - 6 - Outside of helping companions, a Charisma over 6 is overkill, and I am a player who's first character had 8. I learned the hard way.
Intelligence - 7 - More skill points. Also, this is the highest attribute check for Intelligence I saw while skimming through the Prima Guide book.
Agility - 6 - I don't use V.A.T.S. all that much, but it helps to have the poitns when I do. Also helps my guns skill.
Luck - 7 - The answer to the question. Like Intelligence, through skimming the guide book, this is the highest check the game makes at any point in the game.

Tag Skills:
Guns - My main form of combat
Repair - A nice starting value for an important survival skill.
Speech - A nice starting value for role playing.

Traits:
Good Nature - Grants me bonuses to many skills i like while only the skills I care abotu that it hits are Guns and explosives.
Trigger Discipline - Improves accuracy. I don't care about my rate of fire as much. It's really not going to slow down and automatic weapon, or shouldn't.

Goals:

At level two I put points into lock picking to raise it from 16 to 25 so I can crack into "easy" locks. That was 9 of my 13 points. I took Barter from 23 to 25 and put the rest into small guns. The goal is to have Speech at 50 before I enter the New Vegas strip. It shouldn't be that difficult. With my tag skill, charisma and good nature, I am really close to it already. I put the rest of my points from level 2 into small guns just ot help out in the early game. I plan on spending a lot of my level 3 and 4 points on Speech unti l iget to 50

I did better than when I ran up on a deathclaw the first time on FO3. In FO3 it killed me in one hit. In F:NV it took it two.
I even tried to run when I saw it (freaking thing is a sprinter).

Dead is dead :P

I've also been gang-violated by a rather large crowd of Glowing Ones. Killed me faster than a deathclaw!

(but then I have my own mod on, everyone's got half the health they normally would, including me)

I used to have luck at 7 but now I put it at 9 for the +5 skillpoints that 9 luck gives.

this game around luck was my drop skill. i put charisma at 6... it helps with flavour. i was reading the manual about a certain quest and i was happyly greeted by a ghoul telling me to "please go upstairs". in the guide the ghoul says to go upstairs "before your unpleasent apperance causes vomiting". my brother also noticed he get treated like a 2nd class citizen compared to me.
