You find the some ancient ruins from a long-dead, advanced c

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2009 6:46 pm

Deep down in an old dwarf ruin you find an old dusty gate, and the secret behind the dwermer technology - technology from an other ancient, let's say evil, race. Let us call them "Torcks". The Torcks lived in Skyrim-Northern Cyrodill long b4 any of the races had even set foot on the region, be that men, elves, orcks, dwarfs or beats but they went extinct after a mysterious occurrence (punishment from the nine gods due to their evil, maybe?). The dwermer though were the first to actually populate the area and they were the first, and only, to discover the Torcks' dark secrets.

One of these dark secrets was gunpowder and primitive rifling. I think that the player should get access to muskets at low level, before he will start finding dwermer/torck rifles. In the end he may even find high-level sniper-rifles (they would ofc run on magica though)? I'm thinking really accurate auto-weapons. Like that1 in Fallout 3.

Anyway. The adding of another race could be fun.. HELL, we might even unlock it as playable if you complete your first playthrough. I think many of you are sceptical to making an extinct race playable due to the lack of realism, but I really think that there can be found loopholes. Let's say the nine gods forgave the or something, and they sent one torck down to the world, tamriel, to maybe give the race another chance. So, if you play the torck, what will you do? Will you be good, and thus secure a future for your race? Will you be evil and selfish? Or will you take the path of power and challenge the nine gods themselves (including Tiber Septim I.)? That choice is up 2 you.

TL;DR I want guns.

Creative, but no. In a world where you can ejaculate fire/lightning/ice from your fingertips. People wouldn't take the time to invent guns, and if they were to exist, they would be useless with magic in the world.

Better idea, give us the ability to use telekenises to throw rocks at people with accuracy and power.

Actually, wouldn't guns act as a counterbalance to mages for non-magic users? Not everyone has the time, desire, or intelligence to be a spellcaster, after all.

But no, not in the Elder Scrolls, please.

Ignoring the parts of the post that are blatantly a straight "no," the devs have already said there will be the same 10 races and no more.

I've never understood this idea that long dead civilisations would have technology hugely outstripping modern ones.

In any case, you come at me with a rifle and I'll come at you with a fireball and a shield spell - guns don't just not fit into the world, they're ineffective.

If a shield spell would completely make one immune to bullets, then why do people bother with swords and axes? Magic is powerful, yes, but not all-powerful.

I will reiterate, however... No guns in Elder Scrolls, please.

Can someone explain to me why people keep asking for guns? I don't get it. Why would guns be in Skyrim? Or TES at all? It doesn't fit and just because we invented guns here on earth it doesn't mean they will invent it.
Also I would lovw some deeper information on the dwarves rather than your other ancient race.

Some sci-fi and fantasy novel series over the decades have had something like that as their basis (The Shannara books, Dragonriders of Pern, various others). But it helps for the world to have been designed that way from the beginning. Not just be a random "hey, guns would be k00l!" thrown in for giggles.

So, yeah... that's not TES.

The most advanced gear should be the dwemer centurions and Sotha Sils constructions IMO.
Also I refuse to vote before a "I'm tired of people constantly asking for guns" option.

If you had lived only a few hundred years or so ago, you would actually be capable of saying that - depending on your definition of "dead civilization" is. There have been plenty of civilizations that were more advanced than those that followed them, or occurred later else where. Perhaps not "guns to sharp sticks" advanced, but there have been plenty of technological "regressions" in human history.

However, that said, I would have to vote no way in dark, smoldering place. Mages are already disadvantaged by being generally weaker fighters. "evening" the fight would make it pointless to play as a magic user - as well as make the game stupid.

You could become a dwemmer mechanist or something along those lines; using dwemmer tech to fight mages ect and so on.

Creative idea, and it might actually be fun in another game but PLEASE not in any TES games.

If I want guns, I'll go buy Red Dead Redemption, or fire up Lliberty City again.

Consider the tech differences between 1500 Europe and the america's at the time. That shows how two cultures could have varying levels of tech, also if a species (dwemmer) have been around longer as a civilization and have had time to evolve there culture/tech/society longer hence there wargear and tech levels.

A good example is compare high rome to the dark ages.

All you gun people should just give up once and for all. Stop trying to butcher TES and stick to shooters or mods to get your firearms fix.

Is there some specific reason people keep asking for guns in the Elder Scrolls games? Does it remind them of their WoW glory days or something?

But those are civilisations at the same time, seperated by space. I find it very difficult to believe that significantly advanced technology would be lost - either through trade, or looting after the fall, technology that advanced would be a prize worthy of anyone!
