Do you find yourself watching the trailer over and over agai

Post » Tue Aug 10, 2010 2:12 am

Few things in this world bring me to tears but epic music is one of them. Combined with the excitement of a new Elder Scrolls the first time I not only watched but more importantly HEARD the Skyrim trailer I will admit, I did shed a tear.

Being the manly man I am I sat down to examine the reasoning behind this and ended up realizing that the thing that hit me the hardest and made me nearly drop my man card was the MUSIC from the trailer. The classic Elder Scrolls theme, but now stylized like epic "orchestral with choir"(I tried to find a name for the genre, seriously) style.

But when I went back to listen to the theme music alone it really felt like something was missing. At first I didn't think it was the same theme music but a variation. I came to find out that I was somewhat right. The dragon shout right at the beginning of the climix of the music really kickstarted it for me in the trailer, but that shout isn't in the stand alone theme.

Then on top of all that is the sound the dragon makes when it breathes fire. Simply and utterly astonishing.

The trailer was a little bit too cheesy for my liking, especially the dragon shout. But it was exciting to watch just for the content.

As far as music is concerned, i'm much more interested in the more subtle tracks i'll be hearing as I travel through Skyrim. Oblivion set the bar very high in that regard.

I get you completely, it's the same for me. I knew that music was amazing from the GI video about Skyrim music, but the chorus kicking in after the dragon shout is by far the most epic Tes moment for me since the moment I got up on the deck in Morrowind.

What really made me cry was seeing that the release date was all the way in November XDD

But then again, as long as the finished product is as good as I picture it to be, then Beth can take all the time they need

I completely agree with the op.

Trailer was emotional, and it was about the timing of the music mixed with the timing of everything else (the rapid zoom away as he shouts).

I like the trailer but I can't admit to watching it over and over again. It is a very good trailer though I admit, they did well with it .

I will say that I thought it was super cool how the theme song starts with the guy doing the dragon shout.

I'm not a big fan of the Dragon Shout in the trailer. I hate how it blends in with the music. I cringe every time.

The Dragon Shout should have been left out altogether.

That part was super epic, I watch the trailer every night. The music director was a genius, rivaling Chrono Cross's music.

Oh?

That little bit of discord was very effective, I thought....as Dovhakin is just as much 'not a part of the regular world' as the dragons themselves. Humans touched by Diety tend to be not exactly human; in that they see or know more, choose or get pitchforked into situations no sane mundane would touch with a 60ft wyrm. They Dovhakin may -choose- to get involved in affairs going on, but s/he is =destined= to be the lone bulwark against the dragons and the coming end.

Where did you hear the theme without the shout?

I'm not sure I agree myself though. The music itself is what sounds great to me. The shout is ok, but don't think it affects the theme really to me. I wouldn't go so far as to say "cheesy", but I'm not really into how it's been edited into the trailer.

Nah, I watch the trailer over and over again for 1) the music, and 2) all the scenery flybys (cities, forests, etc).

Haha I know what you're talking about man. It was pretty epic when I first saw it although after watching it a few times it's lost it's edge.

My favorite parts are actually the scenes where he is sprinting through the woods with the head bob. Love it and cannot wait to do the same.

I still feel the same sense of awe and "oh, I want this, now!" every time I see the trailer and I watch it at least once a week. It's just so awesome, I giggle and huff in orgismic glee when I see it.

The wait is nail biting and the closer we get to November (or even to E3) it's getting into the twitchy area of build up.

The "trumpet" music as I call it between 0:54-1:07 is the most epic part of the trailer imo. I, strangely, don't really care much about the dragon shout though at 1:08 :/
