http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-03-14/aflac-fires-duck-voice-gottfried-over-japan-tsunami-remarks.html

This was actually surprising to me... Twitter is so casual now, that its almost become like a double edged http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damocles hanging over the podium.

Spoiler

The joke is probably no match for some of the memes I've seen. As long as it's a joke and not some of the honest idiotic remarks I've read...

Google it. I'd hate to see it repeated here, personally. You can find it somewhere.

If it wasn't so (deadly) serious, and tragic, it would be just par material for him; About something else and it could have been harmless... Bad judgment on his part.

I won't re-post the quotes, but they were easy to find. Basically they made light of the disaster using assumed situations.

Apparently '50 Cent' did the same!?

*Except that Foxnews link had quotes worse than Gottfried's (IMO) :(
That was unexpected... Gottfried at least has a history of this...
Gottfried, whose voice served as that of the Aflac duck, isn’t known for either tact or good timing; he famously made a 9/11 joke just three weeks after 9/11 happened. And the comedian’s Twitter stream is replete with jokes that some might describe as tasteless or insensitive.

One bad joke and I wouldn't care but to keep posting them is amazing.

I can't say I'm sorry that I won't be hearing the Aflac duck.

He is a comic. Tasteless comments are their bread and butter.

It seems that Aflac is really the only one here who made a mistake, and that mistake was hiring a comic to voice their spokesduck and expect him to always remain completely separated from some kind of politically incorrect controversy.

Indeed.

*Its curious that they did not fire him after 9/11.

Aflac doesn't know a gold mine when they see it. This is the kind of joke that young men tell to make their buddies giggle.
Don't they charge more for car insurance premiums for teenagers? Don't dis the demographic dudes.

/sarc off/

My .02 and I don't give a ducks ass. The joke is beyond the pale, and it's hard for me to imagine anyone thinking it's actually funny.
I think 'ol Gilbert needs to grow up.

Just looked the tweets up, they're the kind of jokes people tell each other every day, but of course, I forgot famous people aren't allowed to do anything human. Way to overreact.

Are you sure? I was linked to it from two other sites (including the huffington post) that posted his "tamer" ones, so I didn't see much reason to doubt their authenticity.

Wow really, maybe I am desensitized but that was pretty tame.

Floodlights joke made me lol, but really nothing bad.

God forbid any news sites find sickipedia.

Tame as some of them may be, I don't see making jokes about this as any different than making jokes about 9/11, or any other big disaster. It's just not something you should do, especially when it's less than a week after the disaster and bodies are still being found...

Wait, I thought he just said these 2 jokes:

Spoiler
* “Japan called me. They said ‘maybe those jokes are a hit in the U.S., but over here, they’re all sinking.’”
* “I was talking to my Japanese real estate agent. I said ‘is there a school in this area.’ She said ‘not now, but just wait.’”

Which is why I said they're incredibly tame.

I found
Spoiler
What do the Japanese have on in their homes ?

Floodlights.

I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say there will be another floating by.

I find the second one to be a bit bad, but the way people are acting, it just seems like they could be worse.

These kinds of jokes should be kept to yourself and not spewed out on the web. That's so insensitive of them. I hope they both drown to death, just to see what it would have been like to be in the situation in Japan.

An ironic death would be good, but really these people are better than the pearl harbour folks, atleast they arent serious, one is dark humor (which is up to you if its good or bad) the other is just hate/ignorance.

Ok now that family guy writer can go drown, he started that pearl harbour [censored]

You know what, I am not posting here anymore, its just brining attention to these people, and I feel bad just quoting them when this is still an issue.
