Do you get to a level where the game isn't challenging?

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 4:25 am

Hi guys,

I'm level 51 and thankfully I'm still finding the game quite challenging on hard. I can brease through most human enemies like raiders and gunners but there are still plenty of lethal creatures. This is good.

So my question is do you get to a certain level and it just gets too easy? You can kill anything? If so which level?

I've been nostalgically thinking back to my early levels. Armed with my trusty pipe rifle. Fearing combat with every group of raiders or muties. Running away a lot. Getting killed every five minutes. Ah good times.

For my next playthrough I'm thinking of stopping levelling up at say level 30. When raiders and muties were still to be feared and I didn't have such a powerful rifle.

Anyway thanks guys.

For my current, [Let's just mess around until Far Harbor comes out], play through, I have Mods that simulate Survival Mode. Level 15 or so, and I'm not really having any trouble. Boosted Damage Output makes even the Deathclaw in Concord easy.

There's always going to be that point where the game stops being challenging. Either you'll play enough of it that you'll have an excellent handle on any situation, you'll level up to the point nothing can hope to stand against you or you'll pick up gear that makes the most terrifying enemies a joke. That's just how it goes. Rest assured even when the new survival mode comes out within 24 hours I'd wager we'll be seeing plenty of posts about how its just easy mode with a side of meter maiding.

Yes in general but does depend on the enemy, the scaling in the game is a bit off so really enemies now have to be armed for them to be a threat - melee based just are not at all.

Attacking a Super Mutant camp is probably the hardest as Warlords can soak a lot of punishment, Gunners next as you can get the odd lunatic who's got a Fatman that keeps lobbing death at me. Coursars are a pain if not nailed before they activate their Stealth Boys.

Settlement attacks can be hard also as they seem to level with the player, Finch Farm had an attack where every one was a Warlord with minigu/rocket launcher. Tough fight B)

level 35 and honestly hardly anything gives me trouble now, expect behemoths.....but i just kill 'em by laying down a ton of mines and making 'em chase me. Main weapons are wounding combat shotgun ( ridiculously powerful ) up close and two shot pipe for sniping - its surprisingly good. On this playthrough i havent used any missile launchers or fat men yet, got a stack of them at abernathy farm haha. BUT to be fair i have barely touched the glowing sea yet.

Level 80 on Survival.

Quite happy wandering into the Glowing Sea with my Gauss

to take out packs of Deathclaws & Radscorpoions.

But why wouldn't I be?

I earned my power, perks, weapons etc, item by item over 200 hours.

At level 2, I was brutally murdered by the first bloodbug hatchling I met...

So on this playthrough the challenge has mellowed because the choices I made along the way have contributed to my uber-build.

That's not a fault with the game, it just is.

I will start again at some point on 'new survival' and we'll see how that goes B)

On my second play through I actually found the early game far easier than late game, but I knew where I could get an early .44 at level 1 and a legendary double barrel at level 5. Late game (currently level 90 on second character), I'm finding the game still very challenging, but I am restricting myself in certain aspects. I'm using ballistic weapons only, no BW and low tier leather armor for stat effects. I have played that way for almost 50 levels and I have found the game hasn't lost the challenge for me. My first character was a level 182 and he was beasted out. He walked around like god killing everything in his path without any worry of dying, which is why I retired him. I have learned to work out a balance between the late game and my character to keep the game a challenge for me.

Definitely depends on character build and your play style. There are certain builds that would easily make the game too easy on any difficulty. I intentionally did not try to make a godlike character. No defense perks, no endurance. All perception and agility. Even then, once I reached level 70 I felt pretty overpowered. There were a few times where I still got my ass handed to me though. Granted, I also kept my armor to a minimum. Until around level 60 all I wore was leather. After that I just wore clothes. I played on normal mode as I hate bullet sponges so it was up to me to create my own balance. No matter what, it still ends up being all about the HP's. . With enough, you can survive anything. And even with my low endurance I still ended up with over 500 hp's. To test out my toughness I nvded up and went hand to hand combat with a Bohemoth. I died in two hits.. but still.. that's two whole hits it took for that thing to take me down. So in a normal gameplay situation where I'm sniping from a distance.. I'm pretty godlike.

While your character will eventually outgrow the game, it does seem to be less of a problem than previous games. My Oblivion, Skyrim , Fallout 3 and New Vegas characters were much more dominant at high levels.

Level 115 right now and yes , no challenge at this level in survival , but to reach that level isn't easy and takes a lot of time but I have no problem with because I never get tired of searching for legendaries , is fun to get back to one of my settlements with 10+ legendary items and sell them all.

At the start of this gameplay I had lots of fun because I prohibit myself on upgrading my armor (sturdy/heavy also not allowed lol) to save weight and no power armor till lv 100.(Power armor is just for the jet pack , which I love it)

I played the entire story mode with dmg resistance not getting over 67 ball 75 en , I cant count how many times i got killed but man , it was fun lol

I'm 85 and nothing really bothers me anymore. I did get one-hit-killed by a Legendary Supermutant Master with an Engaging Hunting Rifle once, though.

Unless I get that combat rifle on the way to diamond city then whatever level im at lol.

Combine with power armor ( or not, I sneak ) and dying is pretty hard.

Challenge and fun are two separate issues- it's still fun running around on current survival mode at level 100+ with massively OP legendary weapons, but, no, not a dam bit of challenge left.

Yeah, it's level 1.

Seriously though, it's a Bethesda RPG. It isn't very difficult, in spite of what people say about survival.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I don't want it to be difficult because that'd make the game even more tedious, but yeah, it's not exactly super challenging or anything.

Yes OP, I'm at around your level, playing on hard, and I would say the game is basically unchallenging if I do my default VATS attacks. (It's a completely different story if I don't use VATS, I actually die and stuff). I'm not saying I run "towards" behemoths, but I did kill the swan with 3 shots before he even finished growling about 20 levels ago. I suppose I could change my playstyle, i.e. no VATS, or melee or something. Sometimes I do melee against ghouls for fun (especially with the khremvs tooth!), but melee seems pretty dumb against enemies with guns, and my characters not built for it. The game became unchallenging around level 30 for most enemies, but there was still the odd Prydwen battle or Super Mutants in the south that could kill me, now....I'm feeling pretty invincible and getting rather bored :(

You know, only Cait likes you naked. McCready likes you stealing things instead.

Yeah as I got to higher levels I needed to reduce armour ratings, not apply some specific perks and use weaker weapons.

Not all at once though.

Perhaps graduated after the mid to high sixties when some of the toughest variations of foes appear.

When i got really high level i could let the serfs and companion do most of the killing if i wanted to and if they were nearby.

It can become quite trivial to defeat enemies while i wait for DLC.

I guess that's where mods come in.

I actualy stoped playing my main at lvl 50 so i wont be overpowered in the dlc. That being said i feel like the lvl 40 mark is the beginning of finding the game too easy.

But i think survival is gonna give me the challenge i need, really looking forward to starting a new character for this.

But i do think fallout 4 is harder than say skyrim (never really got a big challenge from that, bit still loved it)

I hope they would bring a survival mode in the next elder scrolls.

I'm level 102 and use only a exploding assault rifle and deliverer. I kill things pretty easy. I'm one of those who have the bug embedded that won't allow me to go near or into Diamond City, so completing game isn't going to happen.

I do enjoy crafting and settlement development and still love playing the game. I play on easy at the moment and will change to survival when the DLC comes out.

Level 90+, play on normal. Combat is still fun and tactical.

Of course, lots of restrictions, like little or no-armor, minimal vats, no spamming super powerful legendary weapons, no devastating builds (like AP/Kellogg's Pistol or Explosive/Commando/Spray N' Pray).

Still get killed instantly by Fatmen and missiles, enemies with Gauss rifle nearly one hit kills me, etc., So have to take cover and be tactical.

I have no idea man...by level 51, I was rocking X-01 Mark 6 with a medic pump and about 200 stimpaks and Daddy Sledge (my legendary super sledge)

I've only been killed twice since level 33. I'm at level 70 now and barely anything in the game can dent me. Literally, a Deathclaw jumps on my dude and he just giggles.
