If you're going to die anyway, why not die in style?

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2011 7:16 am

Well, there are two things we know about finishers so far - that the player character can perform them on other actors and that NPCs can use them on one another. But I was wondering, can the player character be at the receiving end of one? And more importantly would you like that to happen occasionally? Even if it's not in vanilla Skyrim, this seems like an easy thing to mod in. Something that I may even be tempted to do myself. I'd like to know people's opinions on this idea. Yay or nay?

That would be nice. You'll get killed eventually anyway, it would be nice to see something else than just falling to the ground. Getting impaled by a claymore, for example.

No thanks. If I'm going to die I want it over quickly so I can reload and get back to playing.

I love reading Miss Leeches's posts and I'm a rebel, yada, yada. I think that us on the receiving end of a KO shot once in a blue moon would be a nice change.

Innovative poll!

I would like to see this. And I'd like my character to explode in fire (when she becomes a vampire!).

I'm going to become a brutal demon lord and nearly take over the world *cough*ofrock*cough*.

Just so a Nord with long, black hair and a beard can slice my head off, yell "DECAPITATION!!!!!!" and then rip two hearts out of my chest.............

I want my foes to snuff me out in style.

It would be pretty cool and since most games nowadays have no real hardships with dying (Autosaving everywhere etc.) it would make death entertaining. Catching a sword in the gut and our character looks down to see it before fade to black.

"Actors"? Is this one of those things like calling our character a "toon"? Cracks me up every time. =D

But yeah, I get what you mean. I like the idea.

i wouldnt mind this at all. i hate the random finishers performed by the PC but this would be like the zombies eating your corpse after you die in resident evil......kind of funny if the bandits started rifling through your pockets or necromancers starting fighting over your various body parts for their experiments. "i call dibs on the hands" " no way i had hands last time, if you want them then i get the head and both feet" monsters would of course just start munching on you. lots of fun could be had with this. :)

Yes, I think finishers should be able to be performed by anyone on anyone, including all creatures, and the finishers should be appropriate for the one doing it. Getting burst into flames when you die as a vampire or to have other creatures die in different ways like that would be cool too, like in Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines when it shows a slow-mo dramatic of you dissolving into flames for your death.

EXCELLENT BLOODY IDEA.

Not only fun, it could spur up a lot of emotions in the player (I know it would for me) seeing his character's corpse abused in such a way. The kind of thing that would make me want to reload AND BANISH ALL THEIR ASSES TO HELL!!!!!!!

Make a thread for it!

This is a great idea! Lol. Getting in a massive fight with a dragon only to be defeated, eaten and thrown miles away would be so damn funny. XD

Seeing as the camera zooms out anyway, a finisher would be nice.

Oh, me too! And it's not even terribly out of place for TES since vampires there do leave piles of ash behind when they die... except no actual visuals of turning to ash have ever accompanied that.

Bursting into flames would be nice, though personally I'd prefer vampires (including the player character) to instantly disintegrate into dust like in Buffy, leaving only charred skeletons behind, still wearing their clothes. That would be absolutely mindblowing!

"Actors" is the actual term used in the editor though.

Anyway, on Topic, some of the killing flourishes in the game really seem like they'll lend themselves to certain play styles. Stealth kills come to mind, with kidney stabs and throat slashes. Practical assassin stuff you know?

What seems more "Style" than practicality though, is things like the Dragonaxe ride in the demo, or the wolfpunt. Take the bad with the good I suppose.

I chose spineless sheep. I like sheep

Finshers on the player eh? Only if you are about to die and their hit will kill you. Only then could I agree with having finishers being used on me.

hasnt this been confirmed? i remember reading that NPCs did perform finishers on you...

at any rate, im for it. its a bit of a double-edged sword though... most of the time a gruesome death gives me a chuckle and makes having to reload not all that bad, but if your already in a bad mood from dying so much, it does the exact opposite and makes me rage further... but as i rarely rage, i think the benefits outweigh the negatives.
