True. I guess I was only paying attention to the Dunmer part and not the prisoner part. But I guess Bethesda could take that formula however they want. They could take the strict route, that the first interaction must be a Dunmer prisoner, or a looser interpretation that it could just be a Dunmer of any situation or just be a prisoner of any race.
Movies that have a sort of formula (like James Bond movies) will often change small aspects of that formula if they want to give the impression of being revisionist or a change from the past. If Skyrim is supposed to be a new step forward for the world of Elder Scrolls, shedding its Morrowind and Oblivion roots, they could set up your early experience to feel like a different kind of Elder Scrolls game (change the Dark Elf prisoner) while still keeping key parts that make you feel like you're still playing some sort of Elder Scrolls game (you are still a prisoner). But this is over thinking it a little, I guess. People have certain expectations of Elder Scrolls, and it's up to Bethesda when it comes to meeting those expectations or changing it up a little.

Or how bout a prisoner revolt? A bunch of the psychopaths cause a riot and start escaping amid screaming blades flashing and fire/sparks everywhere at night? You can take the opportunity to escape and the escapees could be a problem for smaller wall less towns later on and you can choose to help out about it.
There's so many interesting possibilities for the story just in the beginning alone.
