"You're going to die in here! You hear me? You're going

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:39 am

Simple questions. Who do you think our next dungeon buddy will be?
Will he be a Dunmer? Maybe a different race?
Will he be nice like Saint Jiub or an a** like Dreth?
I think whats interesting would be their part in the execution. What if they're the ones you see in your cell first before the guards come for you and he shouts"nice knowing ya!". Maybe he has a plan escape and helps you just before the execution. Or during whatever chaos they escape too. But what could really be interesting would be if he's ahead of you in the execution and we see him get killed first. Sort of to build the terror and suspense of seeing it happen to someone before being put on the chopping block.
What do you guys thinks?

Dunmer seems to be the tradition. The Morrowind one was friendly. The Oblivion one was mean. The Skyrim one? Perhaps a schizophrenic.

I like the idea of him being executed before you. In that case however he should probably be likeable, that would add to it a lot, I think.

Well, considering the circumstances of your imprisonment this time around, I'd assume that this Dunmer may be worried about his own neck. But anything's possible, I suppose. I am hoping we'll get a taste at E3 though.

Perhaps the Dunmer this time around could just be an a**hole of a guard.

Or, as a compromise, manic-depressive. The first quest should be somehow surviving five minutes in the cell until the guards arrive to finally take the PC to their execution.

I liked Oblivion's way of dealing with Valen Dreth :). I would not want my prison buddy to get killed quite so quickly. I think it would be much more fitting for him to insanely mock you right before your head is to be severed and then when all hell breaks loose (or however the story ends up going) he escapes but is tied by possible quests later in the game. I kinda like a little abuse in the beginning. It sets a dramatic tone right off the bat and gives you someone to hate right away.

That could be cool, I'm for it.
But I think it's more tradition for the first guy you see to be a fellow prisoner.

I doubt he'd be a nice guy if we see him getting executed, since it would be building up a hatred for the guards, who aren't really antagonists.

I do think him being some complete psychopath who escapes at the same time you do would be interesting. Maybe he'll go on another killing spree later in the game and you'll have to stop him. :gun:

I don't think it'll be a Dunmer again. I imagine it'll be http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4lrm97dBqNo/TUFlwtX3jCI/AAAAAAAAAY0/L3ZQ1rnHA3g/s1600/artofskyrim_009_prisoner.jpg.

But no one will be able to match Jiub. Saint Jiub! Vanquisher of Cliff Racers! Saint Jiub! Killed by the Daedra!

I dunno but if he is crazy I hope he collects, names and talks to pebbles and sits on the floor uttering "Secret" words to his rocks with his back turned to you like you aren't allowed to hear. Or maybe he hides food in his beard because he is paranoid that you will steal it from him.

True. I guess I was only paying attention to the Dunmer part and not the prisoner part. But I guess Bethesda could take that formula however they want. They could take the strict route, that the first interaction must be a Dunmer prisoner, or a looser interpretation that it could just be a Dunmer of any situation or just be a prisoner of any race.

Movies that have a sort of formula (like James Bond movies) will often change small aspects of that formula if they want to give the impression of being revisionist or a change from the past. If Skyrim is supposed to be a new step forward for the world of Elder Scrolls, shedding its Morrowind and Oblivion roots, they could set up your early experience to feel like a different kind of Elder Scrolls game (change the Dark Elf prisoner) while still keeping key parts that make you feel like you're still playing some sort of Elder Scrolls game (you are still a prisoner). But this is over thinking it a little, I guess. People have certain expectations of Elder Scrolls, and it's up to Bethesda when it comes to meeting those expectations or changing it up a little.

So thats where we keep our inventories, n our beards! Brilliant!

Yeah, if he is crazy, I want him to really feel crazy. It would make him memorable.

If they improve bosmers' personalities the way many are begging, an "adoring fan" ahead of you in line would be a nice touch!

Also, can anyone confirm a "dungeon buddy" in the pre-Morrowind games?

totally didn't know that Jiub was canonized for going on a genocidal rampage against the cliff racers. I'm going to have to check to see if he says anything about them next time I play Morrowind.

So in an interview I was listening too earlier it says that not all prisons are the same in the game. What if your licked in a cell with three other criminals and all of them are unique in there own way

I think it would be a good idea that when you see him get executed before you it gives you the opportunity to save him. He could even help you later on in the game, like give you a quest or train you in a skill. Maybe he could have some sort of back story, like he's in jail for a crime he didn't commit, which (depending on your character) would change your view on him before you decide what to do with him.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already :/
