Do you guys bother the INI file?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:25 pm

I play NV with some INI tweaks and sure it has come to show that it improves performance and all, but everytime I play a DLC or anything that shows the "slides" like the start/end of the game/DLC it stops. Not freezes but stops.

Now I made backups of the INI so I replaced it and VOILA! it worked.

Now am I the only one that makes the simplest tweak to the INI have problems with it? Do you guys just leave it alone? Its a shame I have to do this to get past the cutscene "slides" and revert back to my tweaked INI

Also I cannot figure out WHY it does it. I thought maybe the memory tweaks, so I reverted them back to their default, and yet it still does it.

So ya, who has problems like me, and why, and.......well ya Im just confused

Just glad I backed up a very clean INI file :D

Opinions?

Most .ini tweaks are unnecessary & can possibly cause more problems then they solve - altho of course this is highly individual & varies from system to system. The only one's I've messed with are view distance (I increase them even more than default max) and setting some of the threading/background options to On (haven't actually altered the Havoc Threads setting tho, I don't seem to need it). Never had a problem with just those.

If you haven't already, you can try this utility for making the .ini tweaks easier. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40442

But like you did/discovered, always keep a copy of the original ones somewhere just in case! :)

Also I just tried something for the heck of it.

You know I said that it would "stop" when i use my modified INI? When you mentioned the backround loading tweaks, I went to my tweaked INI, replaced it with the "default" INI I used to get through the "slide" cutscenes, but turned the backround loading back to normal.

I wonder if thats what was going on

one time i bothered it, i opened it's door without knocking and it was doing some fairly risque stuff.....since then i've learned to leave it alone

Whats weird is that (And from experience) the Fallout INI (Both NV and FO3) get all loopy if I touch the INI, and yet TES games (Both Morrowind and Oblivion) I have tweaked like no one's business, and no INI related flaws from both of them at all.

So all in all, I may leave the Fallout's INI alone and only play with the TES INI :D
