Do you guys experience any FPS drops?

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 8:15 am

I do not own a console so I can't verify myself. I just wonder if FPS drops in Boston are a thing in consoles as well, I've read a few reviews here and there but it's not quite clear whether FPS drops are to be expected or it's something happening only to people with either defective consoles or defective game installations. Also, is there a way on XB1 to check at how many FPS the game is running?

oh almost forgot, do consoles have a way to change the graphics settings? I'm friggin ignorant I know

ON the Xbox 1 you are likely going to get some points where the game will stutter for a brief second. I have not had any major issues except for the brief second where the FPS will go down. I have not played for a couple of weeks since I am a bit burnt out on Bethesda's games for the moment. I will return when I get the urge to play a Bethesda game I just do not know which one it will be since it might depend on which mood I am in and the season. Winter is usually Skyrim or Northern Oblivion.

I do not check what the FPS is running at since if you look at the numbers you will notice more the FPS. If you are not paying that much attention you likely will not notice it as much unless it does that stutter.

Loading screens can take quite some time.

If you have an external hard drive you might get a bit better performance on the screen loading as well less stutter.

I see. How about graphics settings? Are they hardcoded or can be changed at will?

You do not really have that many options for graphics except for pip boy colors and such. No option to adjust the resolution, shadow qualities or lighting.

Consoles are locked at 1080p@30FPS and it likely has been optimized the best it can be for a game like this to run at that setting so some places it might limit a texture quality or reduce the shadows on lighting or something like that.

Console games for the most part never give you options to adjust major graphic settings. They might allow adjusting the gamma settings and that is about all.

Yep...it happens in certain areas and some inside buildings.

Right outside Goodneighbour seems to be the most unstable area, at least for me.

Ah yes that area in particular is a framerate killer, I made some tests and found out that it's not due to be a very crowded area: disabling the AI doesn't have any benefit on FPS. It appears it's heavy on the GPU mainly due to a ridiculously high polygon count.

I was wondering if it was anything to do with the enemies or not. It always seems like every faction is around there, I always assumed them all engaging each other caused it.

Maybe it's the amount of buildings that can be entered? There's a lot of discoverable locations crowded around that particular area.

Ever since the newest patch for Xbox One I almost don't have any FPS drops. I use a 7200 RPM Toshiba 1TB external HDD with Fallout 4 so that could be why. I also have the older 2014 Assassins's Creed Unity bundle 500GB Xbox One model, that could be why as well. I've heard a lot of the newer Xbox One models have hardware issues at least according to the Xbox One support forums. This may not have any effect on Fallout 4 though.
