Do you guys hate Oblivion?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:55 pm

Note: Ignore this, if it doesn't apply to you. It probably doesn't. Or does. Depends. Also, when I say "you guys" or "a large part of the community" I do NOT mean everyone on this forum! I mean the people I'm speaking to, and they should know who they are... Hopefully.

From what I've read recently, and I've just joined this forum, it seems like it to me... Every time there is a TES V thread I always hear the typical line: "I hope they bring back the [INSERT SOME FEATURE HERE]" to TES V, just like it was done the perfect and right way in Morrowind. Seriously, Oblivion way of doing it really svcked". I mean, Oblivion IS an amazing game, and I am proud to say that it is, in MY opinion, equal to Morrowind (Only played the first dungeon of Daggerfall then couldn't start it again (Technical issues)... so I basically haven't played it). I understand that you guys have your opinions, which I deeply respect, but for Talos sakes... give Oblivion a break! Its like everyone hates it, just for the fact that its simplified and more accessible to less RPG orientated players... That's the feeling I get anyway. And you know what's the funniest thing? That 90 people took 4 years of their life making this game. Before complaining about Oblivion, think of how an average Bethesda employee would feel reading your post, because they do read our posts. And if you can't, Imagine that you're that employee reading those posts... Would you be happy with a large part of your community bi***ing about a game that you treat as your own child? Ohh and before going "I don't hate Oblivion, I just don't like some of its features" bear in mind that if you sound like you hate it, it makes NO difference. Also, please don't hate me for this topic, I'm new and I mean no harm :)

On a sidenote, could someone point out a version of Daggefall that I could install on my PC without all the DOSBox-ing (It over confuses me)? I'd be really grateful. Thanks! ;)

Why would anyone hate a video game? lol
I love OB, not as much as MW, but it's an amazing RPG.

No- I found some things disappointing- which have been hashed out long ago.... And, having said that, Oblivion is an amazing game.

No, 'we' just prefer Morrowind and some people like to exaggerate.

I really like Oblivion, but it has it's faults. Of course so has Morrowind.

I don't think anyone really hates the game, as much as they prefer how another game does particular things. I'm not going to give particular examples since that it is likely to invoke a flame war, but some things the previous TES's have no equal to e.g. no one can argue that any of the other TES games had a map as large as Daggerfall's or that Morrowind had more joinable factions than oblivion. One of the largest factors involved is which game was played first, your first impressions of a game is what dictates exactly what your perspective of the rest of the series will be like, both before that particular game and after. (props to whoever said that a few days ago) The way a person voices their complaints makes no difference, a negative opinion is a negative opinion, and Todd himself said that he appreciates those opinions because that is what influences how the next game in the series will turn out, in fact, if you look at Oblivion in retrospect, it is the culmination of all the negative comments about Morrowind, horses, fast-travel, and alot of other stuff were the result of complaints, and before you say it, yes in the same way.

When you get right down to it, its someone's opinion, just like you have an opinion that Oblivion was amazing. Some people just like other things, and that can sometimes help a game, the complaints that came out from Morrowind helped to more than double the fanbase, so you can't really say that negative is all that harmful ^_^

Lets see, what else...have a http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg since you're new, welcome to the forums, and here's your first 100% gaurantee that this thread will be locked because it can incite a flame war. Have fun on the forums :D

To me Oblivion is a soulless shell of a game that made me believe it would be a worthy successor to Morrowind, and it wasn't. Sorry, I'm one of those people. I don't mean to offend anybody with it, that's just how I feel.

The arguments are all extremely old by this point and I don't feel the need to repeat them.

Whilst we normally have topics like this in the TES General forum, they generally end up as flame wars with people getting into trouble with the moderators.

The opening poll does not bode good for a happy progress in this thread. So, let's just say that some prefer Oblivion, some Morrowind and others are happy to take each game as it comes.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112073-morrowind-vs-oblivion/ have a read through - it reached post limit and we don't want any more like it for the time being.

Thanks for understanding.
