Do you guys think it is ''okay'' to start a new game..

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:59 pm

...if you haven't finsihed the MQ with another character?
I know loads of people play their games like this: Start character, become best at everything, finish game and then get every artifact/rare in the game.. I am one of those who don't play that way, i like to create new characters and explore the different playingstyles and races! I recently made a mage that i leveled to 20 and i have yet to meet the grey beards(i did that on another character), i had a lot of fun actually but now i'm planning on starting a stealth argonian again :P I just love it!
But the question is, is there any other than me who does this too?

Why would it not be okay? The entire point of having an open world is to do what you want with it. I personally am creating a character to complete the main quest and do every side story- once as a thief, a mage, a stormcloak, an imperial, etc.

Play the way you want to play.

Dude, I got 270 hours into the game and I started over many many many times. And I still haven't finished the main quest. Hehe, I'd say, go right ahead.

yes
I have 3 characters so far
a mage
a warrior
and now I'm playing a thief

none of them has gotten past level 40 or finished the main quest
planning on continuing them though I think
having too much fun as thief atm
one of the best part is building a character IMO

I've played many, many hours on several characters, and I've never completed the MQ.

The farthest I have gone into the main quest is up to Diplomatic Immunity. Out of 8 total characters, each one hit at least level 22 and only one made it that far into the MQ

Hi. My name is Rand-E, and I am addicted to re-rolling. Seriously. It's a problem. I've probably played at least 150 (hours, but almost as many char's) so far, and haven't leveled a character past 15.

I did just recently delete all my multis, and create one dedicated character that I felt like I could spend some time with. Breton Rogue. It feels good.

And it feels good to share.

Frankly its the ONLY way to appreciate the game properly in my opinion.

A "do all" character with no motivations other than "complete" is a poor substitute for a character with their own motivations, and very few "characters" would join every guild and complete every quest.

Definitely worth having a new character. Its okay to start a new game.. because thats what you want to do, don't be beaten into fuzzy thinking that games are there to be beaten, and instead focus on enjoying the atmosphere of the game with a character that makes sense in the world.

I really wanted to start a new character, starting at about lvl 20... But... (oh god) my wife wouldn't let me. She was into the main story and wanted to see how it ended before she'd let me start any new characters. I respected her opinion because she has to sit there and watch, it the least I can do to make it interesting.

It's fun at first. After a few runs it can be tiresome and predictable though. Also, with 200-300 hours of content I can't imagine more than 1 complete play through.

I run a Tri-brid Warrior/Mage/Thief and get to experience all the content with one character. Though Skyrim is great fun and adventure I prefer to progress my real life over several alts.

My wish would be the ability to creat a premade character equal to your highest level character. That way you really could try everything without all the restarts. As I said before the game is a substantial time commitment without rerolling at all.

No, no, people, HE DOES NOT HAVE FUS RO DAH.

You're missing out. Skyrim without Fus Ro Dah is like playing Star Wars without the Unrelenting Force.

I think I have about six characters now. I like to create different builds and explore the game in new ways for example by completing quests differently and joining other factions.

Personally I don't like playing through the same quests more than once, so I'm putting everything into my first character and will explore everything with him.

The only reason I'd do a second character is because my main is a good guy and he won't be doing thieves guild, magic or DB. I might go do all that with a second character, but not until I've seen everything with my current.

Play the way you want to play.

I wish i could play how i want to play
Im on my 3rd character i made..

First one was made at launch and so much [censored] was broken in the game world ( thieves guild/companions/civil war/dragons/npcs )

Second was about a week and a half ago.. dragons dont drop souls, I advanced after the 2nd thieves guild mission only for the 3rd one not to start NPC's still dont give quests and i completed civil war for cloaks.. and half of white run is inaccessible.. i cant enter shops, people are stuck inside permanently due to the blocks.. i cant complete companions due to the place being locked.. even the back door

3rd character was started yesterday and only for the soul purposes of trying to do the thieves guild.. got to the point where i need to get into east empire to follow the lizard.. broke.. he never shows up.. and my auto saves are me going in and out trying to find him

im having a horrible experience with this game..
truly..
plus i cant find dragon/dedric armor/weapons any where my first guy was lvl 60ish, 2nd was in mid 20's and my new orc is fresh lvl 7
I dont know what im doing wrong too.. with the 1st guy i totally ignored MQ and just explored skyrim for about 30 hours clearing dungeons and stuff..
second guy i didnt do MQ and guilds with little to no exploring other then where the guild quests send me

and with my final guy i only went to rifted and where the thieves guild sent me and it wont work

Dunno what im gonna do now.. i thought of taking it back to game stop.. but i wont get my full 60 back.. I think i might just forget about it for a couple of months..

I like to make several characters too! Making the characters is an enjoyable process in the game for me...making it just so to fit your purpose, or! accidentally making one that makes you think "hmmm this character looks like she'd be a great alchemist..." Character born! I like to do one for the mages stuff, one stealth/thief/assassin, one hero for the main quest (usually my archer, I don't know why), and etc.

I remember one guy who made a monk in Oblivion and all he did was have him visit the temples and cities, and mostly avoid fighting when possible. A peaceful game for him, I think.

So do what you like. If you like making one do-it-all character, great. For me that kind of doesn't fit my idea of the game. What good hero who did the entire main quest would then go be an assassin for the Dark Brotherhood? I can't get past that unless it's a good-hero-gone-bad storyline, which I guess some folks like to do too. Since I enjoy creating characters, and want to play them all, it fits for me better to make one for each main section of the game.

Many people never complete the MQ in Beth's games (or many others, for that matter). Beth's games are about exploration and discovery, not completion, so that's fine. You're actually playing the game more of the way that the devs intended. Many people prefer to focus on the character development process.

Thats fine,

My First Character was a pure mage, only completing the first couple of MQ quest then the college Quests.

My second and current is a typical Nord 2 handed heavy armoured warrior that I plan to do the MQ, companions and Stormcloaks.

Then will be a Dunmer Assassain copleting the Dark Brotherhood and as many side quests as he comes across

After this I will start to roleplay the characters more.
