do you guys use true iron sights?

Post » Sun Jul 12, 2009 11:05 pm

........
1. Many weapons do not have sights, which would make them incredibly difficult to aim.
2. Many weapons that have sights are inaccurate with no way to adjust them.
3. Some sights are uselessly vague (frex .357 revolver; some pistols in Borderlands have the same "double block" sight picture, who the heck thinks this is a useful system to aim with)
4. There is no way to change the type of sights that a weapon has, so you cannot swap out your long range peep sight for a close range notch and post setup.
5. Many sights take up huge portions of screen real estate which hurts situational awareness.

I tried the game with iron sights on, and ultimately decidedly it was better off.

/Face palm
I am sorry I can't help it

1. I cannot re-call "many weapon" not having sights....or are you counting melee and unarmed?
2. Ok, so there is the SMGs and.......the SMGs?
3.Aside from the screw on Caravan Shotgun which does have a steep learning curve, I don't thing any of them are difficult; "double block" is very real world I have difficultly do understand how you can't aim with it when everybody does, in real world.
4......you can STOP holding the the button for aim if it such a problem.
5.Please bear me  You walk around holding down the aim button or something?

Iron sight introduce great amount of immersion for me (also does in Borderland).

Most energy weapons?

Yeah I use sights. Can't live without them. With background from Arma2 milsim, it's unavoidable.

It's just a shame that iron sights weren't implemented better. The iron sight mod for Fallout 3 is better than Obsidian's effort. I get the feeling they were a last minute addition, hence no animations.

As somebody pointed out: energy weapons.. Those that do are often very clumsy.

>> 2. Ok, so there is the SMGs and.......the SMGs?

How much time have you spent with the hunting rifle? The actual point of impact is off the right corner of the front post, not in the center. This is one example. It is not a *big* mistake, but it's a mistake, and results in misses at mid to long ranges that should have been hits if the weapon's sights were correct. (You can verify this by shooting at a blank wall with the hunting rifle. Take some Steady first to eliminate sway.)

>> 3.Aside from the screw on Caravan Shotgun which does have a steep learning curve, I don't thing any of them are difficult; "double block" is very real world I have difficultly do understand how you can't aim with it when everybody does, in real world.

It's difficult to aim with the double block sight because it has no clear center. No clear reference mark. The front sight is barely even visible, it's just a sliver. This not a good sight picture for either speed or accuracy. At least for me. If this works for you, hey, I'm happy you're happy. The topic wasn't about finding the cosmic truth about whether iron sights were good or not, it was whether we use them or not. And I don't because I think they're more trouble than they are worth.

And since you brought it up, personally I've never seen any real world firearm equipped with a sight picture that is just two solid blocks. In my own experience most sights are a rear notch and a front post, or a ghost ring with a front post (or a front post alone, on a lot of shotguns). Please link to the real world examples of this kind of double block sight that I have overlooked.

So do you try to use iron sight on Gatling Laser? or is it incinerator? Laser Rifle/Pistol are the only ones should have an iron sight and not given one.

Compensate for it? just imagine there is always wind blowing from left to right. I find out about it while using Varmint Rifle and compensate for it, until I got the correction animation replacer.

To an extant, the "off" sight is easier to use because you put your target on the right of the front sight.

Revolvers. although modern ones likely have neon colour instead of "silver".

I use iron sights more than VATS because of my skill with iron sights, I love using iron sights over the stupid aiming in in Fallout 3, it was completely inaccurate.
Iron sights in FONV changed everything because of my love for iron sights. I adopt my iron sight skills from playing too much CoD.

I <3 sights. One thing I really disliked about the laz0r/plashmah guns on my Energy playthrough was the lack of sights. Except the Thommy Laser.

Also, can somebody align the Hunting Rifle sights please? They are thick, ugly, and are horribly inaccurate.

There is a set of correction animation on Nexus, I am should you will find it.

Meanwhile, you can put the frontal sight on the left of your target to compensate.

Iron sights are great. Some of them really obstruct your view (like the cowboy repeater) and others make it slightly difficult to see where you are aiming (.357 magnum), but I don't think of that as a bad thing. It's just one more thing to consider when choosing your weapon. Besides, with some practice/testing most problems with iron sights can be overcome.

Yes, but the peep sights desperately need DOF. As they are, I can't stand to use them.
