do you guys use true iron sights?

Post » Sun Jul 12, 2009 6:51 am

i personally think that they should have never added iron sights at least with NV because the graphics in this are not so pretty close up. i was so pumped when i was playing NV for the first time and when i was handed the varmit rifle to shoot the bottles i was disappointed on how unpretty the iron sight looked. also i found it somewhat difficult to use the iron sights on moving enemies, note i don't svck at shooting guns in other games. anyways am not bashing NV am just pointing this problem so that he an employee from Bethsda fixes this problem in the next Fallout game if there ever is one

I use the gun sights more than I do Vats unless I'm recording. I use melee more than guns when I'm alone anyway.

I seem to have no trouble aiming using iron sights. Not like in Fallout 3 (shudder), where you were forced to use V.A.T.S. pretty much every time, due to lack of iron sights.

eh, Iron sights and fast moving targets never really agreed with me. it obstructs your view most of the time. I seem to be doing more and more 3rd person cross hair aiming for some guns who's iron sights drive me crazy.

Nope.
I used it a lot while tweaking my http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1oOltRjGZo (the projectile has to be aimed high because its heavy. The shot arcs across a room).

I always use iron sights. I totally gave up on vats as I am more accurate than vats ever has been. Vats will miss but I can time it right and get a hit. FO3 was ok but just zooming in without iron sights just wasnt that good for me.

As far as iron sights not being included, no one said you had to use iron sights. I recall theres a selection under options to turn iron sights off.

I turned true iron sights off at around level 4. I just found that the aiming mechanism on most guns just obstructed your view of what you were supposed to be shooting at. Some guns were fine, but most just resulted in me aiming in the direction of the enemy and firing blindly behind the barrel of my gun, just hoping that the gun was at the right height to hit the target. I'm glad that it was included as a new feature, but it just wasn't for me.

Yeah sometimes I go for the irons, I think it was a great addition as FO has gone the way of the shooter. Mostly use it for the rifles, love the brush gun. Grab a few high res textures for your guns and it looks as good as any other shooter ;)

But to be honest I mostly play it in third person, just wish they had done it as a completely separate method than the calculated VATS as the "roll to hit" thing makes for some weird looking bullet curving.

i would have added high res textures if i had a decent pc that could run NV am on 360 btw

Nope I find it pretty cumbersome. I honestly prefer Fallout 3's sights. But to each their own.

I turned off my crosshair after a few days of playing and started using ironsights. After using it for the last few months nonstop, I'm getting pretty good at it, however, there are times that I find it's just not practical for me to use them; such as when I'm outnumbered by enemies while in close quarters. Aside from that, it's strictly ironsights here.

Actually I was referring to That Gun, but you're right, the Cowboy Repeater is particularly badly affected by the iron sights view. I tried quite a few weapons out with it and just found that it wasn't for me. The Service Rifle and Brush Gun work quite well with iron sights, the only trouble being that the former is not that powerful and the latter can only be found in the late game stage, at which point I had long since given up on iron sights anyway. :)

There is actaully a really awesome mod for FO3 to use iron sights, I don't know the name off hand but it's a big mod and wonderfully done!

@mike c
I too am a big fan of the Brush Gun!

If you know the Mod, let me know, as i would like to have it as well.

As for the topic, Yes, it is one of my favorite features about NV, and it allows me to dispense some sweet justice that way.

Thats why I typically dont use energy weapons, most of them dont even have ironsights, and the ones that do some of them you cant even aim with due to all the vacuum tubes restricting your view. Not to mention I typically dont put much skill into the energy weapon skill in my play throughs, I focus mostly on survival, repair, science, and guns.

The most popular mod I know of that features iron sights for FO3 is http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6938.

I really think the iron sight feature was a good improvement to FONV, and I used the mod linked above when playing the FO3. Its really not that difficult to aim with them in my opinion. The only iron sight that I hate is for the cowboy repeater.

Yes, I do use true sights.
While some guns don't work very well with it on, most of them do imo.

I use iron sights. I would like it if they used peep-sights more though.

I actually like the cowboy repeater's sights though.

Hold on a sec, the only "bullet" that should produce a curve within NV combat distance is .44 special.

I do, I was just about to make a thread about whether or not anybody used FO3's little zoom-in thing. I thought nobody would use that ever since the real aiming was added.

Indeed. Find some numbers on the muzzle velocity of some bullets and apply gravity to it (9.8 m/s^2). That should give you "proper" combat distances if you're going to do something like that.

Pretty much the same.
If I'm running tests or making screenshots or vids not so much though.
That and if I fancy trying 3'rd person which is quite fun without the crosshair.
