You guys want more aquatic enemies?

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 7:41 pm

There definitely needs to be more aquatic enemies and more aquatic areas. We have Argonians that can breathe underwater indefinitely and there really weren't many places where that was very useful in Oblivion. I liked finding hidden, underwater places in Morrowind.

I looked in back of every waterfall I found in Oblivion hoping to find a hidden cave and unless I missed it, I never found one. I'd like to find that in Skyrim. :)

They need a leviathan dragon
a water dragon for a water boss fight with your water weapons and water breathing spells and water loots.

No, I don't want more. I hate aquatic enemies. Most magic doesn't work underwater, and melee fighting is a pain. It's just a hassle and an annoyance to fight things underwater. I hate it in pretty much every game.

Also, underwater dungeons? Not everyone is an Argonian.

worst agrgument ever. if theres no aquatic dungeons or aquatic fighting the argonian ability to breath underwater becomes pointless. if you didnt take argonian as a race adjust and get a magic item or a spell to breath underwater. do you think everything has to be available easily to everyone? i think choices have to be meaningful and it seems you dont want so.

Real, and that's what I was thinking. It would really be perfect for this game.

Here's a video of it. Just imagine this thing moving really fast and chasing the player underwater. I know I'd be scared to dive in.

that is fricken crazy i want that in Skyrim

No, but from the polls here most people will be or at least try one.

I think underwater dungeons are a great idea as well as more general things to do underwater. It'd be a waste to have all that water and nothing interesting to do with it.

Skyrim doesn't have that much water that it would be worth it, but I do want to see different types of water enemies. I hope the alive waters mod from oblivion would make it straight to vanilla skyrim, with a lot of different fish swimming around. Maybe add ice sharks somewhere.

I'm not so sure that its not a design goal. :(

I would prefer that an underwater dungeon exist, or at least underwater areas exist where some paths cannot be taken without extended [even extensive] time spent submerged, and those paths being impassable to those PCs that cannot manage the journey.

** IMO underwater combat should drastically affect breath retention; in some cases cutting it in half, and possibly reducing it when struck by opponents.

I know I certainly do. The water areas of Oblivion were practiclly empty apart from the occasional slaughterfish and the OP mudcrabs in it. But they should definitely put in aquatic Dreughs (spelling), underwater dungeons, better underwater treasure chests with some sort of cool unique loot and maybe more varieties of the super-cool Mudcrab.

Any thoughts? the occasional quest underwater to kill unique creatures would rock too.

Aquatic dragons which breathe underwater (a la Aliens).
Instead of fire, they gush steam.

Dat would be quite awesome.

That's the point; you're outside your element and thus handicapped, giving underwater environments the potential to make challenging areas. I love the idea of aquatic dungeons by the way, or cave systems that have underwater entrances only.

I'd say yes, but then totally regret it when the game forces me into an underwater quest and I'm [censored]ting it because of that Kracken I know is lurking around.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs I WANT IT!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!! there was too little of underwater opponents in morrowind, there were no underwater opponents in oblivion (come on you don't count slaughterfishes as opponents, they're annoyances more like) sea serpents and krakens and different kinds of fish sharks, bring back the horkers! seals, whales, give us all of it!!!

You are forced to do a particularly unavoidable quest? In TES??

edit: to be back on the original topic, oh yes, a nicely realized horror in the depth is something that I've always wanted in TES. Good to hear that they said there will be hidden secrets underwater as well, so more effort than before in the department of the underwater adversaries is very likely for now.

In one of the developer videos there's a part of a Walrus artwork... I think that pretty much confirms them to be in the game.
I don't quite like aquatic enemies, but some kind of polar bear that can attack you even if you go under water would be cool.

I'd LOVE underwater enemies.

For me the whole tough combat underwater just adds to it. And its unlikely, but I'd HATE compulsory underwater parts just as much.

I think unique treasure, locations and enemies to protect them should only be encountered by those ready for it.

Also, just to agree with what a lot of people have said, I'm always a bit nervous of going into water in games, even though I KNOW there won't be anything there.

For once I hope someone changes that.

I remember that in half-life there was an alien version of shark. It was extremelly lethal and I was always scare of entering water thinking that one of those creatures could be there. I would love to recover this fear to the water in Skyrim.

wow your a conservative. Maybe argonians are the only ones who can get that treasure. Perk? If you dont want to fight the animals then don't.

MOST of us want more creatures in the water because we felt the water in OB was just a filler and not really useful.

I really hated getting attacked all the time in Morrowind/Oblivion by a random slaughterfish. I might like a very rare difficult enemy, like a Shark, but this enemy would only be found if you were swimming across a lake for awhile and he would be pretty difficult. But overall, I don't want more aquatic enemies. I would like more aquatic life though, just fish that are afraid of you.

Edit: I do want a really giant enemy fish, like a Loch Ness Monsterin the biggest lake in Skyrim, because I want to be swimming across the lake and either see a giant shape moving through the water towards me, or just have my guy get pulled underwater. That would be awesome, and then if you were really good you might be able to defeat it.

The whole "not everyone is an Argonian" argument against more underwater action is pretty moot in a game that includes water breathing spells and enchantments. It would just take a bit longer for people who play human characters like myself.

Besides, I think that any of the creatures we've suggested in this thread would devour a low-level argonian easily anyway. Being able to breath underwater doesn't equal survival.

I sorely miss my aquatic adventures in Morrowind, where I found submerged Daedric or Dwemer ruins, or went deep inside underwater complex grottoes and caverns full of aquatic life.

It got even better after installing a mod by the modder Abott, which added a lot more different fishes and life to the underwater environment.
