If You Had To Pick Between

I'd have to go with anime. Done by the right studio, with the right writing and right visual style guidance behind it, *coughMKcough,* it could be deep and moving and immensely enjoyable. Whereas live action live action, to me, generally tends to fall flat when exploring grossly alien concepts with truly unique perspectives and aesthetics.

And a big "lolwut" to all the angsty anime-hatred displayed towards purportedly automatically angsty anime. C'mon, people, it's not automatically DBZ by the medium. I guess Watchmen's Tales of the Black Freighter was angsty BS too, eh?

Seriously, I'd give you cake if I had any. I agree with this statement 100%, on all points. Just adding to it, 1 =/= whole. And saying that it only does when applied to certain media makes no sense. Seriously, not every NBC show is The Office, not every western animated show is Batman, not every anime is Angsty. Or over the top action.

I point again to the public medium ignorance I posted above. Seriously, since video games are often a victim of this, it's hard to believe I'd find it on a video game forum.

EDIT P.S.: Tales of the Black Freighter was awesome. Seriously, they could have just done that and it would have been good. But having it part of the deconstruction of the Superhero genre was an added bit of badassery.

If you got together a team of anime artists who weren't complete tools, and actually knew what it was that they were doing, I think an Elder Scrolls anime (with close observation by Bethesda) could be very well done. It would also be easier to duplicate magical effects, and things like the Shehai (which doesn't appear in the games) with animation than with live action.

They'd just need talented artists and the right voice actors is all.

TES anime film done by Miyazaki? He's done enough fantasy things to pull it off correctly.

Live action just cause I'd be able to watch it on the big screen. Cause chances are if it was some Japanese anime then it would most likely end up a straight to video movie.

Now that's something I hadn't thought of. It's be just like the Halo anime shorts they did. Although being a movie doesn't necessarily mean it would go to the big screen, but then again, it would have to REALLY REALLY svck.

That's true, but I guess I'm lucky there, I haven't seen a movie in theaters since 2008, so it wouldn't effect me much if it was straight-to-DVD. And if it was a miniseries, then it would be to-DVD by nature, right?

No, most miniseries (like those from HBO) are shown on a channel (like those from HBO).

I would bring up the really old Morrowind Movie Cast page here, but it's gone apparently. :violin:

I would far prefer a live action movie, although the idea of either one makes me cringe.

I'd like it to be live action BUT I don't think this sort of genre i.e. swords and sorcery translates well to film. This includes the Lord of the Ring trilogy (in my opinion). Because of this I'll have to side with Anime, CGI would also be interesting.

I'd say animation, if only because it would be more practical for bethesda. Though MK would have to be leading the artistic direction of an animated TES movie.

I think it should be a live action film if to be anything. And I would hope they stay true and accurate to the story in the videogame.

I think that more can be done with an Anime than live action. and lets not get confused there are serious anime(like the movie ghost in the shell) as well as light hearted anime(hamtaro). i bet a failure to realize this point is the main reason why some people here instantly reject the idea of an anime adaptation.

Why must it be Anime (referring to the Japanese-invented style of cartoon animation)? Why is a simply animated adventure out of the question. I believe that it would be extremely difficult to represent the aesthetic choices of Tamriel using live-action, even with copious amounts of CGI. However, I do not think an 'Anime' style would complement the universe either, but I would be well behind an animated feature or full-length set in the Elder Scrolls universe.

Honestly, I can go with Marukhati on the idea that it should be animated in general if it ever happened. There are really two specific reasons why I figured anime over any others:

1. Personal aesthetic. For whatever reason, when I visualize the events in an in-game book and even the novel, it winds up looking somewhat anime-ish. No idea why, it just does. Obviously, that's not the case for everyone, it wouldn't surprise me if I was the only one to have this line of thought.

2. Animation Age Ghetto. If a mother is thinking "What's a movie to take the kids to?" and they see an ad for an animated fantasy, they'll probably think it's along the lines of Shrek. Then you have a bunch of angry parents calling in, complaining about the six and violence corrupting the youth, blah blah blah because they saw animated and didn't think to look at the rating (which would have to either be VERY PG-13 or R). If it were an anime, people would likely not automatically assume it was safe for kids, and Bethesda could dodge the proverbial bullet.

Just a few more cents in from me.

I'm not a huge fan of the Japanime style. But a animated TES movie or series would be pretty sweet.

I do love me some live action though especially if it was done to the standards of say Lotr.
So to answer your question Live action.

Anime, as it could be ongoing.

Also, you guys do realize that "anime" isn't a singular style right?

Probably not.

All the anime hate is unfounded, knee jerk BS.

I hope that if any TES type show/movie is made it will only ever be anime. Jz because.

Anime. At least with anime the graphics can be made to look a bit like the games, but with live action you have to use CGI for the non-humans and all the creatures so it'll just look ridiculous.

This but the anime should be gritty though.

This topic is sort of like: "Which would you prefer, a nail driven into your eye or having your hand crushed by a sledghammer?. Somehow, neither of the choices fall into the "desirable" category.

I wouldn't want a TES live action film, I think that would svck. A TES anime would be OK, it doesn't have to be like (insert anime stereotype), it only means it's drawn and animated japanese style. But why anime? Could be any kind of cartoon, just that most western cartoons I have seen look like [censored].
