Surprisingly, La Longue Carabine.

I was entirely unhappy that I couldn't get it without killing Corporal Sterling, or pickpocketing him, I didn't realize he had it until they moved to Camp Forlorn Hope, so he was almost always surrounded by people, making pickpocketing impossible.

I got over this by spawning it. (PC FTW!)

Carabine's very good at mid-ranged, and even up-close attacks (If you know how to use it), it has a damage value of 35, with a DPS of 75.3. This rifle has lasted me through almost all the DLCs (except Dead Money, which I refuse to do again). Carabine also utilizes .357, which is very common. Though the gun isn't that great when compared to Marksmen Carbines, the Gobi Campaign rifle, or Holorifle, it's still amazing to use with the right perks and a high Guns skill.

If not going through the DLCs, I'd use a modded 10mm pistol. If I'm doing the DLCs as well, then Lucky; it's a little too good, but you need enough oomph to chew through enemy health in OWB and LR. These two are already my go-to weapons, so I wouldn't really be playing differently than I already do.

If I was feeling patient and wanted some real tedious fighting, I guess some boxing tape and excessive use of the ranger takedown, but that gets reeeal boring; I couldn't imagine doing an entire playthrough that way.

For a Legion speedrun (skipped DLCs, avoided fighting in general), I went basically the entire way with a cowboy repeater. It wouldn't cut it in OWB or LR, but aside from those it works as an only weapon.

Alien blaster, unlimited ammo. It's the only way I can kill deathclaws. Otherwise, bumper sword.

Ooh, I'm torn three ways on this one...

First I thought YEAH, SPRTEL WOOD FTMFW!!! But then I have to worry about ammo and repair.

Next I though This Machine. Repair is easy, finding ammo isn't too bad either, nice and reliable. BUT it fires a tad slow for my liking. Good snipey snipey gun but a little too unwieldy up close.

SO: my 3rd gun takes it. The Riot Shotgun. Packs a mean punch, easy to find ammo and repair weapons, fires brutally fast. Glorious gun, wish I'd used it sooner instead of allowing my disappointment in the other shotties cloud my judgement...

Doing a no fast travelling/ no housing, grunt character right now. So i'm enjoying the original Assault Carbine quite a bit. Can't use the GRA version as the grunt perk doesn't effect it.

Plain old laser rifle. Without a doubt.

Probably one of the best weapons in the game based on damage/durability/accuracy/easiness to get.

My bare fist.

It took awhile to do everything, though killing the Legate was rather entertaining.

After messing with it, my choice is now MF Hyperbreeder Alpha. That gun is insane, and you never have to worry about ammo. Talk about travelling light!

This gun is op, and I love it :)

One gun for every situation? Ummm......probably the Survivalist Rifle or the Medicine stick. Both of those are pretty much the two best all purpose guns in the game, maybe not my absolute favorites but they get the job done.

Service rifle. You can kill anything with it. A challenge sometimes, but this is likable, really. Load up with AP, let them fly at the Deathclaws it'll down them, HP for Cazadors, Reavers ect. .223 for anything smaller, at discretion.

Put enough rounds on the target, it'll drop. Go to VATS if it's big and getting close to you, use some chems if it's a boss. You can down it, even if's a Alpha Deathclaw. Just hit it enough.

I consider the All American as just an upgrade of the same concept. Take off the scope assixry, it's just a more damaging service rifle. Assault Carbine, scoped/silenced rifles the same. Just the same idea except with varying perks; more bullets, or more silent, accurate, damaging or longer reaching bullets, ect.
Still a rifle.

There's not an enemy in the game I couldn't slay with the simple old service rifle, good armor and a handful of the right chems.

Well for me I carry a combo of weapons.
anti-materiel rifle for med range hard targets. 100 rounds normal 50 armor piercing.
That Gun for up close soft targets normal ammo or can switch to http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Armor_piercing for hard targets up close. 200 normal rounds, 100 armor piercing.
Fully mod hunting rifle for long range targets does not matter if hard or soft will kill any very easly. 150 Rounds

Based on what I've done so far.....I still stand by my Hunting Rifle with a scope, other mods would be a nice extra but I could plenty with those. It's great for sneaking up on groups and then rushing in close to them (tbh the 5 clip capacity can be annoying at times). I don't think I'll ever get round to using a Sniper Rifle!

Pistols......That Gun or a 10mm (got over 800 10mm rounds :D) but I haven't checked out the bunch of weapons I got stashed.
