Do you have a national dish?

Post » Thu Mar 26, 2015 2:09 am

As per title and do you actually ever eat it, if so how often? I suppose a national dish here in the UK would be roast beef, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and various veg. I cook this about once a month and it always goes down well with the family so how about you, do you rustle up your national dish on a regular basis or is it something you simply never do or don't actually like to eat?

I think for the U.S. you'd have to skip the idea of a National Dish, and go with a State by State thing, or at least a regional view. Because outside of Apple Pie and Hot Dogs/Hamburgers, I can't think of anything that stands out as a national dish for the U.S., but I know there are plenty of regional/state dishes. For example, in Maryland it's Crab Cakes that we are well known for. And no, I don't eat it, I don't like Crabs or Lobsters, bleck. I can barely tolerate shrimp and that's only if they are breaded and fried.

Yes that kind of makes sense, America being such a massive country I suppose each state would have it's own dish. I always associate Texas with steaks for some reason, is that the case in truth?

Very good! LOL. I quite often watch "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives", some of those places that guy goes to create some amazing looking dishes, the show never fails to make me feel hungry.
