In my ideal radiant AI all knowledge of events transpiring during game play would pass manually from NPC to NPC. In order for one town to learn of events in another town an NPC would have to carry the knowledge there.

I also wonder how they could potentially have "wanted" posters for the player character-unless they incorporate a way to automatically generate a "sketch-style" portrait of the player, which could potentially be useful in other areas like a newspaper-type thing as well I suppose-I doubt that Bethesoft would go through that much trouble for something like that, however.

I also wonder how progression thorough the main quest might effect "fame" vs. "notoriety"-it might be interesting if there's a certain chance that a guard might ignore certain crimes if you're famous enough.

I also like the concept of being able to possibly live a "double life" by being stealthy enough with my "sinister deeds". To the public, I'd be known as the brave and heroic Dragonborn. but secretly I'm carrying out assassinations for the Dark Brotherhood and/or just stealing everybody's stuff.

That's the bad element about "Karma" if it tracks everything the player does and makes NPCs react "accordingly" it makes absolutely no sense. I was recently playing Oblivion on the 360 and I'd stealthily killed a couple of people but one guard-type guy was like "I know what you are you murdering scum!"-and I was like "How the hell do you know THAT?!".

I've also thought about the 'double life' thing. It'd be nice to be known as a hero: guildmaster of the Fighters guild, yet without anyone knowing, be a thieving assassin ;)

There needs to be a random redguard guard who looks like Mr T. and trys to arrest you for 'being a foo'

@DJGamer if you are famous and the guard ignores the crime, the family of the victim should hire the Dark Brotherhood or the Fighters guild to attack you

Look at the way Rockstar did it with RDR if you killed some one and some one was near they would run to report it.
But if you killed some one and no one at all was around you wouldn't get caught. If they also have it like fallout your Karma will go down.

I'll post an idea from a previous thread on the subject.

Brands.

Like in medieval times, your character should receive an actual brand on him (preferably on the back of his hand so you could see it all the time or on his cheek) that would mark him as a criminal. Different brands for different crimes. So depending on your brand, and therefore the severity of your crime, people treat you differently.

You could hide it with either armor (hands) or a helmet (face). Maybe even a hood. As long as its concealed, immediate people wont know your a criminal unless your notorious enough.

If you want it completely removed, you could visit a powerful enough mage that could remove the brand in exchange for you completing a quest for him.

That would work.

They should also keep sketches of their known criminals and if you look similar they will question you and maybe take you into custody. Then you could get creative and use masks and stuff but it'll only be convincing based on your sneak skill. If you have a low sneak skill you are going to be caught and put in custody.

But the faults of Oblivion's system makes it hilarious. Look at all the jokes that come out of it! Do you guys really want to take that away?

I'd like if the player had to have a trial for more serious crimes, like murder. Your speechcraft skill would be the deciding factor, along with the degree of your crime, as to whether or not you go to jail. Obviously this would be annoying if it was implemented for every crime, so petty crimes should just warrant an on-the-spot fine.

they should also havde an execution, if you go on a rampage and kill a dozen people, but then again theyd have to catch me, and id become, judge, jury, and executioner and say you can try.

Would have been soo cool to be able to find and bribe corrupt guards, making them look another way when you kill someone

They should also make it that if you committ enough heinous crimes, you get a 'death on sight' warrant
