I think the biggest battle will involve 2. My character and Alduin xD. But all kidding aside it will probably be very similar to Oblivion seeing as though we are still on the same consoles.

Around 25 will be the sweet spot. Although with waves of enemies and reinforcements, there could be hundreds of corpses on the battlefield

Seems 25 is popular. I thought back to the fight outside of Bruma. There were what, 2 guards per town + some Blades there? So 12-15 about on your side, then the enemy came in waves of around 8 or so I think.

Given that one of the reasons BGS put forward for merging top&bottom into just 'armour' was so they can get more on the field, it may be fair to expect 30ish on screen. But I would probably say closer to 25 than 40.

Corpses slow the game down just as much as live enemies do.I know this because while playing in a modded battle, I had to disable NPCs even after they were dead to bring my PC back up to speed.

True, but we don't know how Skyrim actually runs yet, but you are probably right.

im going to go with 25 also. In oblivion the battle of bruma had at least 13 + you on your side. there was deffinately more than 13 on the Deadra side.

Seems like you could get entire towns to fight against a dragon... leaving it with tons of people...

Probably 16-25. However, if we're really lucky, could be more, but DEFINITELY no more than 40.

The achievement where you take one city or another depending on who you've sided with... i'd imagine at least 50 people would be involved with such a thing.

You know how they fused the cuirass and greaves in Skyrim into one item? A benefit of this is less separate processed items and thus the ability to put more characters on the screen.

I think 14 or less... I'd love a 5000 man epic war but it would never happen :-P

My largest Oblivion battle was 15 NPCs (Allies) and me and I'd have to guess that there would be around 3-5 or more Daedra coming out of the 3 Gates at Bruma at a time. When they were slain, most of their bodies disappeared as did any unnamed NPC. I thought it was pretty hectic. I'd expect something more in Skyrim but maybe not that much more. It uses a lot of resources.

16 before the AI processing starts to hog the cpu, of course this depends very much on the power of the cpu, someone could correct me on this, but as far as I'm aware the creation engine is still single threaded.

Wasn't the engine limiting it and not consoles??

I thought the best battles in OB were the ones that involved your character and 1 big, bad enemy. My computer can't take anymore than 8.
