You know you have played too much oblivion when...

Yes I know that this has been been before, but I have always liked them and have gotten a few more. Plus it sure beats doing homework.
First one from a few years ago. While I was Freshman year biology we were reviewing something about cells. We were discussing which scientists had a large effect on the cell as we see it. One of the people's names starts with an L. For the life of me I could not remember it and kept coming up with Leyawiin. To this day I can not remember that man's name.

And now the reason that I started this topic. Today while I was sitting in AP Gov we were learning about the U.S. Supreme Court. My teacher asked if we could name the Nine. I start listing them off to myself. It went something like this...
"Well you have Akatosh, and Dibella and Stendarr, and Talos. Oh and of course you have Maya. Plus there is that one that starts with Z I can never remember that one. Lets see I have 5 that I know off the top of my head with one whose name I can't remember. Who else am I missing?"

It was about this time that I figured out I know more about 9 fictional Gods in a video game, and know more of there back story than of what can be argued as the 9 most influential people in the country.

What are some of your moments that you came to a realization such as mine?

Yes that is the guy. No wonder I keep forgetting his name, it is pronounced with Leyawiin pretty much in his name. But thanks for posting that.

I went to Olympic National Park last summer, and saw a mule deer when I started out on my hike up to Hurricane Hill. I started looking around for a Legion forester (or two) to start crashing through the brush after the darn animal.

Later in the same trip, I went to Glacier National Park, and went for a walk in the woods. I kept looking for Cheydinhal's walls to show through the trees. I was watching for bear and ogres.

Heh, I even thought to myself that the Pacific at Kalaloch Lodge looked an awful lot like the sea off Anvil.

Yeah, I've been playing too much Oblivion.

You Know You've Been Playing Oblivion Too Much When.....

You can identify more plants in game than you can IRL.

You know more about the politics of Tamriel than your own country.

You know more about the history of Tamriel than your own country.

You can give detailed directions from Leyawiin to Bruma but can't give directions to your own house starting from more than a mile away.

You start calling that sword sitting on your mantle an Akaviri Katana.

You open your front door to go outside and are surprised that you don't see a loading screen.

You go outside and think "Whoa! Great graphics!"

You hear a strange noise and think "Uh-oh, it's a (insert creature name here) and I don't have a useful weapon or spell! I'm doomed!"

You consider doing something risky or stupid and think "Well, I'll just reload an earlier save if it goes badly."

You say "By the Nine" when you get exasperated.

You tap your destination on your GPS in order to "fast travel" to it.

You think you can outrun a deer or horse on foot (although this could also be due to the use of...certain substances  )

You think you can swim while wearing a full set of armor and carrying 200 pounds of stuff.

You try to cast a "Light" spell when the power goes out.

You hear someone moving in the dark and try to cast "Detect Life" to see where they are.

You have a collection of swords IRL that rivals what you collect in game (I have 37 swords IRL. I even designed one and had it custom made.)

You start comparing things you see IRL to things you see in game. "That pug looks a lot like an Orc."

You start comparing people you know to NPCs in game. "Sean reminds me of Ida Vlinorman. Always climbing things."

Yeah, I was doing that in the National Parks last summer - oh, that looks like arrowroot, this looks like primrose, etc. I had to stifle an urge to go ingredient collecting!

When you reach to your side to unsheathe your sword.....
When you say "By the Nine!" and quote Oblivion characters
When you pin a piece of paper above your bed with the numbers 1-24 on and slide your finger along to choose how many hours you plan to sleep
When you carry a torch in the dark
When you have memorized every npc's name and know exactly what they are going to say
When you ask people, have you read "Thief of Virtue?" or "Beggar Prince?"

When you watch man vs wild with your friends and say that Bear Grylls is way overrated. All you need to survive in any wilderness is a mortar and pestle, a bow with a few arrows, or maybe a few repair hammers. It doesn't matter if there is snow or anything like that, you can run through the night in your diaper-esqe underwear.

I've seen a lot of these topics but this qoute made me laugh.

The answers can be divided into two types, the ones people really mean, and those that are played for laughs, eg 'when you slaughter every short male with blond hair because they may be the adoring fan'.

I prefer the 'real' ones. Some of mine-

I've got 'Nirnroot Twitch', if I see something green growing near water and rocks I have an involuntary twitch towards it, thinking (for maybe 1/10 second) that it may be a Nirnroot.

I once saw Agramir in a Woolworths store in N London. This may explain why they went bust.

I once turned to walk into a health food shop called Fennel, with the intention of buying some fennel (an ingredient I really needed at the time in game).

I (briefly) thought I saw a packet of frozen spiddal sticks in a freezer cabinet in the Chinese supermarket.

Once, driving along a motorway I was tutting to myself about the bad landscape tiling in the distance, it proved to be a set of posts supporting young trees and their long shadows.

I once, on a clear night, caught myself looking due north for that tiny triangle of bright starts in the Cyrodiil night sky.

That'll do for now. how sad am I?

Well I had my moment when I missed the Cowboys game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
I live in Texas, and you can bet Monday's first topic of conversation was Dallas's Blow Out of the Eagles.
" Man did you see the game ? " every one asked me. I didn't because I got so into Oblivion lost track of the time.
I completely forgot it was on. " No I missed it " I was forced to reply. " YOU MISSED IT !!! WTF WERE YOU DOING TO MISS IT???"

I just couldn't figure out a good way to tell them...

" Well I missed the game because I was running around this dungeon wearing my magic pant's of Elvis ( +50 Majica, I have the shoes too, blue suede of course. )."
" You see I was getting a ton of great loot, and having a blast setting trolls an minotaurs on fire "

They just wouldn't understand.

Should have set the DVR, my bad.

I always identify plants I see by their Cyrodil names, and contemplate whether or not to harvest them. It actually takes me a second to remember that it's not alkanet I'm looking at....
