I actually had the exact same thing happen during one of my abortive attempts, some time back.

Couldn't help laughing at the time. Meanwhile, I'll try to think of other classic signs that [thread title]. :)

I think it's onra's huge heightmap mods that tips the scales. Fortunately they are only Worldspace and Region records, so any conflicts in TES4EDIT is hard to visualize anyway.

Somewhat related, but: Your mod is too big when TES4Edit runs out of memory even with the LAA patch applied. :)

[thread title] when you forget the main quest and even Cyrodiil altogether, and are happy to adventure in (example) windfall instead...

... when for every hiccup and ctds issue that needs resolving takes hours to track down because of the endless web of mods that need to be tested ... again. The result is hours added to what in a smaller install would take an hour to figure out.

... when just staying on top of of daily/weekly updates takes more time than you have available to play.

... when you begin to think of ways to cheat the system such as planning massive mod merging projects.

... when you spend more time thinking about how to 'win' at having a larger load order than you do about how to win the game quests.

... when mod makers are tired of your bug reports because mostly they are mod conflcits that you brought upon yourself in mod greediness.

... when you become annoyed that your real life commitments (yeah those buzz kills) impinge upon your time adjusting load order (and not playing).

oh yeah ...

... if you can answer this question.

... or when your load order is so huge that you don't bother (or it will take too long) looking at it.

Here's one I'm pretty sure is unique to my setup. I know I have too many mods b/c whenever I get a CTD caused by conflict or other error, the whole game actually freezes and I'm forced to manually reboot my computer :brokencomputer: About half the time I can alt-tab out and close Oblivion. The other half of the time, I'm frozen solid with absolutely no way to exit the game or reach desktop. I don't actually have that many mods (relatively speaking). But I do use a lot of big ones that tax my machine to it's limits. Whenever I reach the memory-cap, I get a nice clean CTD. If it's anything mod-related though, Oblivion have mercy on my poor computer :obliviongate: :violin:

Thanks Arthmoor... I do not even make mods and playing has already fallen to that level for me (on the rare occasions that I play...)

Edit: I already have a few test lined up, once I get things up and running again...not to mention the general testing that has to be done after two to three months of updates...

Yes, I've always said that putting a mod list together was part of the game for me too. I consider the process of mod-list-building as a kind of mini-game in itself (character creation is another mini-game). I've invested so much time and effort into putting some of my mod lists together that actually getting into the game was kind of an anti-climix.

In fact over the years I have come think of the games themselves as humongous mods.

It is a huge "mini-game," the kind that you get obsessed with and for which you leave off finishing the "real" game. (As if it were possible to finish Oblivion anyway...)

lol... I've so been there / done that. I've had to open more than one mod in the CS to see what it does after running it for a couple years.

(I wish more modders made use of the Description field...)

Another nail hit on the head. So true...

Good thread!
