Do you LARP?

Post » Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:59 am

I used to do a lot of swords-and-rocks stuff when I was a child. And it was called playing with my friends.

EDIT: So that would qualify as "no".

Yeah, everyone did. (or did they?)

I even had castle/tower which was build from the scratch and it was about 6-8 meters tall with cable bridges and all.

Not my thing, but if it feels good, do it (just apply the same to my weird hobbies).

Indeed.
So, what seperates LARPing from childhood games? More effort is put to them, but hey advlts/teens are always better in doing things.

EDIT: Of course I am not agains LARPing. I'm sure it's a slightly healthier way of spending your days than sitting at the computer.

I haven't for some years, but this year me love is dragging me along with several of our friends and some new acquaintances to this year's edition of the Drachenfest (Dragon's Fair) LARP event. Mind if the video is German, but you can get some nice impressions from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPRXiTAyIys. Still don't know what I'll be going as and thus I've applied for the NPC camp, which is what I always did and will always do when out of ideas. ^_^

I play a lot of DnD, but LARP? No thanks. Although the occasional hot LARPER is alright. Mythical, and a once in a lifetime event (without the internet at least). Other than that. No.

Only slightly.

I would love to show up to one of these things..... with a paintball gun hidden in my tunic!

For shooting people. With paintballs... dirty minds.

once... The LARP club at my school posted it on Facebook and like 200 people attended. Most of them were some girls who had no idea what LARPing was so it was kinda chaotic.

When the cops came a dude dressed as a tiger was fighting a lotr dwarf with a lightsaber...

Of course not, I've got a reputation to maintain! :P I may do something similar to LARPing when I'm drunk though.

"I'm tiny, I'll go in", aw, cute

and, the answer is no

in a land that looks at you as a social deviant when you're over 25 and still gaming, this 'LARP' business would probably make neighbors call people with white jackets on your ass

literally

No,honestly I have no interest in any thing of the sort.

With free beer and turkey I might consider being the wise one who sits in a chair and watches every one else, though.

You know, the retired uber1337wizard dude who eats turkey and drinks beer while [censored]ing about all the n00bs these days.

In Japan anything is possible. No, really. Have you ever been there? Or even seen a picture? It's crazy.

There's an ocean of difference between playing video games and parading in the streets or in a forest.

No, of course not. They haven't balanced Lightning Bolt yet. I went to a LARP once and my friend was killed after 5 players walked towards him, throwing Lightning Bolts at him. How is that fair?
Also: terrible costume design. If you're going to LARP, at least make the effort to look good.
