Do you LARP?

Post » Sat Sep 05, 2009 7:37 am

My friends go to a local LARP gathering every summer. Well this spring they asked me to attend a trial place. Incase you do not know, LARP stands for "Live Action Role Playing" and its actually quite fun. Its where many individuals gather in a offical declared LARP zone and they create their own world. Like the movie Role Models, LARP is actually quite similar to how they portrayed it on the live big screen. I can honestly say I had a blast and will for sure return this upcoming summer for more. How many of you tried LARP? Please if you have, share your stories here.

I've never tried it. I've played a lot of D&D, and I'd love to play it again, it's been years. But that's as far as my roleplaying interest goes, I'm not really worried about embarrasing myself, there's pictures of me online that I am not proud of, but I just don't feel the need to try LARPing. :P

Yeah, I don't think I could do the LARPing thing with a straight face. But I DO love D&D to this day, although nobody I know plays it anymore. And if you enoy it, thats all that matters.

Really LARP can be anything from Medieval to just paintball. I attend a thing for paintball where we renact D-Day so I guess that can be LARP too.

I have never been interested in LARP. I do have my brothers' equipment they used when they went to a few games, which I use for costumes for funny movies. :D

From the screenshots and videos I watched, some people's outfits are really awesome, and could be used in Hollywood's fantasy flicks. I saw a couple of Warhammer 40K's Space Marines, or even Fallout outfits that were simply outstanding work. Those guys making the costumes could easily be hired by producers for movies or theatrical acts, if they're not already.

Yiasemi: You are indeed right. It is the famous LARP video. :D

I've never, ever felt the urge to LARP, and even if I did, I don't think I'd be able to convince my friends to do it. Paintball is one thing, but running around with swords and pretending to use spells on each other is another thing entirely.

But you've always secretly wanted to...right? :hubbahubba:

What? How was I supposed to resist that?

Anything can really be LARP. Im saving money for a HUGE paintball war where we renact D-Day. Its really cool as they have everything from mortars, MG's, Rocket Launchers, paintball grenades, and much more. Too bad it costs so much but its a blast. I'd consider that LARP. LARP doesn't really have to always trace back to swords, spells, ogres, and goblins ;)

I've never tried paintball, but I like more airsoft because it has more authentic feel with proper guns and gear.
But yeah, airsoft games can be set to historical evens such as vietnam war or WW2. But usually we fight in modern setting.

I still have around 60 paintball "bullets" that I'll most likely not use before they blow up by themselves. If we would live close by each other I'd send them over to you so you can win the day! ;)

There was a Fallout LARP in Russia around a year ago, in old abandoned buildings. It looked pretty nice. :)

One of my friends invited me to his Vampire LARP, but I think he might have been trying to get in my pants... anyway, no, never LARPed. Never really wanted to. Secretly thought it might be fun, but I don't think I could take it seriously. Frakking love tabletop RPing, though.

Naw, I never had interest in dressing up and traversing the woods or whatnot in a makebelief world. My imagination isn't the mobile kind. Gathering about the table for a nice tabletop game is much more down my alley. Plus, the toilet facilities are close at hand. :frog:

I've been invited twice or so, but never went. Guess I was intimidated a bit, but overall, I was just happy with P & P. Of course, nowadays I don't do much...well, any, roleplaying aside from computer roleplaying games, so's I don't think I can really say I'm much of a roleplayer anymore. :( Say what you will, but they are still a social activity, with a bunch of friends (or strangers)...I sort of miss the whole thing.

Of course, there's the local gathering once a year which I attend, in hopes that I can join the random game. Always had a blast there, even if it's with strangers.
