DO you like FNV?

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 11:28 pm

really? I think the game looks better than FO-3 did, how is that fail?

Morrowind and FO N.V have more in common then any other thing I can think of. Oblivion hand held you like Fo-3 did.

By level design point of view ...

It is true that the quest characters seem more detaile d, more options ot answer better faction management etc but by the level design it's really poor ....

Most of the interiors looks like Dejavù of Fallout 3 , the exteriors are really crap actually , you do not have the feeling to be in a vast desert or in a desert at all , it mostly looks like the wasteland ....

Here is a picture of shoudl look themojave desert ....

http://my-photo-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/mojave-desert.jpg

http://azfoo.net/places/us50/06_MojaveDesert.jpg

now , this game fails at mainly the landscape feeling ... it feels liek a soprt of small place with some scattered stuff all around you turn and this pseudo arid areas with some cactus around ....

the buildings destroyed have no meaning to be since by the questline the bombs never reached this area .... plus the Actual way they should have done the very same NEw Vegas was something more like ....

This is how a Desert looks like with proper feelingin RDR , even if the game areas aren't that bigger....

Plus they couldhave added vehicles ......

I think that even myself coudl do a better job in this mod for oblivion , even tough it never was completed ....

The villages and city just look like clones more or less of the original Fallout places ... There is not really a feel of WOW ....

that's my opinion at least....

Personally, I have quite a mixed bag of feeling toward NV,
12 Hours into the game so far, and I'm hoping the game would stretch into 60 Hours at least :P, and I'm at camp golf.
First off the game felt almost EXACTLY like FO3 with a new storyline. It just doesn't look "New" enough as a different game from FO3.
However, I do like the larger branch of selection in your actions and quest completion result.
I immediately play on hardcoe mode to wash off the first impression of the game being very similar to FO3, and I still feel the game is very easy when compared to another "nuclear apocalypse FPS/RPG" (I'm not going to point fingers here).
I guess I have to say I expected a little bit too much from hardcoe mode, it still haven't satisfied my "craving" for a punishing game play yet, that other series would still hold my standard for realism and "scavenging for survival".
Bugs are quite common somehow, starting the game can even make the launcher crash for some reason, and then there are lots of times where the textures just went missing... :(
I wished they had a gauge to show your dehydration/hunger level though.
As for weapons, I love the bumper sword :D, I love the 9mm Handgun more than the 10mm somehow, and I've yet to try most of the high tier weapons.

to summarize, there are things I love, and I hate, but primarily I just can't shake off the feeling this is like a re-skinned, recycled FO3... I'd give it a 7/10 for now, I might even barely scratched the surface of this game.

I know some may disagree with me, but this is just my personal opinion :).

Well it is actually harder than the original Fallout IMO.
Once you get accepted into Lost Hills and get the power armor it becomes a cakewalk.

maybe i just svcked at the orginal fallout then

All those great feelings of leaving the vault soon rushed in as I exited the Docs house. So yes, I really like it.

Of course, it will be a whole new experience as soon as I do a hardcoe playthrough later.

I didn't feel like this at all, leaving the vault in Fo3 was way better, you emerge blinded by the harsh light of the sun in an atomic wasteland to find you're looking out over the wasteland with the city in the distance, that was pretty cool. In New Vegas you walk out of a shack on a small hill in podunk Nevada(?) in the middle of nowhere in a freakin desert
I'm not saying the setting is bad or anything, in fact i like exploring the Mojave and Vegas, it's just a little anti-climactic after the awesome intro

Love the voice acting, they are believable characters and I know some has to have had the same voice actor but I have yet to hear the same voice from two people.
In FO3 almost every old guy and old woman had the same voice actor.
So I love the voice acting.

I love the setting, finally it feels like Fallout again.
No more rubble and brown hills and green tint.
But a full blown desert!

I love that they removed the dungeons.
Sure, dungeons was one of the things which gave us so many gameplay hours but still, it feels better.
To know that once I find a house it's just a house is relieving.
In FO3 just about every place had to have a 15 to 30 minute dungeon...
It feels... Realistic somehow...

I love the faction system.
While the game being completely [censored] biased towards NCR it's still nice to know I can choose my sides.

I love dress-up! And Jessup! (Disguising and the character Jessup. :D )

I love Damage Threshold.
Stuff can actually kill me this time around.
I've died tons of times and I play on Normal. :D

I love that companions feel like real peopl.

I love that Settlements make sense.

I love that there is such a huge quantity of quests with such quality to them.

I hate that they nerfed Energy Weapons.

I hate that there isn't enough side quests for Legion.

I hate that Energy Weapons actually only got 1 new gun.
To explain.
Tesla Cannon and Gauss Rifle are from FO3, not new.
Plasma Caster is from FO1 and FO2, not new.
Multiplas Rifle is just Plasma Rifle with two more needles at the tip, not really that new.
The only weapon I can call "new" is Plasma Defender, but if I remember correctly it is the old design of the Plasma Pistol from the old games.

I hate that even though I kill NCR over and over and over and over they still wouldn't shoot me on sight.
They only started once I killed their ambassador on the strip.

I hate that Rangers only come after me once.

I hate that not enough factions send their own "hitmen/bounty hunters/assassins" after me.

I hate that settlements can respawn after I slaughter them.

I hate that there isn't a good variation from enemies in weaponry.
The only people who use missile launchers as far as I've seen are Boomers and they are secluded to their base and don't traverse over the wasteland.
And almost no generic NPC's use energy weapons.
Fiend use RCW and Plasma Rifle and BOS use a wide variety but BOS are like Boomers secluded to their base.

I hate that the game is so overly biased towards NCR.

I pretty much agree with all of this

One thing i didn't like that wasn't included in this was the glitches and bugs but im not freaking out about it like some people are, New Vegas is still a great game

I absolutely love this game!!! Like it was stated before, this is the true sequel FO2 deserved. I truly feel "ALONE" when wandering around the Mojave desert. Whereas I didn't get the feeling that I was alone at all in FO3. In NV when I'm wandering from one location to the next I really feel as though I'm in a desolate wasteland. There is absolutely nothing around for ages. It takes forever to go from one place to the next. In FO3 (don't get me wrong, FO3 was one of my all time favorite games) I felt as though it didn't take all that long to get from one place to another.

This game feels like a real Fallout game in a way that 3 (as much as I love it) never did.

I love this game with a passion that would make it illegal in many southern states...

The only thing it needs to be perfect is moar two-headed grizzly bears!!!! :D

Yes I'm enjoying the game I think its class, its not as big as FO3 and I do miss all that underground exploration. I'm looking forward to the DLC expand it a bit, cause it feels smaller than we'd been told. Overall I haven't experienced to many bugs or Freezing, although I'm not a great fan of companions Boone has proven himself pretty good in combat. I like the graphics and the rep. system. Overall I'd give it 9 outta 10, one less than Fallout 3 because its not as big and don't say it is when it obiviously isn't. As I've stated in an earlier thread I was a bit iffy at the start but once I settled in, excellent, Good Job all round guys thanx for the effort Ob. Glad to have another installment to play.

I love this game. It is extremely well done in almost every way, I'm 60 hours into my first character and Maybe half way done.

And in that 60 hours I have had just > 3 < crashes! That to me on this engine = Rock Solid compared to games in the past.

I give the game two thumbs up! :goodjob: :goodjob:

I will be living in this game and modding it for Several years to come - it's a great way to start things off. :) (Okay the GameSave bug on the first night was a Textbook way on how Not to start a new game, but thats over now and I'm drowning in New Vegas goodness so I don't care about Save bugs anymore).

Yep this drug is very, very good indeed. :celebration:

I had this annyoing crash where i had to turn off my console, loaded it back it up and found that i could not turn, this was on xbox and was not my controller (as i changed controllers to test) and even reloaded it. Luckily i had a proper save rather than the corrupted autosave not too long before the crash.

One other bug i have had is where i have zoomed out in my scope night scope (as i reload the rifle) and Boone kills the enemy, resulting in a cinmatic death slow mo, when i return to my character, and pop out of the scope i find that my whole screen has turned night vision! Even in third person i had the green tint screen but a reload save fixed (i werent complaining at the time though :P)

However, i was expecting a lot of bugs, as it comes with all their games. Its a new game and there are always bugs with them. I give this 9/10

I don't like it.

I Love it!

Some people have valid points though.

I've been wondering about the desert thing but then I wonder, since it's 200 years in the future after a nuclear holocaust if that would've changed the landscape dramatically.

And the game does seem overly biased to NCR. I think NCR should've had the biggest role but it seems like there are just soo many side quests and NCR locations.

I be loving it so far.
Spoiler
reprogrammed Primm Sim to be the new Sheriff of Primm, not wishing Primm to be under NCR control nor under a Sheriff who is too quick to judge an innocent guilty.
The House/Bunker from the Brotherhood of Steel is nice.

It was refreshing to see I had the correct eval on Lyon's BoS as well.
Looks like the West Coast was silent, because it had disintegrated by not recruiting, inbreeding, and unthinking reverance to a human code of law, Codex in this case.

All in all it has been a blast so far.

For the most part I'm really enjoying the game, although I'm more ambivalent about the main quest. I feel like the main quest is constantly pushing me to do the main quest when what I really want to do is explore the area and the factions - two things that FONV does very well. Sandbox games really need a more relaxed main quest, something to give the world structure but only calls on you with a sense of immediacy or urgency sparingly until you're approaching the climix.

Spoiler
In my opinion the main quest (despite the sense of urgency) dragged until it got to the Strip and then sort of fell apart. It is nice having so many options after dealing with Benny but the situation feels cluttered more than anything else. I haven't finished the second act or started the third but just as it seemed to be taking off I was told to put on my seatbelts because we'd be starting our decent soon. I realize that there are a lot of "side quests" that are quite pertinent to the "main quest" and that distinction is at best blurred, but the mood has still deflated.

Getting back to the first half, I really think this needed an alternate and more direct path. Have someone suggest that with those fancy duds the shooter was probably from New Vegas and here's how to get there quickly by going NE. Also have them note that this path is pretty dangerous and it may be better to follow his trail south which is not only safer but it gives you a chance to learn more about him. If someone does charge right to New Vegas they're going to show up at a much lower level and with very few caps which will make getting in to the Strip and dealing with Benny more difficult and more of an adventure.

There are a few other things I could quibble about but overall I think it's a great game and I'm not only looking forward to completing the main quest with this character but I already have two other builds I can't wait to try. :)

I'm loving FNV. F3 was an awesome game, but I now much prefer FNV. The quests (for the most part) are far better written, and the voice acting is much better (don't have to listen to the same 6 people over and over). I also really like that FNV has actual role playing in it, and is more realistic (having to worry about dying of hunger or thirst out in the wastes, and reloading your own ammo etc).
Having to be genuinely afraid of Deathclaws and giant Radscorpions is refreshing as well. I don't like that so many areas are boarded up or blocked off (hopefully DLC will fix a lot of that). But other than that and the svcky radio stations, I'm liking FNV a whole lot.. :)

I cannot discredit bugs, so they factor into my score of the game.

As it stands, FO:NV is a 68/100 game.
If there were no bugs or SIGNIFICANTLY higher stability, I'd rate it about 82/100.

I love it. The characters have so much personality. You can connect with companions. The combat is better out of VATS. Sniping w/ sights is great. I can listen to a NPC talk for 10 minutes and enjoy it. My only complain besides a few freezes is the lack of schematics. One of my favorite parts of F3.

I don't know,

Game has too many glitches and keeps freezing on me so it is hard for me to find anything I like about the game.

But if it helps, it feels like I am playing Fallout 3.5

It's a huge improvement over Fallout3. Despite some must-have features for a computer game that isn't made for Commodore64 that still aren't implemented (like I would like to see characters face the direction they are moving to)

The bugs don't really bug me that much because I knew from the start that New Vegas would be using the same engine and assets used in Fallout3. When you have a buggy engine you have a buggy game. I'm sure Obsidian will fix bugs much more actively than Bethesda. Not the engine bugs bug the quest bugs.

NV is a brillant game, big improvment fron fallout 3,at first i was worried about this game because everyone has been complaining about the bugs,WHAT BUGS? the only bug ive got is that one of the settllers at good springs had a invisble gun while i was defending the town from powder gangers, the only flaw i find with it is that the companions are really boring accept for rex and ed-e,,for excample in fallout 3 theres a inteligent supermutant,a retired raider, brainwashed ghoul ect on NV you get a washed up caravaner,a doctor and a ghoul engineer,BORING.Although there alot more detailed story wise like boons wife for excample.HAHAHA the supermutant granny is funny though
