DO you like FNV?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:21 am

NV is a brillant game, big improvment fron fallout 3,at first i was worried about this game because everyone has been complaining about the bugs,WHAT BUGS?

  • When I was afk from the game my character was in the water, when the camera started rotating around her her legs spazzed like crazy.
  • I killed the rat the kids chased in Freeside and as a little girl sat down to eat it her character model had the eating animation but she glided across the street.
  • Raul's face texture once stuck so that when he talked it looked like an overlaying facial texture on top of his character model.
  • At Black Mountain I clipped through the ground a feet and back repeatably at which the game crashed.
  • I entered the train station south of Nellis and when I tried to go into the maintenance room I fell through the ground and appeared back at the start of the train tunnel.
  • A goo pile from a previous time when I killed a super mutant was still there the second time I went there, when I tried to search it the game crashed.
  • A bighorner clipped through a fence and rotated over and over again.
  • I shot a Young Gecko with a weapon that is a one hit kill and it had no health bar left but was still alive, I continued to shoot at it with no success but when Raul shot it it died.
  • I helped the Powder Gangers right away from the start but out of nowhere two of them were hostile and started chasing me, being low level I had to kill them at which point I instantly became Vilified by them.
  • At Searchlight when the screen gets a green tint it stuck and I had to restart the xbox.
  • Multiplas rifle repeatably did absolutely no damage at point blank distance even though I clearly hit a super mutant in the head.
  • I killed the NCR ambassador, every NCR in the embassy became hostile, I killed them, I walked outside, I killed the rest, Securitrons came after me, I killed them as well, I fast-traveled away, I returned to the first section of the strip, and when I entered all securitrons blew up in that area.
  • Pip-boy menu became incredibly bright and couldn't see anything on it.

Believe you me, there are a [censored]load of bugs.

Let's see. I like FNV, but honestly I enjoyed F3 much better.

I keep hearing that F3 was more linear, FNV is more ambiguious, but really it all boils down to FNV not being as epic, for me at least.
The stakes just felt so much higher in F3, music was better, and I liked the retro-futurism more than western-retro-futurism.
Dispute over territory seems so petty compared to fresh water for the whole area. The goals seemed so much grander than in FNV.

I did like:
The improved dialogue and acting.
Companions get knocked out, and human ones not killed as easily as they were in F3
More unarmed weapons, and moves.
More locations.

I did not like:
Smaller area.
Music, radio stations.
Lame companions. Really? A granny mutant? The only bad-ass was Boone!
Lower technology level. For an area less ravaged by war, it seemed odd. NCR was like WWII Russia, starving, low ammo, etc.
Not any cleaner or more intact than F3, doesn't make sense to me.
Much fewer Vaults.
Much fewer schematics.
Weapons mods had little effect.
Too few opportunities to fight Legion. In F3, there were Enclave outposts everywhere.
If F3 was grey, FNV is all brown, again, lame for an area less bombed or completly un-touched by bombs
Not a lot of mystery; mutants are recycled Masters army, not crazy experiement. Vaults were lame.
Hardly any new weapons.
Main story was linear, predicatable, no twists or turns. Just pick your faction and what you think will happen does. Boring.
Fewer Melee weapons. Bumper sword is new...I found that as exciting as a 2x4 sword.
Energy weapons crappier
Power suits just like F3; not a big improvement from mad-max armor, despite having a power source, hydralics etc. How does that make sense?
Power suits eventhough same as F3, they are few in number and choice. Boring.
Fewer random encounters. I could be wrong on this, but having played both equal times, that's how it felt to me.

The biggest thing for me, which ties into the lack of Epic-ness for me was by end, I didn't feel like I had as much of an impact on the world. In F3, there were a few places where if I wiped out the "bad-guys", they were toast, no respawn. In FNV, sure a leader would be gone, but the NPCs were still there, over and over again. What did I even change? Dialogue, that's it. Honestly, the way the story went, I didn't feel like I was essential to what was going on. Given that there were 10 NCR camps to every legion camp, I didn't feel like I made much of a difference in the overall scheme. I don't really feel I changed much of the essentials, helped mankind or any of the big epic goals I had in F3. And not being able to continue to play after the final quest also svcked.

6.5/10

If I were to do it again, I would not have rushed out to buy it release day. I would have rented or waited for price to go down. May seem harsh, but it's just my opinion. I wanted to love the game, but I just can't. Better than a lof of games out there, but compared to Fallout 3 it was too anti-climactic for me.

So the only reason you hated it was because of the graphics?
Heh, well then, if graphics are so important to you that you won't even give the game a chance then I guess it's your loss. :P

Better than Fallout 3 in most ways - gameplay, story/quests, world design, more hours of gameplay. But honestly, I expected more - the game is way too easy (due to fast leveling up & broken economy system), reputation system doesn't respond well to your actions, karma system takes away the "gray morality", hardcoe mode requires only inventory management, and most of the time is spent just on going from A to B.
Overall 8/10
In my opinion, Fallout 1 & 2 are still the best in the series

Going to black mountain and killing the mutants and looting their stuff can net up to 10.000 caps which can easily be sold to merchants who have thousands of caps in their inventory.

... but having played both equal times, that's how it felt to me.

You played FO3 for like a week?

I played FO3 for months. That said, in spite of its bugs, I still like FO:NV better. Someone said previously that FO:NV was to FO3 what Morrowind was to Oblivian, and that's exactly how I feel. While FO3 and Oblivian were both solid, enjoyable games, they lacked something that's a bit hard to define and both of them felt a little contrived to me.

FO:NV may end up ranking among my modern favorites. It will never actually compare with Morrowind (or Daggerfall, for that matter) because it just can't compete versus a game of that scale.

That's one thing that's been disappointing me with Bethesda (or pretty much any modern game company)- every time they push the art envelope, the game worlds get smaller and smaller. I'd like to see them stop focusing on graphis quite so much and go back to giving us epic worlds. Part of the reason that Morrowind (and Daggerfall) were so great is because the worlds were huge and the player felt just a little bit lost in them.

And that's part of why FO:NV is so appealing to me - while I know what my storyline objective is, I still have this slight feeling of "What's going on? And what should I do next?" In FO3 and Oblivian I did side quests to put off finishing the main story. It shouldn't be like that. In FO:NV... I'm doing them because I'm a little lost (in a good way) and don't know how important they might be in the end. I like that the game starts me off on a quest for personal revenge - but along the way I discover a greater cause and become involved in it.

.... now if they could just fix all the bugs

lol, yea... the first golden gecko I came across I took like 10 screenshots of... it licking its eyeball... tilting its head to look at me... covering it's face with its hand. - just awesome

I've ignored a lot of the heavier common loot in favor of mobility, and I didn't sell off any items from my epic hidden stash.
I guess it is pretty broken...

Yep, i actually like FNV. =) (despite it's bugs, it's a great game)

Even though i continuously scream and curse over the bugs.. >_<
about an hour ago i completed Vault 34 on normal setting.. and the "no fire" bug hit me hard in there.. i managed to clear it and the quest related just before i was about to die of rad poisoning..
I entered the vault with 0 rads and 10 radaways.. i left the vault with 956 rads and 0 rad aways.. :x

Fallout 3 is good, Fallout New Vegas is good.
They are both pretty sweet games offering experiences distinct from each other. I enjoyed them both immensely for different reasons.
Why must people compare the two unfavourably all the time, huh?

Just ten hours into it and I'm really not connecting with the game the way I did with Oblivion and Fallout 3. Seems as if the new implementations that were supposed to make the game more difficult, dangerous or deep have so far just made it tedious for me. When I keep drifting back to WoW because I'm not enjoying myself in a new Bethesda game something is wrong (then again, its more like a bastardization of a Bethesda game).

My verdict so far is: Excellent!

*snip*

I pretty much agree with this after about 30 hours of playing. The "issues" with New Vegas are almost entirely superficial in my opinion. For me the main things I was disappointed with in Fallout 3 were the characters, sub-plots, the fact that my decisions had little effect on anything, the spoon-fed, static, and predictable story, the way the level-up system homogenized my characters, and some others. Most, if not all of these issues were addressed for New Vegas. I wasn't expecting an entirely new game engine with a ton of changes, so I was unaffected by that. The wasteland looks exactly how it should look. If you've even been to Nevada that's exactly how you'd expect the area to look 200+ years after WWIII. IMO everything is balanced better in NV than it was in FO3...not perfect, but a LOT better.

Almost all of the legit complaints I've heard have to do with graphics (which I think are great...I didn't expect Crysis 2), the fact that they didn't change a lot (this is just a matter of expectations...I didn't expect it so I'm not disappointed), and the fact that the story doesn't "draw you in" (I didn't like how Fallout 3 spoon-fed the story, so this was a plus for me). To me this is Fallout 3 the way it should have been done the first time. Props to Bethesda and Obsidian for listening to the community.

I have to say i felt fallout 3 was my heavily favored of the two. NV isnt a bad game, far from it. It wasn't what i expected it to be. here are my top three complaints

1.Mr. New Vegas is no where near as good as three dog
I enjoyed three dog. He was the only reason i had the radio on. I loved how every decision you made was scolded or praised for what conclusion came with your choices. He had passion to it to. Mr.New Vegas just isn't as good. I seriously
only had the radio for until the tutorial was over and then never played it for the rest of the game. He was just not interesting enough to listen to for 45 to 70 hours.

2. Storyline
First things first. I will not discuss the storyline because i hate when people ruin a game or movie. All i wanna say is why am i not a vault dweller? It is tradition since game 1. but o well i guess i could worry about more things.

3. Minor upgrades
The traits are useless, hardcoe mode doesn't seem to hard until you get i into the later parts of the game. im nit picking with this one but i found no use for the survivial skill added in and combining the guns together. I never used the compainion wheel. i never actually got a compainion. But last but not least do you only get a perk every two levels that pissed me off so bad.

Like i said Fallout new vegas isnt a horrible game i have a spot for it in my collection that i wont be giving up soon. i just like 3 better. The story was better, the charecters more invovled, and it seemed more like a post-apocalyptic world than new vegas. My vote: Fallout 3 =10 New Vegas 7.75

This is how a Desert looks like with proper feelingin RDR , even if the game areas aren't that bigger....

The graphics in Red Dead Redemption are awesome. Imagine having that engine running a Fallout or TES game. Now that would have been something. Sure, visual presentation is not the most important thing in a video game, but it matters.

It's funny, because I feel exactly the opposite. I hated (HATED) Three Dog. I found him incredibly cheesy and obnoxious. Mr. New Vegas sounds like a drunk, creepy guy flirting with the audience like it's last call down at the local night club...which I'm finding to be pretty funny.

2. Storyline
First things first. I will not discuss the storyline because i hate when people ruin a game or movie. All i wanna say is why am i not a vault dweller? It is tradition since game 1. but o well i guess i could worry about more things.

This didn't bother me, although I know it did bother a lot of people. I personally though 3 games with similar beginnings was enough...especially this long after the war.

I love all of the things you hate, I guess. The perks are so much better and more interesting than they were in Fallout 3 that only getting half as many is a good trade. Would not go back to FO3's way of handling it. Did you play FO1/2? The traits aren't supposed to be hugely game-altering...they just give your character more flavah.

Did we play the same game? I thought the story in Fallout 3 was terrible. I felt led by the nose through somebody else's story about their lost daddy. Too static, cliche, and predictable for me. No real choices. Not only that, but most of the story was transplanted directly from FO1/2 with minor tweaks.
