Do you like hearing your character's voice?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 6:01 pm

I don't mind it as much as I thought I would, although the dialog wheel is just as hit-and-miss as in literally every other game with a dialog wheel.

But since I 'talk' for my characters a lot while I play, I do find it amusing when I walk up to some random npc and say, *ehem* and a second later that's exactly what my character says. It's kinda cute.

Same goes for the subpar version of Bioware's dialogue wheel... and I thought theirs was bad enough.

To a point. It does make the character I made seem alive. I could do without them commenting every time I do something though. I don't need to hear "nice!" every time I successfully pick a lock for example.

No. The voice sounds nothing like what I envision in my mind. The VA pulls me out of the game, it's an immersion breaker.

Because of having the main character fully voiced, they cut of most of the dialogs we are used to have in the old games.

Becaust it's to expensive.

So far I like it. I think it's a progressive step forward for Bethesda games in the future.

I'm just curious if and how they will implement it in Elder Scrolls. What, 10 quality voice actors for every race? I'm afraid that might would sacrifice quality choices in dialogue specific to certain perks and race.

Yes, voice is an improvement.

And let's not pretend there is a debate about whether this will be the mechanism for the next game because it will be.

It's tolerable, but combined with the limited dialogue system, I find it takes away from the amount of role playing I can do to capture the character I want. But we're not talking about the dialogue options.

The voice acting itself is well enough and Delaney is pretty good with capturing the tone of some dialogue.

To early for me to tell. Also there should be an "other" vote. I am a little on the fence right now. Like something and dislike others.

It's a great voice, surprisingly happy with it. Beats Bioware's latest work (*cough* DA:I) down the gravel. Nothing more to add really :)

Big leap in the right direction for me. Still prefer the cinematic storytelling in BioWare games, in this game they're pretty much just standing there talking, but we're getting there :tops:

I'd dare guess you will not worry if you are on the PC platform. I will bet my life's stock on the amazing talents of the modding community to remove the voiced dialogue and replace the existing dialog choices with the actual verbiage of the PC.

I also think this will happen before the release of the GECK. The Script Extender team has already opened files and started working on mod(s) prior to the game being released.

It's not game breaking but I wish we could toggle it off and just have your answers come up in a box or something. It really bothers me is when I answer with what I thought was a "tough guy" answer and the voice sounds like he is about to start crying.

Using the girl and i hate her voice. She seems vapid and naive to me. Don't think she would survive the wastes.

I don't like it. Voiced protagonist implies too many gameplay restrictions to work well in such a game for me.

I don't mind it when the character is already set and you're living the adventure alongside him/her, it doesn't work so well when the game give you the possibility to be straight into the character's shoes.

One of my favorite things in Bethesda games is the possibility to replay the game as a completely different character, and then another, and then another... The voice protagonist cuts down on the possibilities to the point I do not see me playing this game more than twice, maybe once.

Two things can be done for the best of both worlds, one is already done and it's the option to switch off the talking view angle of the camera, the second is the possibility to mute the main character's voice. This way people loving the voiced protagonist could play the game with the voice and switching camera angles during conversation, while those who do not could mute it, keep the camera on the other character use the subtitle function for their character. I really wish they had given us the possibility to play this way should we want to.

If they want to force the voice on us then at least provide us with choice like Bioware did in DAI with four different voice actors, two males and two females.

I am indifferent. I neither like it or hate it. it serves its purpose and isn't bothering me very much. neither am I impressed.

I do not like it

The male va sounds so whiny, I get your son was kidnapped but I was hoping to role play a gruff veteran that's usually pretty stoic, but every time he opens his mouth about his son he sounds like a pu$$y

The worst part is i don't even feel like it's my character anymore just one BGS made for me...alas I'll probably just have to get over it because how many people are liking it so far, even though a large minority dislikes it. (Yes I'm aware these forums don't come close to representing the general fallout playing population)

Sometimes it sounds really good but for the most part he sounds bored. I haven't heard the female yet but hopefully she doesn't noncholantly mumble most of her lines lol.

Not really a fan. It works best in games with a fixed character.

I feel like I'm playing someone else's character tbh.

I also don't feel immersed when I'm cut into some cut scene thing. I want it like skyrim where you can talk straight up to a charcter.

I kinda like it, yeah.

It's not that intrusive and seems to fit well with the game.

I don't think it would work well for TES. Too many races which would each need a unique voice.

I'm playing as a female and I like Taylor's voice work. Given the situation its very believable and given I'll be going down the more renegade path I like how she isn't instantly [censored] you to everyone and is gradually changing over time. At least by how I'm playing it anyway. The kidnapped baby dialogue isnt as frequent as most are saying, at least not by the options I'm picking.

The voice is *ok* on average, not the lines, the voice. The VA acts the material she was given just fine, so if the material had been good I'd had be *fine* with it. Though silent protagonist would still be better.
