Do you like Skyrim's theme music?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:28 am

I'm kind of disappointed that they still didn't get away from the Morrowind tune... I mean it's not bad to have some kind of reminiscence of past games in terms of music, but it's so similar to Oblivion's theme. They should have emphasized a different instrument than oblivion.

I actually loved it. Sent a tingle up my spine the first time I heard it on the Spike TV reveal.

The way I see it, I'm glad that they kept the core theme. It's a trademark for them - like how it wouldn't be Halo's theme without some portion of its original musical core.

That is the staple tune for the elder scrolls, its in each theme. Morrowind, Oblivion, and now under the epic chanting of Skyrim. Its just sorta like how starting a prisoner is tradition. I personally find the theme awesome :hubbahubba:

I love the new theme, it's the same classic song from Morrowind but it feels new and polished. Where Morrowind and Oblivion variation of the ES theme are good but more or less generic, the Skyrim version feels like it's captured the spirit of skyrim.

Love the tune, as it is the Morrowind's melody with a Nordic coating.

Nostalgia aside, I think Morrowind's melody was one of the best ever.

I love how they kept it similar to Morrowind and I seriously hope they do with every single game they release just like Legend of Zelda and such they make a great game and just improve on the old music continuously never changing the base tune.

I love it! And I love the way it's built on Morrowind's theme! I replayed hundreds of times the 4th video in the Sounds of Skyrim update and man... like Mark said, no matter how many times I heard it, I still get goosebumps when I hear Morrowind. The chorus sounds fantastic!

That statement is marinated in nostalgia.

Regarding the skyrim theme...I love it!

I really like the melody; it's iconic for the Elder Scrolls by now. However, my favourite interpretation by far was Morrowind's - simply beautiful. Sure, Skyrim's one fits the rugged feel of Skyrim, but I just prefer Morrowind's instrumental piece (although Skyrim's chants are also undeniably cool.)

Oh and I think Oblivion's one did a generally poor choice of conveying an imperial, regal feel - missed chance for some great anthems worthy of mighty empires imo.

I love it. It has the strong brass and bold feel of Oblivion's theme, with all of the intricate progressions and instrumental flourishes of Morrowind. From the snippets heard in the Sounds of Skyrim video, I think it may already be on its way to becoming my favorite Elder Scrolls theme.

Hell yes!

And the secondary music (the one they played at the end of the podcast) sounded awesome, and something I could really get into while exploring the tundras :)

Um what ? Are you just listening to the drums at the beginning on repeat ? Really ?

Listen to this from 00:08

And listen to this from 00:11

Either I′m tone deaf, missing something, or those two are not as alike as people think...

Edit: I′ve bold-ed and underlined the part that was confusing me, and left the rest of the post intact for a public display of my shame.

D: I call myself a TES fan and hadn′t heard the new theme until just now.

I will definitely make one!

I think Skyrim's theme is a bit simple with the choirs, but there are some other parts as well that are less rhythmical.

I love it. It has the strong brass and bold feel of Oblivion's theme, with all of the intricate progressions and instrumental flourishes of Morrowind. From the snippets heard in the Sounds of Skyrim video, I think it may already be on its way to becoming my favorite Elder Scrolls theme.

I was surprised to love it. Good stuff. I never felt that way for Morrowind or Oblivion's music. Still, I like Redguard 's intro music more.

What you hear in that trailer is just an excerpt of the Skyrim *theme*, the "chorus" if you prefer (maybe). When you hear the theme it is extremely similar to the classic Morrowind theme, but it also have some of the parts you hear in the trailer. But I will have to say I immediately hear similarities from the trailer part and the Morrowind theme.

How are these for "sounding similar"?

I love their theme! It sounds great, the GI info really showed how much work was put into it.

Everytime a theme music discussion comes up, I always forget that tune exists. Then somebody mentions it and I loop it on YouTube for at least a half hour.

Actually, in Oblivion the theme used a strong brass section for the melody, the tempo was sped up, but none of the rhythms changed from in Morrowind. In Skyrim, they've changed a lot of the rhythms and timing in the arrangement, they've added a new intro section, and it's now done using a vocal chorus, with no brass section. That's just off the top of my head, but it's changed quite a bit.
