Do you like the Gauss Rifle?

Obviously it does huge damage but I don't really enjoy using it. As a sniper it desn't feel comfy that accurate

I like its damage, looks cool, charge mechanic though not original, is neat.

Don't like how badly it outclasses hunting rifle though

Never been a fan. Its cute w the high damage and all but its so rare to find and so heavy to lug around, if I find one ill use it once or twice till I go sell off my loot.

i tried to use it, but feel like im not hitting anything with it ever.

On the other hand, arming my guards with it looks totally awesome. Just wish they'd hit the target and not KO the crops with every miss

I kinda like how SS uses the scope properly with Gauss Rifle in VATS.. while SS ignores all other scopes. lol

I don`t really enjoy it... but I cannot deny the sheer fire power of two-shot Gauss Rifle.

It`s fun to use it once in a while but too over powered to abuse. I also do not like weird blurry hit effect of Gauss Rifle.

Come to think of it what is up with the Gauss Rifle hit effect?

Is it suppose to be some kind of visually recognizable air wave because the force of Gauss Rifle is so powerful? Lol

Now I am curious, what they tried to achieve by adding such annoying effect.

I don't like using it either. It's never been more than a rarely-used backup weapon for any of my characters.

I've found that In NV and FO3 it was a neat toy to play around with for about ten minutes or so before I go back to my regular weapon. I don't see that changing in FO4, so why even bother.

And there's also the fact that the thing is as ugly as [censored]. I mean it's even uglier than it ever was, and it was pretty ugly even then. I'm one who tries to balance functionality and aesthetics. I have never been able to find a happy medium with the Gauss rifle before, and it certainly ain't gonna happen now.

Come to think of it, I find most of FO4's weapons to be downright ugly. Not just ugly, but also look like the sort of weapons that would be more hazardous to the user, than the person at the business end of it.

This is a tangent, but I'm curious to know; are two shot weapons the most powerful period? They essentially double the damage of a weapon right?

If that is true it seems to make all other legendary weapon mods pointless.

Ive been told by someone on here that it doesn't do double damage, only 1.6x damage. But I haven't looked into it further than that.

No, two shot does not double the power of gun because second legendary effect shot is not affected by perk. (from what i heard)

Also Two shot effect significantly makes recoil and spread worse. (which is why I don`t use any but Gauss)

Two shot gauss rifle u can use it more or like sniper rifle AND shotgun. So it is extremely powerful.

However, the most powerful legendary effect generally is Explosive effect on automatic rifles.

They are the best for everything but melee weapons ad shotguns (only one extra pellet, come on!) imo.

Yeah, the gauss is a mixed bag for me. It's super powerful, but not very accurate. If I need an energy sniper, I'll use my six-crank laser musket

Havent used one yet in any playthrough. Theyre like missile launchers for me, just a bunch of caps waiting to be sold.

Oh ok, thank you for the responses.

As for my part, I do really enjoy the Gauss Rifle, mainly because once you get one modded up it hits like a truck. It looks pretty cool too I think.

For me the Gauss Rifle is the 'You've Arrived!' weapon of Fallout 4, the one that signals your entrance into End Game Gear. I know that when they start dropping my character just got his Golden Ticket to Club Bad Ass. I may never use the Rifle itself, but the symbol of the power it represents is cool. Like finding a complete suit of the games' top Power Armor.

the second shot doesn't take perks into account... but it's even more complicated since the shots are first added and then halved (which makes a difference against resistances).

the second shot is a bit inaccurate... it doesn't neccessarily hit the same spot.

but yes, for slow, hard hitting weapons it's very powerful. Not for shotguns though.. it doesnt make it shoot 14 pellets instead of 7.... it just adds one.

but back on topic...the gauss:

With VATS it works... i don't like the bullet travel time (just like the plasma snipers). Completely unusable as a non vats sniper weapon on long range.

Never used it much... but i like giving them to settlers and provisioners ;)

No, Two shot adds the base damage of the weapon with the current damage of the weapon you're using and then divides that damage between 2 projectiles.

For something like the Gauss rifle, it is still a very good mod for it. Instigating may be better though.

For low damage/high ROF weapons, two shot wouldn't do that much to improve their effectiveness compared to a flat damage mod like explosive or plasma-infused.

I use it almost exclusively since it's the only truly viable single shot weapon in the game, since ballistic weaponry (especially the supposed .50) is grossly outperformed on the high end. The antimateriel rifle and Gauss rifle in New Vegas were close to parity. That should have been the same condition in FO4. As it is, the Gauss Rifle far exceeds (422 DAM) the capability of the closest, highest end ballistic weapon.

Many of us, we're looking for that "you've arrived, now you can hit targets like a Mac truck," in an actual antimateriel rifle, not some laughable afterthought haphazardly thrown on to a hunting rifle frame to say, "see we have a .50 cal in the game." Disappointing.

When it comes to guns, Bethesda is just weird. As such, and just as you would expect from the creators of Elder Scrolls, magic is their preferred combat instrument.

I appreciate this Gauss rifle more than previous versions. The way it is built, that awesome thick steel encyclopedia of a suppressor, the fact that it interacts meaningfully with ammunition, the sheer size of it in the hands of an NPC.

I am okay with it not blowing enemies back like older models.

Have to agree here! Last Minute has been my primary sniper gun but will admit I am really bored of it and try going with other solutions. I was really disappointed how utterly useless and weak the Railway rifle was. Wish it had a max damage potential to match gauss. I'd be a fan for sure!

The Gauss Rifle is a magnetic accelerator, it's supposed to completely outclass any standard ballistic weapon, in fact having a projectile travel time for it is stupid since it's projectiles should be at least 2 or 3 times faster than those of rifles.

On topic, I use it only when it fits the character I'm RPing, which as it happens is only one of them.

Not a fan of any of the sci-fi weapons, all too clunky looking.

Except the Alien Blaster.
