I use it to store my artifacts and unique miscs, along with an armory to put unique equipments. Since it's quite snuggy and come with lots of lighting; it looks really nice when furnished. DO NOT build barrels, because they will svck up precious spaces and a completely perfectly placed table to put more stuff in.

But still plenty of space to cram pretty much every unique things in the game... That is, if they can stay in their places...

I have the storage room at Lakeview for one reason only-- to have the north-facing upper deck. To me, Lakeview is all about the view, and it seems a pity to not have a north-facing deck in that spot.

But in answer to your question, no, not really. There's really no shortage of storage in the rest of the house. I guess it might be suited to certain RP styles, but in practical terms, it's surplus to requirements.

I would like it more if those barrels were not taking up space on the table. I am sick of barrels, sacks and junk everywhere, I want space to put my stuff on display. But the storage room certainly has more potential than the alchemy tower. And as nice as the trophy room looks the junk covers just about every surface but the chest, so it is not much use to a home decorator, although Braggen will get around to it. And the storage room having the balcony does make it a lot more appealing.

Yes, I like the storage room. It has the feeling of a treasure room or really untidy museum storage. I love the rooftop deck even more than the storage room itself.

I should mention that I chose not to build all of the barrels.

Bedroom
Trophy Room
Armoury

That's just me though. I don't need to worry about spaces.

I knew I want a space for kids and an alchemy table. What else can I have?

I built the storage room because I wanted that sweet, sweet deck but it was just too messy for my tastes, even without the barrels. I went with the alchemy tower instead, and I still get a neat little aerie where I can escape from the kids and enjoy a nice view.

I got it and regret picking it. It looks messy inside, everything is unorganized, way to many barrels. The Armory is enough for me.

Agreed if one is planning on using the room for storage.

I built mine to have that "lived in home" look, so I piled everything the game would give me, including barrels. I don't use the room for storage at all, and like others, mainly for the deck, especially at Lakeview.

I also agree there's no shortage of space in these homes. My goodness, there are more lock boxes I can count, and that's not including additional chests, sacks, and dressers! If one runs out of space in a house, I'd question what they were doing trying to store everything the game has to offer.

Use was important to me, because as my game progressed, I needed easy access. For that, the cellar wins, hands-down for this.

Those two chest placements are awesome. I store "weapons and armor to be crafted" in one, and all the ores and ingots to do so in the other. I also place my enchanted smithing garb and potions in this chest.

A potion's 30 second time limit can be utilized to its maximum proficiency in the cellar. Before hand, it was Whiterun. I've always hated wasting potions (in previous games) just to upgrade a piece or two because I wasn't in the right spot at the right time.

In my second house, whose name I've yet to remember but sits behind Whiterun, has the armory and showroom. I nicknamed it the "museum". LOL. I've put all the bows (bare form) in the game on the racks. There's one spot left, and that's for the daedric bow, once it starts showing up.

The house next to Solitude is... well, let's just say I'll be renting this one out. I doubt I'll find anyone willing to rent from there. It's conveniently located next to nothing.

I sure does explain why that other house was abandoned.

I build the room just for the outside deck and leave it unfurnished. Why clutter up the place with junk? Pity we can't drag chairs, benches, or tables in there and create a "dragon-den", a cool place to hang out.

Dangnabbit, makes me wish for customization options!

I'm using the room to store barrels.

I built the storage room on my Windstad Manor mainly for the deck, but without the barrels it has some potential. I will like it better when they fix the grab and place mechanism so I can hand place a bunch of items/loot.

I'm with you, hate all the damn sacks, too many baskets, buckets, and brooms. I didn't put the table in the storage room because of that, but I do like that north facing balcony, especially adjoining the bedroom balcony.

I have the 3 expansions that have decks on the outside. so one of my houses (the one close to whiterun) has all the decks connected which I think I like the best. I also have one with all 3 towers which looks kind of cool also.

but I have to say the expansions for what they are are not nearly very different looking I mean when I think of how cool the alchemical Garden/Enchanting area in Frostgrag spire and some of the other expansions are all of the house addons just look bland. dont get me wrong the houses you can make can look cooler than any house in Skyrim maybe even than in any other elder scrolls game and can have the look of a right nice manor. but I mean can it really compare to Fighters Strornghold, Vile Lair, Den of Thiefs and Wizards tower addons which were (surprisingly close to the same price)

The outside can look fairly impressive
getting 3 new houseCarls useful
these to combine to make you feel more important and perhaps powerful even more so if you have all the house plus all 3 manors and are a thane in every hold)

concept and game mechanic is welcome but to be honnest I was hopeing on being able to build a mages tower the was better than frostcrag and a keep or keep that was bigger and better than Battlehorn. it just seems to me that this is nice and worth the price but compared to Oblivions addon homes(which all had truly unique looks and feels to them our manors seem kind of bland.
