do you run or walk?

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:11 pm

i walk, because it just makes it more natural. it seems kinda stupid to run around aimlessly for no reason. i hope skyrim will have limited run capacity. sprintingis in so that's good.

As far as I know, there is a sprinting feature...but i'm pretty sure you can still run by default too.

I'm not 100% sure to be honest. Its not really stated in the forum rules as to why.

My guess is that each post you make talking about your rank is helping you achieve a higher post count, thus higher rank. Post count should really about the quality of the post rather than quantity, and I think thats what the moderating team is trying to get across.

I use the mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7484 with all my characters, which forces the character to begin walking when Fatigue hits zero. The character begins running again when Fatigue rises to 25%. So, all of my characters both run and walk (at least during their early lifetimes) because they're forced to.

Beyond that, it depends. I roleplay, so what I do with each character is naturally going to vary considerably from character to character. When I play a more barbaric/warrior type of character, they will typically run everywhere. They tend to be the impatient types, who barge into rooms without knocking, mouth off to Umbacano, etc, etc. My more refined characters tend to walk in cities and inside buildings. They often run when they're out-of-doors though. My thief-type characters often run most places, except when they do not want to attract attention (when they are around shopkeepers, guards, etc).

I always run, I think it's a lot easier. I use my horse when I'm not in a city though.

Sir Rugrat gro-Shurgak eats horses and goes nowhere without his enchanted orcish armor and his eighty pound ebony warhammer. So yeah, he walks.

My characters usually walk in cities unless it's Helena going out for a morning run, or whatever. Outside of cities, it's a mix.

I do whatever makes sense realistically. I try and walk most of the time, as it helps me soak in and enjoy the environment more. But if I'm being chased by a crazed Black Bow Bandit, the only thing I'd be soaking up is arrows, so I might as well run.

I usually run everywhere except in the shops. Seems uncivilized to go rushing about in them.

No matter what character I walk in cities, but made a habit of running when I'm not, but I've made a character who is a lot calmer and walks everywhere - which can be hard.

My decrepit avatar travels at a walk, whether mounted or on foot, a good 95% of the time. For me it doesn't make sense for a heavily armed and armored warrior on an armored horse to move faster than a walk except for brief infrequent bursts of speed at need. In any case a walking pace helps create the illusion that Cyrodiil is larger than it really is. With timescale set to "10" (default is "30") a walking trip from IC to Anvil takes a solid day. Departing at a reasonably early hour and stopping only when absolutely necessary normally sees us reach our destination either late that same evening or early next morning. Either way we arrive in time to grab an adequate amount of shuteye before heading out again. Likewise, a round-trip from IC to Bravil and back again under similar circumstances consumes a solid day, though with more free time at journey's end. Yes, a faster timescale would make these adventures take even longer. But faster time passage never seemed natural to me. I didn't felt comfortable with it. "10" seems a good compromise. I rarely notice the phoniness of it all at that setting.

Too, my avatar normally travels in third-person. Running everywhere in third-person simply doesn't "look" right to me.

Lastly, walking (as opposed to running/galloping) is less likely to trigger objectionable stutters / lag in highly congested and heavily modified areas.

To each his or her own. Back when I used first-person almost exclusively I never gave the matter much thought and ran almost constantly.

Different situations call for different modes of travel. Whenever Lissa is in a city she walks, whenever she is in the wilderness she usually jogs to start with then walks, unless she is travelling on horseback. In dungeons she walks, unless she has a few nasties on her tail, then she runs like no-ones business! :D

My character normally walks. Even when she gets chased, she normally just disappears and walks, leaving a summon behind to distract. She's very agile and pretty quick, but has almost no endurance.

She rides her horse most places and the horse usually walks. Sometimes the horse runs because she is the fastest horse in Cyrodill and that is what she was built for. When riding and someone tries to hurt them, they run. When crossing atop the surface of rivers and lakes, the horse usually runs.

In towns and cities I prefer to walk, but than I am used to getting lost in the Imperial City so I use 'fast travel' , I 'run' in the countryside it doesn't make sense and I am trying to work on it ...

With Horse yes I 'gallop' or how you call it in English, but than If you run with a horse I get exhausted if you want to play it realistic .... And a exhausted horse easily dies ...

All my characters usually ride or run when travelling, because I'm impatient and just can't handle going slowly. :whistling: Indoors, in caves or in battle situations all slow to a walk, though, to save fatigue and for realism. Unless someone's pounding on them and they want to make a quick escape.

I might have just lost all roleplayer credibility. Quick, agile wood elves are probably good runners, so maybe all of my characters being superbly athletic marathoners isn't that much of a crime. :P
