Do you support oblivion style quest markers in skyrim?

Quest marker to the location is fine, but once inside I'd like to have to find it by myself.

If all else fails, cast Clairvoyance.

people that say they don't have time to play the game are just nuts, cause its single player and u can save when ever u want, so how the H do u NOT have time to play the frigging game????!! u don't have weekends, u work 24/7? are u a slave in a coal mine somewhere on a distant planet??? if not then u have time.

and as I said saving and loading and the single player-y nature of the game should allow you all the time in the world, hell u can play it for 10 minutes then quick save exit and try again later

I know, right?

and don't u dare argue with this logic, JUST DON'T, cause it will be madness.

Oh. Haven't you yet learned? Madness is our stock in trade here. The Shivering Isles are sane by comparison. Welcome to Bedlam, Mad Tom's around here somewhere. :D

I voted no. Getting directions is way way cooler than getting a GPS point.

Also, a toggle option doesn't help. It's the worst of both worlds unless the whole game is designed around the assumption that markers will be turned off (which is NOT what most players would choose, so ...)

Falmer's post (#80 in this thread) is my favorite. A great example of how immersive description can be and what a lost opportunity it is to use the GPS instead. Really, both of those situations will take a thoughtful player about the same amount of time! It's not a matter of how much time a player has to invest; it's about how much effort the devs can put into making descriptions that can be followed by an averagely stupid gamer. It doesn't have to be hard to be immersive!

To spin 180° for a moment, I also completely agree with Gizmo that GPS markers are a good thing for places your character has already been (maybe with a margin of error built in for a route you've only traveled once or twice). Even if I, the player, don't remember the way back to town, my character probably does. They can feel the air getting colder, they can feel the shift of the tides, they know instinctively that the air is a little thicker over the town ... sense of direction is not something that can be adequately conveyed in any video game. If you've been there, your character should be able to find their way back, even if to you it just looks like a bunch of pixelated trees that all look the same, you know?

Lastly, the very existence of the Clairvoyance spell gives me high hopes that quest markers won't be heavy-handed. If they were, there would be no reason for Clairvoyance to exist.

Bethesda seems to have left that option out, sorry. :P

Actually, that's the solution that waters the game down like whiskey in a cheap bar trying to make it suitable for everyone including those who claim they can't play it because of time constraints, thus shouldn't play it.

EDIT: Plus, I agree that covering all bases would be prefereable to catering to either extreme. But based on Oblivion, they seem to have already chosen to cater to the "I like my Nirn-Boy 300 GPS" extreme. Directions are rare, good directions virtually nonexistent, but you'll get those Nirn-Boy 300 GPS coordinates 99.9% of the time.

Yes, I guess we'll be stuck with the GPS system. Which is stupid and doesn't fit in an RPG game at all, I admit.

I'm actually starting to roleplay more heavily the past few days (vacation yay) and the GPS system is starting to annoy me more often than not. So I totally understand your viewpoint :P, which is exactly why I think it should be toggle-able, but I guess it'll never happen.

anyway I just hope the "hand holding" part of the game is optional :P, like setting the game on easy or something...

It's off topic, but I can't resist.

Poor Tom. Tom's a cold.....

Agreed! Oblivion's difficulty slider was largely ineffective I found. It changed the game from interesting but too easy to dull and repetitive.

It has nothing to do with intelligence as I could easily find places on my own, but most people who want it just don't have the time to play this game for long periods at once. Stop being an elitist [censored].

They should just make it toggle-able instead of removing it completely. This way it caters to both worlds, and everybody's happy.

Except thats ridiculous....why in the world should a game be catered to someone who doesnt have time to play it. Rofl....seriously? And it most likely isnt going to be making everyone happy.....take a look at fallout 3...completely catering to the lazy/people who dont want to think/want their hand held.

Saying make it toggle-able doesnt work at all when the game is designed around markers and there is zero dialogue for the other side. Sorry but i dont see them putting in much directional dialogue at all. Partly because of radiant story, partly because of voice acting, for a number of reasons.

And why are you calling him an elitist?....because he wants the game to be good and doesnt think it should be catered to people who dont have time to play the game? In that case i must be an elitist too. If you dont have time to play it, tough...who cares....dont dumb down the game to make it easier/faster for those who want to just pick it up for a tiny bit here and there and rush through it.

If the directions are as wful as morrowinds were than yes, I would like Iikeif it only pointed to the destination which makes sense since an npc has marked it on your map but I don't want it o track npcs and lead me through dungeons
