Do you think we'll be able to see our body in first person i

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:55 pm

Or at least our legs?

So many people say this is not a big deal and they'd rather see it going towards other things in the game (developing more weapons, etc.), which I think is stupid. I hate the trend of FPS's and games in the first person perspective to play as a floating camera. I get the technology limitations we used to have, but those aren't a problem anymore. Being able to look down in first person and see the clothes you're wearing in game would be incredible. If that doesn't happen, though, just being able to see your legs (like some FPS's today) would add to the immersion.

The Elder Scrolls series is all about immersion. Imagine climbing up those 7,000 steps in game, looking down, and watching your characters legs scale the steps with unique animations. Some people find this stupid, but the immersion it adds is really awesome.

And I get you can go into third person mode to see what you're wearing in the game and previous games. But that breaks immersion too. Do you go into third person mode in real life to see what you look like?

Should be in the game, adds alot to the immersion, which is important in an RPG.

I personally would like to see this. I always find it strange to see when you look down and see nothing supporting your character.

My bad, just saw it now. I'll keep this open for now though, see if we can get a different discussion from my post.

So why are you playing a game like this then? Go back to playing call of duty.

Yeah, life is really immersive when I'm carrying my sword and shooting fireballs at a dragon.

Uh, because I love these games?

I hate 1st person shooters and haven't played one since Golden Eye on N64, and furthermore, don't see how that pertains to what this thread is about...which is immersion...and everyone's complete inability to think of nothing but. How about "entertainment"? Or how about "a way to relax after I get home from work?" Or maybe "A way to kill an hour or so before going out to dinner with some friends?"

There's a whole big wide world for you to immerse yourself in outside your front door, and it's real too.

Don't do that. It's flaming, it's thread de-railing. You all are free to discuss and disagree on any number of things, large and small, about these games. What you are not allowed to do is sink to personal attacks on another member.

Some people need to read the rules and not make obnoxious comments like that. Learn to debate, or find another thread that you want to participate in, ok?

If I wander back into this thread to find it all derailed and stuff, I'll lock it. :stare:

I didn't see feet in the trailer when it was in first person view and looking over the cliff. Probably wont be in. Would be nice if it was, but its never bothered me that much.

You must be the coolest kid in the forums. Rofl. Stop acting you're probably a loser yourself, no reason to deny it nobody cares. Immersion adds to the entertainment, you need to look it up.

In a lot of these threads, and there have been a lot, I've seen many references to Halo and Mirror's Edge. Halo has one type of armour, in different colours, haven't played Mirror's Edge, but from what have seen she has these trousers, and these shoes, and that is it.
In Elder Scrolls, you need to program a leg view for each combination of greaves, trousers, shoes and boots, and do different ones for robes and skirts, and then you need bare legs for Dunmer, Redguard etc., and I bet someone would still complain that their Bosmer's legs looked too long, 1st person view painted toenails mod, anyone?
It could be done, but would require a lot more work than some games given as examples.

Actually you dont, you just need to make your legs not disappear when in first person. It should just be a camera inside the head, like how it was done in Crysis, what you saw in first person was what you saw in third person.

The person you quoted is right, legs would have to be different for every race and every piece of equipment.

By the looks of the trailer, it didn't seem like the feet were shown (In a dramatic 'about to step over a cliff' scene like that, they would certainly try to show the feet if it were possible). However, it's generally not that hard to implement these kinds of things. There are mods for it in Morrowind, though I'm not sure how well they work. It kind of depends on if the animations for first person mode are different than they are in third person mode though.

Duh? Like they are in every other elder scrolls game armour appears differently on different races. I dont think you understand what i said, imagine you go third person, then zoom in so far that you're bascally looking inside your own head, then you look down. Thats how it is being done now, makes it much more simple and avoids mistakes.
