I know PunkBuster is not that great. But its better than the current system that only looks for edited files. And does nothing to combat the Pay to use hacks.
What "Anti-Cheat Detection System" is Crysis 2 "currently using"? I do agree on one thing .. the current system is basically useless, or either it's not updated enough. I'm curious if it's even banned anyone?
I do not know alot about "PunkBuster" .. I've played games using the PB system and have seen hacks in those games, but I have also seen PB ban players before too. The hackers got a good head start when the "demo" was released, as they did with Medal Of Honor: 2010 (which uses PB), so when it came out, it too was hacked up, but not nearly as bad as Crysis 2, a few days later I started seeing PB ban people.
I think they need to either "switch to a new system" (what I am not sure) or "overhaul this system" and make the consequences of hacking alot stricter.
Btw.. PB does work with "x64 bit operating systems" now..
Still I am not sure if they should use "PB" .. I would like to see them use something like "VAC/VAC2" (Valve Anti-Cheat). Not the entire structure it uses, but part of it. VAC does not have "false detections", but it also does not ban instantly, instead the system puts out a notification on a player, the developers then examine the reasoning for the notification to ensure it is a "hack" and not a false detection, then anywhere from days to weeks later, that player gets "PERMA BANNED" forever, no exceptions! In order to play again.. they can not simply change serial numbers or reinstall the game with a new acct/serial number and play again, if they do.. then that acct is ALSO BANNED, permanently! Usually to get back to playing again.. you've got to reformat your harddrive, then reinstall the game with a "new acct." / "new serial code". So, it may be slower, but it's more effective and more troublesome for the hackers, but it's more accurate and effective.
Yeah, I've seen hackers under the VAC system, but they do get caught and banned, it just takes awhile. That does have one positive note though, it's funny to think that "hacky boy" thinks he is getting away with hacking it up, then gets online one day to go hack some more and find his acct. BANNED, then him being the idiot he is go and get another CD key (or even funnier buy another copy of Crysis 2) and then try and play again and it gets banned too! Then finally figure out he has to reinstall Windows if he wants to play again! Hahahaha.....
