Most Bethesda games, as we know, don't have an ending. Nor did Fallout 2. Fallout 3 was 'fixed' due to the ending being unpopular, which in my more mature mid-twenties i've come to regret, as it was actually a rather fitting end to the Lone Wanderer's tale (if convoluted, due to the radition-immune companions they gave you, and even allowed to enter the final area.). Only Fallout 1 actually had an ending, and it was a rather short game, with very limited content.
However, New Vegas practically had to end, because each faction would change the game rather drastically. Sure, you could hand wave it and save nothing changes in a day, but it would still be noticable that the Legion is in all the same places, the front line is still there, and so forth.
Still, whenever I get close to the Dam I can't help but feel forboding. Summed up in: http://media.thedailytouch.com/2013/12/19.gif
I know that as I approach that final point, this Courier's story has ended, and is either reborn to begin again, or left in limbo until another Fallout game comes along.
So, for me I don't like it, but I understand it. Your thoughts?
