Do you think Skyrim lived up to the hype?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:36 am

So yeah, it has been out almost a month now, and i think it is even better than what all the hype pointed it out to be.

What do you guys think and why?

EDIT: Where's my poll? I thought i put one in :(

It lived up to my hype because I did not get overhyped about it.

Hype? No. My expectations? Yes. Just like with Oblivion mods will make the game great.

Nothing will ever live up to the hype.

It totally lived up to my expectations tho and I'm very happy with it.

Nope, but no game ever has lived up to the hype. Its still a fantastic game.
To Bethesda:Please stop listening to annoying people who really don't know what they want.Whatever you do in a game, someone is going to whine and complain.Just create a game according to your own wishes, like Morrowind and I'm sure it'll be great. This game is great too,but I'm tired of listening to people who got what they wanted and are still not satisfied.

I expected a game that would hold my attention far longer than any other game, and I got that. So yes, it lived up to mine.

No. I don't think it lived up to its hype.

My expectations may have been unreasonable in that I wanted Bethesda to make something less restricting than Oblivion. Too many problems have made me retreat to a copy of Bayonetta that I have been meaning to play.

the funny thing is, i didnt follow Skyrim closely because i thought it was going to be a dumbed down version of TES. So i had no hype whats so ever, i was expecting it to be a bad game.

I finally played it and was completely surprised at how much BETTER it was than the last two. Imagine my surprise to come on these boards and read all of these complaints! I just dont understand it.

Its not that i love dumbed down, simplified games either. Quite the opposite. I think that im just a rational thinker when it comes to expectations, unlike alot of people here.

also, i dont understand how all of the "intelligent hardcoe RPGers" fail to see the complexity in the new leveling system. They dont understand the concept of genius in simplicity. The idea is beyond them. They see less numbers and think less choices.

No it did not live up to my expectations for a TES game.

Like I said in another post, this game would have been great if it had *nothing* to do with TES. As far as TES game goes, Skyrim is lacking...A LOT.

NO. Skyrim was hyped but it hasn't came close to the hype, just like Oblivion didn't.

For me it did. I was excited mostly about:

Dragons
The fact it takes place in Skyrim
Combat System
More Intense Spells
Less repetitive dungeons

Delivered on all of it, fixed everything I didn't like in oblivion. The only two things I don't like about the entire game is that there is no acrobatics (rolling is with sneak now idk if its annoying to try to use in combat yet) which means no attacking while jumping, and the fact that you have to play in 3rd person in werewolf form. Other than that I think its perfect

I think the game regardless of it missing some things Bethesda promised us, is still great and is my favorite so far with Morrowind a close second for The Elder Scrolls series.

Nope, didn't meet the hype, game is shelved now.
However, if you only ever bought as much as 1 game before Skyrim, you know NOT to base a buying decision on pre-release marketing. Neither did i.
What did it for me was the shallowness....you walk into this beautiful lake that is Skyrim, ready for a great swim...and the water never rose above your ankles.
Also, the only radiant thing i ever encountered was the godforsaken UI.

It lived up to my hype, and was a much better game then I thought it was going to be. While I still love Oblivion the most out of any of the Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim is a really good game, much better than people on these forums make it out to be.

It has for me. Didn't play much Oblivion, as it didn't "grab" me, but Skyrim has been like crack. I can't get enough of it.

The game itself almost lived up to the hype for me, dragons definitely aren't so epic after the 30th time though, my biggest annoyance was the slightly shoddy PC port, they promised us better...

Yes, it has lived up to the hype.

However, it's not a game for young, immature easily bored adolescents. I would encourage those types to go play WoW.

Having said that, there are legitimate complaints that I feel can be fixed with updates and mods. -_-

Nope.

Lies upon lies, again. At least not as bad as Oblivion, I suppose.

Granted, I was expecting something along the lines of Oblivion, so I was pleasently surprised. So for my personal hype, it was far overachieved. But for general hype, nah.

No...they should have hyped less,,,

P.S.: But technically "hype" is "a fart that is released in full Dolby Surround through the mouth of a PR agent"?

If so...yes...they hyped too much...the whole atmosphere of the forum and the website is intoxicated by that stink!! (XD)

its pretty good, around 100 hours in, could probably easily double that with a new char and different quests.. some things look crap though.. the trees and plants you cant interact with are pretty ugly and could have been much better.. theyre allright from a distance but when you get close they look like the year 2000

If I was on console I would already have put Skyrim down. However being on PC there are already some amazing mods for Skyrim which has made my gaming that much more enjoyable.

For a good list of mods, this is the place to start! Author did a magnificent job keeping all the early highly endorsed mods on one page with links. http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11
