No, while it is a good game then they've lied about TONS of things and the game has bugs that would have been noticed if it had been tested a single time.

It's sort of a mixed bag, for me. I love playing a combat or stealthy type character, but trying to play a Mage in Skyrim just bores me to tears.

No game ever really lives up to hype, the bigger the game the more hype surrounding it. It lived up to my personal expectations, though. I wasn't expecting to actually be transported through a computer to the land of the elder scrolls.

It lived up to my hype, which wasn't too harsh.

Mainly because of Minecraft occupying me for about 3 months.

It easily lived up to the hype, and then some.

Don't let the whiners tell you otherwise! :D

i just came in to post this. I was a bit weary after Oblivion which I felt was a step down from Morrowind, but Skyrim surpassed all my expectations. It's the best game in years for me to be honest.

The game would be amazing if they would just fix it, especially for us PS3 players. Instead they are releasing patches on fixing the backwards flying dragon while they have customers who can't even play their game. I'm slightly disappointed.

I didn't start paying attention until late October so there was very little hype for me. As far as my personal expectation of a Nord homeland and in general a Bethesda RPG, it has very much lived up to my own expectations. Have a ball..and the last patch fixed my XP dual core hesitation issue so for right now, it's running awesomely.

I don't think anything could have lived up to skyrim's hype, it was an impossible goal but hype is necessary these days thanks to the school of Peter Molyneux where hype is success. Tho don't get me wrong, I wouldn't compare any Bethesda game to any of the crud that lionhead studio's releases; skyrim is in it's own right a good/great game for the vast majority.

The way I see Skyrim being hyped up is like the graphics of Arkham Asylum, with the Storyline/writing of Fallout New Vegas, the plot/story versatility of Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, an economy better then that of the best flash based trading game to have ever been created (one area flash games have been better then professional/commercial games in) and an adaptive ecosystem like never seen before... oh and dragons... we kinda got that bit tho they still seem disappointing :(.

Skyrim exceeded my expectations initially, partly because my eventual disappointment in Oblivion made me a bit skeptical. There were several disappointments in Skyrim as well, but none so severe that I would consider them flaws of any major importance, especially since the improvements easily outweigh them.

The more I play Skyrim, though, the more I start to miss little things that were irreplaceable in Morrowind and Daggerfall - some of which have only now been removed, and some that have been abscent before Skyrim. The biggest pity of all is that Skyrim competes in a category and a time that force it to be accessible and pleasing to the masses. Hence, a lot of little things that are precious yet clumsy or frustrating must be cut out. So in my opinion, even if there is something fundamentally wrong with Skyrim, it's pretty naive to say it's entirely Bethesda's fault for making such a crappy game. They do have a market to respond to.

But, to sum up, I was - and am - satisfied with the game. A few details, some gameplay features and a bunch of bugs aside, there's not much that I would've wanted to see done differently.

A side of the little (and more severe) bugs it definetly lived up my expectations and at times It almost brings tears to my eyes to see that they've fixed all the major letdowns from Oblivion. Bethesda is just master of making atmospheric game worlds with bags of interesting content in it. They just know how to make ridicilously addicting games. Oblivion feels really empty and dull after Skyrim. But will it ever surpass Morrowind? We'll see after year or two after the modding community is really on(waiting for big overhauls).

do you really think that would have even been a big part of the game, even if it was in the game all that would happen is you burn down the mill and the price of arrows goes up a few coins, its not that big of a deal

It is a great game, maybe GOTY, but it does not even come close to living up to the hype. The things Bethesda promised with this game were far greater than the final product.

It's far too early to tell. There will still be more patches and DLC/expansions. More importantly, the CK is still to come. I can say without a doubt that vanilla skyrim is more fun than vanilla oblivion, though modded oblivion is still a more complete experience. Give it time. Either way, I'm still having fun with it, and with realistic expectations of what the game would be like, I think it turned out wonderfully and has the potential to be even better in time.

Well for me it depends on what you were expecting.

I never expect anything extremely hyped to actually live up to its over-hypedness, and thus, I am never disappointed.

Having played Elder Scrolls games before, and having seen how hyped they were before, I KNEW that Skyrim would not actually be everything the devs were claiming it to be. And it's not. And I am not disappointed.

I can see how people who are just entering the TES series with Skyrim would be disappointed, because they didn't know what to expect and didn't know any better.

That being said, Skyrim is actually BETTER than I was expecting (YES, I was actually expecting it to be worse than it is), and I love it.
