do you think skyrim will be better then morrowind

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 6:14 pm

Not to be rude, but, DUH. Simply going by graphics, it is so much better. Also, I played Morrowind a bit recently and made the mistake of playing it right after playing Oblivion. I stopped after the first five minutes.

Pretty much this.

im glad that there are others like me... i loved OB and heard great things about MW then tried playing MW after OB and just couldnt get into it.. i tried a few times... i think i would have loved MW maybe if i played it first and then loved OB after that (or maybe not idk)

but i do think for me at least Skyrim will be better then both!

not a thing wrong with not being able to get into Morrowind, not one bit but to say Oblivion is better because of Gameplay and Graphics, things that are a given with time. is annoying.

I was never able to get into MW. The game just didn't age well visually or mechanically so trying to go back and play it I honestly wondered what all the fuss was about. It had a very nice musical score, I'll give it that.

So yes, from what we've seen so far I think Skyrim will easily be better than MW and an improvement in a lot of areas I had issues with in OB. Can't really ask for more than that.

Depends who you ask. I don't think it will be as good a game as Morrowind. It will be fun, sure. In the past 3 or 4I've played Morrowind more than Oblivion.

Idk, a lot of things are really gonna bother me. The Rune Stones or w/e they're called seem so schlocky. I just can't help but feel like everything is window candy. There's no "real" depth. Which is sad, because Bethesda is a huge company with a huge following. They could make a supremely complex game, and have it be very successful. Instead, they are making something which will certainly stand out, but which fails to push the envelope. Someone will make a better "dragon fighting game" within the next couple years, in fact, there's a couple coming out soon which might make Skyrim's dragons seem pathetic.

The jobs and weapon forging is a step in the right direction, but it's something that should have been done in Oblivion. What we needed for Skyrim was more ways to explore, and more weapons. I'm sure I sound like a broken record, but climbing, mounted combat, real time boats, spears, and throwing weapons would completely change the game. Add in large fights (10-30 NPCs) and you have a truly epic game on your hands. Then, when the next game comes out with dragons, you have all those tools at your disposal, can make dragons which need 10+ people to kill, fight water dragons out in the ocean, scale buildings to fight them in the air, etc. Of course, then there's really nothing left for the series to do.

Yes, but a Revamped Morrowind remake on the Skyrim engine would kick Eternity's Ass.

NO. Morrowind was the last of TES RPG's unfortunatly.

Oblivion was just an average open world game that allowed you to think you could Role Play until you actually tried. Skryim won't even be that, it will be just an average open world game with the rest of the Role Playing attributes removed for "Mainstreaming".

If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it and I hope I'm wrong. Unfortunately, from what I've seen so far I won't be.

seeing as we know very little about Skyrim its not possible to say. Also, this question is all opinion so it cannot be "officially better than Morrowind". Obviously Skyrim will be graphically better (but Morrowind will be graphically better for the year it is released in, its Graphics were much more state of the art, Skyrim's really don't look impressive in the modern age of gaming, I think that it is mostly becasue consoles are lowering the bar for what they can do). As for everything else we will have to wait and see.

Judging from the info so far, I don't think it will. Not overall. It just seems to evolve to a wrong direction gameplay- and mechanicswise. It'll likely be somewhat better than Oblivion, though. That shouldn't be hard to achieve, but how much, remains to be seen.

But does the game recognize your char as en Evil Nord warrior? how come every other Nord isnt an Evil Nord Warrior? does it matter if hes and evil Nord warrior if he can get two shotted by a Rat? If you don't care about your Nord Warriors stats in a game that determine how well he can be an evil Nord Warrior IN THE GAME since you thinking he is an all powerful badass doesnt make him one, why do you care to designate him as a Evil nord warrior? because you think he is? and this can't be done without playing Skyrim why exactly.

Because I love the TES universe...

simple enough.

I could live with Morrowind's graphics easily. For me it's the action ... the visceral excitement of the combat, running, jumping, trying to escape when you get in over your head ... these things are important and Morrowind just didn't make the grade in this area.

Morrowind was a great place to explore.

Cyrodiil was a great place to adventure.

Skyim, I hope, will be both.

honestly morrowind (to me atleast) is much better game if you consider the story, of course skyrim will have great graphics and gameplay but so would morrowind if it was made today so overall morrowind is better, though i can't wait for skyrim either :D

Morrowind is better in some ways. There were more quests and more factions. I also found the dungeons to be a bit more unique than Oblivion's. The Bloodmoon expansion's werewolf was amazing. Morrowind overall was a deeper game than Oblivion. I'm not sure yet how it will compare to Skyrim.

But, I hope that Skyrim has at least 8 - 10 joinable factions, most don't have to be as deep. There should be the option in a couple of factions to own your own estate, complete with your own servants and estate guards, and its own means of production. It is said that dungeons will be more unique in Skyrim than Oblivion. Still hopin' for the ability to become a werewolf.

I understand though that more is not always better. 20 factions may have been a little too many, but I feel the 4 joinable factions in Oblivion were too few and too generic. What Oblivion needed were a couple of political factions, and the possibility to join the Imperial Legion. I tried to roleplay like I was in the Imperial Legion once, but there were Imperial Legion buildings in the Imperial City you couldn't enter, making roleplaying this career on 360 difficult.

Honestly, can you name one other Western RPG developer that comes even close to competing with Bethesda's depth of lore and open-ended worlds? That's the issue. Until we get something like a genuinely open-ended Witcher 3, there's virtually no competition. They don't have to push the envelope, because the only people who'd expect better of them are persons such as you and myself with our ridiculously high expectations. :bonk:

Nothing can beat the almighty, the flawless messiah, the Kwisatz Haderach of gaming, Morrowind!

:frog: that about sums it up, methinks.

But seriously I have a very high hope for Skyrim, to at least stand beside the great almighty.

I know that the character leveling is better, and environment, atmosphere, and cultural distinction between different regions has shown some real promise.

I'm not so sure about the story and richness of lore in different aspects of the game, but if it can beat Morrowind, then only remains one little thing.

If only BGS decides that the previous children have grown up and now they can make more mature games, and let us a bit of our minds, and revert to the more mature approach to quests, and story, then we would have a winner all around.

As for the combat stile, it all depends on expectations, and IMHO Morrowind's combat style was more RPG based and I liked it more than Oblivion's, but as for Skyrim, I have to wait and see.

I agree with that. They truly have no Open-ended competition, at least as of yet. And they have been doing enough of a good job to keep other companies from trying too. Typicly competition arises when they see a flaw and want to improve on it. eg: MySpace -> Facebook -> Google+

or people want a piece of the pie. Which as of yet, isn't a huge pie. When a game such as Skyrim can be 2ed most anticipated and number 10 (CoD: MW3) will make more money. That is why there are like 1,000 shooter games getting released.

(the numbers of anticipation are from Gameinformer magazine, the article on best of E3)

I'm not sure if we played the same game. There's a vast different between the dice rolls of Daggerfall and Morrowind that's been documented several times over.

I'm not burning Morrowind, however I won't hide my distaste as it's failings and those of every other game.

Everything has it's strengths and weaknesses. My above post goes over Morrowind's in minor detail.

There being more and more profound die rolls does not mean morrowind was not handled mostly through them. To hit die roll, success in casting a spell die roll, lock pick die roll etc. I prefer this to non-die roll systems because then it is the ability of the character I am playing determining success not me. For me in a RPG the only thing the player should be deciding are the actions of the character the success of those actions should be entirely up to the character. Morrowind wasn't perfect in this regard but the character/die rolls handled most actions.

Morrowind will be infinitely superior in terms of originality and weapon/armour variation. I mean seriously, armour made out of an insect shell?!? How many other games do that, apart form baldur's gate ant lion armour?
